INTRODUCTION

Thank you for choosing this digital receiver. A strict compliance with the instructions contained

in the documentation enclosed with this device will allow you to enjoy the numerous advantages

of the satellite TV and radio reception (DVB standard) under the best conditions. We advise you

to follow the directions and tips for the use of your analog receiver carefully, above all before

setting it at work. This receiver perfectly complies with the international DVB (Digital Video

Broadcasting) standard and includes one or more access control systems. It is compatible with

TV sets and VCRs equipped with a standard TV Scart socket (Scart).

RECOMMENDATIONS

The package of the receiver includes cardboard parts and plastic elements which may be

reused and recycled for a better environmental protection.

Storage

If you do not wish to use this device immediately after purchasing, it may be stored in

its original package, keeping out of moisture, water and at a temperature from -6°C to

+50°C. Before use, wait for the device to be back to ambient temperature.

Power supply

This device is designed to operate with AC mains power supply included between 90

and 240 V, with frequency included between 50 and 60 Hz. Its maximum consumption

is 8 or 18 W (depending on the model). The device is provided with a mains block with

a 2-pole outlet. For user’s safety, we recommend not to touch the device out of the

standard conditions of use (e.g. in case of moisture). In case of long absence or lightning

storms, always disconnect the receiver from the mains.

Installation of the satellite antenna

Even if it is not supplied together with the receiver, it is advisable to read the

installation and assembly manual of your satellite antenna. Apply to an aerial fitter for

this purpose.

Batteries for the remote control

The remote control of the receiver is equipped with two slim alkaline batteries LR03-

AAA type. They should only be replaced with batteries of equivalent type. Insert the

batteries carefully in the suitable compartment without forcing, paying attention to the

proper polarity (+ and -) inside the remote control. We remind you that alkaline

batteries must not be thrown into the fire. It is advisable to keep or have them recycled for

environment protection.

Placing the receiver

The receiver is provided with ventilation openings (lower and upper). Such openings

must not be obstructed, even partially, in order to ensure proper ventilation of the

receiver, as this affects the life and operatio of the receiver (internal temperature must

be low and steady). This device is designed for operation at a standard ambient

temperature of 0°C to 40°C. Any installation in isolated rooms subject to temperature or

humidity change (garages, lofts, cellars, closets, dry columns) may cause the device to

overheat or wear early, which may result in failures which are not covered by warranty. Put the

receiver in a dry place protected against dust. Outdoor operation is not allowed.

NOTICES

Cleaning the digital receiver

To clean the receiver, use only a dry cloth or wipe it with a cloth slightly wet with

distilled water. Do not use detergents. Before cleaning, always switch off and unplug

the mains block on one side and the reception lead via satellite//via cable/via ether on

the other side.

We remind you that the recording of programmes, images, sounds, videograms, trnasmissions,

software, transmitted via ether, via satellite or via cable, either through a single antenna or a

multicoupler, as well as the retransmission or trade exploitation of such products out of the

family environment may infringe the copyright laws.

FOR YOUR SAFETY

Never open the device. It contains no parts which may be repaired by the user. Opening,

changing the circuits or connecting non-conforming equipment will void the warranty. Have the

device repaired or serviced at the point of sale where it was purchased, if still under warranty, or

by skilled personnel, if the device is no longer under warranty. To minimize the risks of fire,

electrocution or damages caused to other devices or to people, do not expose this device to

moisture, weather, dust, sand, radio radiation, sun, cold or high temperature (for more details

read the technical specifications).

NOTICE CONCERNING THE ASSOCIATED SATELLITE ANTENNA (SATELLITE MODEL)

Your receiver accepts a high number of configurations and was conceived so as to simplify

setting at work, even in case of a satellite antenna with double reception (e.g. Eutelsat 13°E +

Astra). For this purpose, this receiver is provided with a DiSEqC™ (Level 1.1) switch which

simplifies the alternate reception of satellites and helps piloting the powered positioner of

DiSEqC™ 1.2 type, in order to receive a large number of satellites with a single dish. In addition

the use of any universal LNB reception head(s) is recommended (OL: 9.750 and 10.600 MHz).

