Safety rules

For your own safety, we strongly advise that you read and comply with the following safety

rules before using your satellite receiver.

INSTALLATION

Caution: Carefully comply with all the recommendations provided on the equipment and in

this manual.

Water and damp: Do not use nor install this equipment near water sources to prevent the

risk of electric shock and damages to persons, property or the receiver.

Ventilation: the container has slots designed to ensure equipment ventilation. The receiver

should not be operated on a bed, armchair or any other surface which might prevent good

ventilation.

Heat: Do not install the receiver near sources of heat such as radiators.

MAINTENANCE AND USE

Line power cable protection: The cable must be installed in such a way that no crushing or

damages are possible.

Overloading: Do not overload the power sockets and extensions, as this might cause fires

or electric shock.

Maintenance: Unplug the receiver from its line power socket before cleaning it.

Do not clean with liquid or spray agents. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.

No device use: During electric storms, unplug the receiver. Unplug by holding the cable by

its plug; never pull the cable itself.

Earthing: As an external antenna is connected to the receiver, protection against overvoltage

and static discharges must be ensured by providing a suitable

earthing circuit.

Servicing: Never try and repair the device yourself, always

contact skilled service staff.

Opening or disassembling the device may cause electric

shock.

Recycling: In order to minimise the amount of WEEE (waste electrical

and electronic equipment), do not dispose of this device with standard

household waste but deliver it to a special recycling centre.

General introduction

Thank you for choosing this FTA digital satellite receiver. We trust

that you will be completely satisfied with your purchase.

The purpose of this manual is to help you become familiar with

basic functions such as the RESET control, channel selection and

many other receiver functions. All these functions can be controlled

from your remote control, and some of them can also be controlled

from the front panel. This receiver is pre-tuned to the current main

satellites. However, new channels can be programmed by using

the various search features available on the device.

The ergonomic remote control has been designed to make channel

access and adjustment easier.

This receiver has been designed for user-friendly operation: it allows

channels to be searched or updated at any time.

If mistakes are made during setting and adjustment, the receiver

can be reinitialised and its default settings (factory settings) can

be restored.

Glossary

Antenna

An antenna is a device collecting electromagnetic waves in a single point.

Error Rate (Forward Error Connection) (FEC)

Data transmission error control system, usually 3/4 or 2/3.

Frequency

Number of cycles per second expressed in Hertz. Also known as transponder (TP)

Intermediate Frequency (IF)

Frequency converted through the antenna’s LNB allowing signals to be transported in the

coaxial cable all the way to the receiver.

Converter (LNB, Low Noise Block)

It converts and amplifies satellite signals. It is fixed to the satellite dish.

Program identifier (PID)

Data sent within the satellite signal allowing programs to be identified by the receiver.

These adjustments are required in case of manual or advanced channel adjustment.

Polarization

Orientation of the wave coming from the satellite (Horizontal or Vertical).

Quaternary Phase Shift Keying (QPSK)

A standard used for phase shift locking in which four different phase angles are used for

the digital signals.

Transponder (TP)

Satellite device receiving a terrestrial channel, amplifying it, converting it and modifying its

polarization before emitting it again in the direction of the Earth.

Symbol Rate

Satellite signal transmission rate expressed in Ksymb/s

Dish installation

Information on how to install a satellite dish

The supplied dish assembly instructions are contained in the dish packaging.

INSTALLATION

The dish must be facing SOUTH and there must not be any

obstacles (trees, buildings etc.) in front of it. If there are

obstacles, check that:

d > H x 1.7

The dish can be fixed to a wall, balcony etc.

Caution: The dish support must be correctly fixed

(it must be perfectly vertical).

FITTING THE COAXIAL CABLE PINS

Peel 1 cm off the coaxial cable outer sheath.

Fold the plait back on to the cable then peel off the white

plastic by 7 cm.

Make sure that the plait does not touch

the centre core.

Now screw the pin “F” on the plait.

ORIENTATION

The dish must be turned towards the satellite to be received.

There are 2 main coordinates:

• elevation: angle between the satellite and the ground, expressed in degrees;

this angle is graduated on the back of the antenna.

• azimuth (pointed by a compass): dish direction with respect to the North.

Check the attached tables (pgs 36-39) to determine the satellite co-ordinates with respect to

the department in which the antenna is installed.

