4 Installation and commissioning
1. Whileunpacking,checktheelectrodeformechan-
ical damage. Please report any damage immedi-
atelytoyourMETTLERTOLEDOsupplier.
2. Removetheprotectivecapandrinsetheelectrode

3.9M.
Afterrinsing,theelectrodeshouldonlybelightly
dabbed.AnyrubbingofthepHorthesodium-sen-
sitive glass can increase the response time as a
result of electrostatic charge.
3. Check the space behind the pH and the sodium
sensitive glass for air bubbles and remove any
air bubbles by shaking the electrode slightly in a
vertical direction.
4. Place the electrode into the housing as described
in the instructions for the housing.
5. ConnecttheelectrodeandthepHtransmitterwith
the corresponding cable (AK9). Observe the con-
nections scheme that accompanies the cable or
the transmitter.
6. ISM
®
sensors such as InPro 485X i enable Plug
and Measure and expanded diagnostics. For in-
stallation, commissioning and operation of the
ISM system please refer to instructions for the
transmitter,moduleandcable.
5 Operation: Calibration of the electrode and
pH transmitter
Before a calibration, immerse the electrode for
10 minutes in a Buffer pH=7.00/Na
+
3.9M or
BufferpH=4.01/Na

connectedtothetransmitter.A2-pointcalibrationis
recommended,e.g.BufferpH=7.00/Na
+
3.9M and
BufferpH=4.01/Na

3.9M buffer solutions.
For further details please consult the operating
instructions for the pH transmitter.

6 Maintenance
1. After each working cycle, the sensitive part can
be cleaned with a soft toothbrush and a diluted
HCl-solution (0.1 and 1 mol/L), and then rinsed
with20%NaClsolution.

3. If an electrode is inadvertently stored in a dry con-
ditionforseveraldays,themembranemustbeim-
mersedinBufferpH=4.01/Na
+
3.9M for at least
6 hours.
4. Theplug-inheadshouldoccasionallybechecked
forpossibletracesofmoisture.Ifnecessary,clean
itthoroughlywithdeionizedwateroralcoholand
then dry it off carefully.
7 Removal of dirt and residue
Withasofttoothbrushandwateranydirt/residuecan
easilyberemovedfromtheelectrode.Mildwashing
agents can also be used.
Warning! Solutions containing hydrouorides dam-
age the pH sensitive part of the electrode.
8 Disposal
It is the users responsibility to dispose of the sensor
inapropermanner.Thesensorcancontainelectronic
components that require disposal such that no per-
sons or the environment are endangered.
9 Guarantee
Onmanufacturingdefects,12monthsafterdelivery.
10 Storage conditions
We recommend that the electrodes are stored at room
temperature. Keep the electrode tip in the supplied cap
withBufferpH=4.01/Na
+
3.9M.