An “installation kit” is marketed at some points of sale for installation of the antenna and/or an

additional satellite receiver (not supplied). This includes the coaxial cable, the tools and various

connection devices.

RESTRICTIONS ON ACCESS TO SOME PROGRAMMES

Access to some programmes is strictly reserved to an adult public (over eighteen). To prevent

access to these channels, they may be locked via a parental lock. Moreover, some access

controls allow you to state a moral level, which is protected by a secret code. In compliance with

the French legislation, this secret code, which may be customized, must not be made available

to people under eighteen. We wish therefore to draw the attention of adults on such measure.

The manufacturer declines all responsibility for any improper use of such secret code by people

under eighteen.

IMPORTANT

SUBSCRIPTIONS

The reception of fee-paying programmes and services is bound to the use of an access control

card.

IMPORTANT

The DTVA is easy to install and

configure. The first two sections show

how to connect it to the extant system

and how to configure it.

The next section is a guide for the daily

use of the remote control.

The digital TV receiver comes in three

models depending on the type of

reception:

- via satellite, for the reception through a

dish;

- via cable, for connection to a wired

network;

- via ether, for the digital reception via

ether through a classic antenna.

In case of reception via satellite or via

ether, we recommend you to have the

system (antenna or dish, harness)

checked by a skilled technician, who will

advise the user about any changes to

be made.

The package contains the following

elements:

- the DTVA (the colour changes

depending on the model) with its

connection cord;

- one mains multivoltage power

supply block;

- one remote control;

- two batteries for the remote control;

- the user manual.

This manual describes the three models

of DTVA. Only some options are specific

for certain models.

INSTALLATION OF THE

MICROPROCESSOR CARDS

(DEPENDING ON THE OPTION)

Depending on the option of your

DTVA, this may be equipped with one

or two microprocessor card readers

which allow you to receive the

encrypted programmes.

These readers are located inside the

DTVA. To have access, switch off or put

the DTVA in stand-by (red led), then

open the access cap.

Depending on the chosen option, it is

possible to install:

- a standard size card;

- a small size card (SIM);

- a SIM card and a standard size

card;

- two SIM cards.

These microprocessor cards may be

purchased from various dealers of digital

bouquets subscriptions. Make sure that

the subscription corresponds to the

chosen type of reception (via satellite,

via cable or via ether).

To receive the free programmes (called

Free-to-Air or FTA) the microprocessor

card is not needed.

Insert the SIM card in the suitable slot.

Make sure it is properly locked by the

plastic tooth. The microprocessor card

of traditional size must be simply laid on

its slot. Close the cap. Switch on the

DTVA.

CONNECTIONS OF THE DTVA

Only three connections are

necessary to set the DTVA at work.

All the connections are gathered in a

block which includes:

- a Scart socket;

- a power supply outlet;

- an input for the digital

radiofrequency (RF) signal.

CONNECTION OF THE RF SIGNAL

The connection block is equipped with

an input whose connector depends on

the type of DTVA:

- a F socket for satellite reception;

- an IEC 169-2 socket for reception

via cable or via ether.

The mains block must be only

connected after the whole installation

has been performed as indicated

below.

Connect the RF signal according to

the model

• Connection of the satellite signal

Connect the input of the device to the

satellite antenna. For this purpose, use

a coaxial cable provided with a F plug. If

the F plug has not yet been fitted on the

cable, isolate the cable as shown on the

diagram below and turn the F plug

slowly on the cable until it is locked.

When fitting the plug, pay attention that

the metal plait does not touch the core

to avoid short circuits. Screw down the F

plug on the connector properly.

• Connection of the signal via cable

Connect the signal via cable from the

wall outlet to the block through an

extension cord of suitable length.

• Connection of the signal via ether

Connect the external or internal antenna

via the supplied cable.

Insert the power supply connector into

the block.

Arrange the DTVA on or near the TV

set.

CONNECTION TO THE TV SET

Connect the block to the SCART socket

of the TV set.

At this point the DTVA is fully

connected.

Connect the mains block to a wall outlet.

The led of the DTVA lights up red (if it is

in stand-by) or green.

SETTING THE DTVA AT WORK

Insert the two batteries in the remote

control, observing the proper polarity.

Switch on the TV set. If the led of the

DTVA is red, press the * button on the

remote control. The next section

contains all the explanations concernign

the functions of the remote control.

CONFIGURATION OF THE RECEIVER

Upon the first startup, the DTVA will

guide you in the menus which are

necessary for the configuration.

Choosing the language

Choose the language you wish to use.

Setting the time zone

For the local time, indicate the difference

from the GMT (time of the prime

meridian). In continental France, select

GMT+2 in summer and GMT+1 in

winter.

Choosing the audio languages and

the subtitles (optional)

Choose your favourite languages for the

audio channels and the subtitles

(optional).

Configuration of the system

In case of reception via satellite, indicate

the composition of the system (see

section 5).

Channel search

Go to section 7 for the channel search.

Afterwards, we advise you to define the

lists of the favourite channels (see

section 8).

You will then enjoy the digital radio and

TV reception in full.

FIRST TIME INSTALLATION

Some buttons on the remote control of your receiver allow you to use the setting

and configuration menus.

ENABLING THE OPERATIONS and selections

Your DTVA receiver may be fully

piloted via the remote control.

The remote control is mainly used to:

1. Daily use

- Select the programmes.

- Select the favourite programme

lists.

- Set the volume.

- Display the information about the

current programme and the

Electronic Programme Guide.

- Enable or disable the parental lock.

2. Occasional use

- Select and arrange the favourite

programmes by lists with names for

an easy and customized access.

- Add new programmes as a result of

programming changes by the

broadcasters.

3. Configuration of the system

This configuration must be made on the

first installation of the receiver or should

the system be changed (antenna, dish,

LNB, motorization, switch, TV set).

The software of the receiver is complete.

New functions could be developed to

keep up with the technological and

operators advances. New software

versions could be made available. For a

better service, these new versions are

available on some satellites, via cable or

via ether in order to update the receiver.

DAILY USE

For an easier access to the large

number of satellite programmes

available, the receiver allows them to be

classified in a customized way through

“lists” of programmes. Section 8 is fully

devoted to the use ot these lists.

Programme selection

For the current use, the programmes are

accessed via the navigator. Whenever

you change the channel, a box appears

at the bottom of the screen which shows

the name of the channel, the name of

the current list and the number of the

channel in the list. You may change the

channel in the current list via the

buttons. You may change the list via the

buttons. The name of the selected

list is displayed in the bottom right end

of the screen. After the first installation,

two lists are available: “All channels”

and “Free channels” for the channels

without access control (FTA or “Free-to-

Air”). You may also select a channel by

entering its number via the numerical

keypad.

Programme list

Press the button to see the complete

list on the screen. To move inside this

list, use the

buttons to move up

and down from one line to another and

the

buttons to move up and down

form one page to another.

USE of the remote control

Volume setting

Use the Vol+ and Vol- buttons to set the

volume. The button allows you to

mute the sound temporarily. The

symbol is displayed on the TV screen.

Press this button again to restore the

sound.

Electronic programme guide

Press the

button to access the

electronic programme guide. Read

section 9 for more details.

Choosing the language

Some programmes are broadcast with

different sound bands simultaneously.

Press the

button to know and

select the available languages.

CONFIGURATION MENU

Press the MENU button to access the

other functions of the menu.

Using this menu is very easy. The

following sections explain in detail what

you need to know to take full advantage

of the power and versatility of your

DTVA. To navigate inside the menu use

the

buttons to increase/decrease,

to select the R.H. or L.H. side or

when the symbols are displayed on

the screen. Press the button to

confirm your selection; the next screen

page will then open. Press the

button to close the current screen page

and revert to the previous one. You may

always exit the configuration menu via

the button.

The functions about “Your TV lists”,

“Your radio lists” and “Channel

management” are explained in section

8. The “Configuration” function is

explained in sections 5 and 6. The

“Parental lock” and “Microprocessor

card” functions are explained in section

10.

LANGUAGE OF THE MENUS

The “Language” menu is always the last

in the list. It is therefore easy to select,

even if your DTVA was configured in

any language which is unknown to you.

After selecting another language, await

a few seconds to allow your DTVA to be

reinitialized for the chosen language.

SETTING YOUR DTVA RECEIVER AT

WORK

Switch on your TV set, select any

number of programme “AV” or “AUX”

(read your TV set manual).

Connect/Switch on your DTVA receiver.

This is initialized and the FALCON logo

is displayed on your TV set. If your

receiver was not previously configured

by the technician who carried out the

installation, a series of screen pages will

appear to help you in your first

configuration. If your receiver switches

to the stand-by mode after being turned

on, press the button on the remote

control.

CONFIGURATION OF THE RECEIVER

Upon the first use, the DTVA receiver

will guide you inside the menus which

are necessary for a proper configuration.

Setting the time zone

To know the local time, indicate the

difference from the GMT (time of the

prime meridian). In continental France,

select GMT+2 in summer and GMT+1 in

winter.

System configuration

The description of the system is very

simple thanks to a summary screen

page.

First of all choose your configuration via

the buttons; the typical

configurations are as follows:

- Standard LNB: corresponds to one

dish with one LNB; allows you to

receive one satellite.

- Dual monobloc head Tone Burst: a

single dish with dual monobloc

head to receive two close satellites,

e.g., in Europe, Astra and Hot Bird.

single dish with two-position motor,

distant satellites.

- DiSEqC Motor + standard LNB:

allows you to receive a large

number of satellites with one LNB

and a DiSEqC 1.2 compatible

motor.

Many other configurations are possible

with one or two levels of switches.

To configure each one of the system

levels you may move vertically via the

buttons from the received

satellite(s) to the DTVA.

To change the configuration of an

element, select it via the navigation

buttons, then press

To save the configuration press the

blue

button or press .

SETTING AT WORK (satellite)

The DTVA allows you to easily

control the reception quality and

helps you to point the dish towards a

satellite, even with a powered stand,

thanks to a DiSEqC 1.2 compatible

positioner.

We advise you however to have the

first adjustments made by a skilled

technician, who may avail himself of

the suitable equipment and

experience.

INFO BUTTON

Press the INFO button to check the

reception quality of any programme. A

lot of information concerning the current

programme will be displayed, such as

the reception level and the digital signal-

to-noise ratio (Eb/No).

If these data are insufficient, this may be

due to a wrong position of the dish.

Check the reception of further

programmes before changing the

settings of the dish.

CONFIGURATION / INSTALLATION /

ANTENNA LOCATION MENU

You may access this menu from the

“Configuration” menu. It may be of help

in many cases:

- Non-powered dish: first time

installation or if the dish tracking

was ruined by a strong wind.

- Powered dish: first time installation

or to add new satellites to the

receiver, this screen page displays

a graph which shows the reception

level and the digital signal-to-noise

ratio.

Reception of digital signals

You must tell the receiver on which

transponder it must take these

measures (frequency, polarization and

symbol rate). This depends on the

satellite. For example, you may choose:

Hotbird 13° E 12245 H 27500

Astra 19.2° E 12402 V 27500

You may choose among the different

operation modes via the buttons.

First of all you must position the dish.

Check the dish stand for vertical position

via a plumb-line. Adjust the elevation

according to the instructions in the

manual for the stand.

FIRST TIME INSTALLATION OF A

NON-POWERED DISH

Activate the Configuration/Installation

/Antenna Location menu, choose the

manual mode. Orientate the dish until

the maximum level is obtained for the

reception level and Eb/No signals. At

this point lock the dish stand.

ADJUSTING THE RECEPTION (satellite)

Dish rotation:

If the stand is powered, the dish may be

controlled via different buttons.

Via the buttons the dish may be

rotated to the East and the West. To

stop the rotation, press . For a finer

tuning, use the coloured buttons which

allow for quick or fine tuning. Let the

signal and Eb/No levels stabilize after

each move.

FIRST TIME INSTALLATION OF THE

POWERED DISH

If the positioner accepts the “GOTO X”

command, select the pre-positioning

mode, otherwise move to the next

section. With the help of the nomograph

supplied with the positioner, calculate

the azimuth of any of the satellites. This

depends on the latitude and the

longitude of the location. Press the INFO

button and indicate such value in 1/10 of

degree East or West. Save with . To

complete, press the button to

preposition the motorization. Afterwards,

orientate the dish manually until the

maximum level is obtained for the

reception level and Eb/No signals. At

this point lock the dish stand and move

to the section “Adding a satellite”.

POWERED DISH WITHOUT PRE-

POSITIONING

Activate the command “Go to position 0”

to position the motor to the South or

activate the command “Search with

manual stop” and set the motorization to

position “0” via the buttons (move to

the East or West). Orientate the dish to

the South. Help yourself with a

compass, also considering the magnetic

drift of the location. Lock the dish stand.

Activate the command “Go to the saved

position”. Adjust the position of the dish

via the move buttons. When the signals

reach the maximum level, save the

position via the button.

It is also possible to choose the “Search

with automatic stop” mode. After

pressing any of the buttons, the

receiver stops the motor automatically

as soon as the signal level and the

Eb/No are satisfactory.

ADDING A SATELLITE

To adjust the position of a new satellite,

add it to the Reception menu, then

adjust the position of the dish in the

Positioning menu of the antenna. As

soon as this one is in proper position,

press the

button to save the position.

Afterwards, it is possible to activate the

“Recalculate” command if the

motorization accepts such command. All

the positions of the memorized satellites

will be adjusted.

ADJUSTING THE RECEPTION (satellite)

CHANNEL SEARCH

The CHANNEL MANAGEMENT

/SATELLITE SCANNING menu allows

you to search the channels available on

the satellite(s) you receive.

Only the satellites indicated in the

configuration screen page may be used.

Three search modes are available:

- Quick (NIT)

- Extensive

- Frequency

Select the mode with the buttons.

Quick scanning (NIT)

It is the quickest search mode (less than

two minutes for a complete satellite). It

makes use of a base of information

transmitted by the satellite according to

the DVB standard (NIT: Network

Information Table) which includes most

of the services available on the satellite.

It is a simple and quick method, which

however allows you to find the services

listed by NIT only (depending on the

operator).

To change the NIT parameters, press

the blue button.

To start a quick scanning, press the

button. A screen page will display the

number of transponders (frequencies)

found, then, during the search, the

number of TV and radio programmes

found.

To save the result of the search, press

. Await a few seconds for your DTVA

to save the result of the search.

Quick NIT

Extensive scanning

The extensive scanning allows you to

search all the frequencies of a satellite

which are transmitted with a certain

symbol rate. It is possible to specify up

to no. 4 different symbol rates.

If the satellite in question has more than

4 symbol rates, activate the command

several times.

Frequency scanning

This mode allows you to specify a

special frequency, polarization and

symbol rate. Use this mode to search for

specific transponders, for example of

SCPC type, or to add a new

transponder, for example as a result of

any transponder switching from the

analogue to the digital mode.