Example:

HOT BIRD 13° E in Lyons (dep. 69) azimuth: 169° elevation: 36.8°

ASTRA 19.2° E in Lille (dep. 59) azimuth: 160° elev ation: 30°

1 Green "ON" LED: on when the equipment is in operation

2 Infrared receiver (receives infrared data

sent from the remote control)

3 Red "STBY" LED: on when the equipment is in stand-by.

6 Infrared connector: allows the above mentioned infrared receiver to be connected

to the equipment.

7 (12 Volt/1A) power connector: use the transformer or the cigar lighter cable to

power the equipment.

Connections

• Connect the coaxial cable to the "LNB IN" F input.

• Now plug the transformer’s connector

into the “12V – 1A" input and plug into a line socket.

• Plug the infrared extender into

the “IR” input and place it in front of the TV set

to be able to control the receiver with the

remote control.

First power-on

Connect the Receiver according to the diagram of page 12. Now press the key

on the remote control (the IR remote control extender red LED will go green to indicate that the

receiver has been operated).

Dish installation

The digital satellite receiver comes with factory settings for the satellites Hot-Bird, Astra,

Atlantic Bird 3, Turksat, Astra 2, etc. To adjust your own satellite antenna, select first of all a

channel on your required satellite.

Select a channel on your required satellite

:

Press the LIST key then select a channel with the

V+ V- keys.

Now select a channel with the

P- P+ and OK keys.

Now press the INFO key to display the signal level and

quality.

By pressing the “1” key on the numerical keypad, you can

activate the buzzer function (highly practical for satellite

pointing when you are not watching the TV screen).

Once the dish has been pointed, the signal and quality bars in the bottom part of the screen

indicate the corresponding levels (the quality level is also shown on the receiver’s display

unit).

If no level is displayed, or the level is too weak, point the dish according to the elevation data

for your selected satellite according to the place of installation specified on page 36-39.

Slightly turn the dish to the right or to the left checking your TV screen at the same time to

obtain the strongest possible signal.

To optimise pointing, tilt the dish up or down by 2 or 3 degrees (graduated scale on the

dish rear support). If the signal level is correct but the quality level is zero, another satellite has

been pointed and the orientation procedure must therefore continue.

After the best possible signal has been obtained, tighten all the nuts hard.

Press EXIT to obtain access to the channels.

It is now possible to view your selected satellite channels.

Batteries insertion:

Do not mix new and used batteries.

If you expect not to use the remote control for prolonged

periods of time, remove the batteries.

Do not dispose of spent batteries with standard household

waste. Dispose to special containers for battery recycling.

Daily use

1.Informative banner

The informative banner containing program and service details including the program name

is displayed when changing channels.

Channel name, satellite name, date and time.

Channel number.

The informative banner also shows the name and type of broadcasting (whenever possible). It

also includes icons that are displayed when there are available channel options (e.g. EPG,

Teletext etc.).

Additional information can be obtained by pressing the INFO

key on the remote control.

• High band, low band frequency

• Transponder frequency

• Symbol rate

• Polarization

• DiSEqC state

• PID

• Signal level, etc.

2. Channel changing

a. Press the number(s) of the channel(s) that you

wish to watch.

b. Press to change channel.

Press LIST for the list of channels (this menu also allows

to select, move, find the channels by name and to

compile a favourite list). Press the TV/Radio key to switch

between TV channel and radio channel lists.

Press EXIT to quit the channel list.

c. Press the M/P key to display a mosaic of channels,

use the keys V- V+ and OK to select a channel.

d. Press RECALL to return to the previously selected channel.

3. Volume adjustment

To turn the volume up or down, use the keys V+ and V-.

To temporarily mute the sound, press MUTE.

To restore sound after muting, press the MUTE key once again or press the

V+ and V- keys.

4. Current functions

By pressing the EPG key the electronic program guide, if

available, can be checked.

By pressing the PAUSE key a freeze-frame is controlled; to

cancel this function, press PAUSE once again.

Press the ZOOM (yellow) key to zoom in. Press the OK key

to switch to the channel list.

Press and to move by one channel at a time.

Press the V+ and V- keys to move by one page at a time (10 by 10).

Select from the different audio sources available for certain channels by pressing AUDIO.

5. Main menu

Obtain access to the various main menu

adjustments features by pressing MENU.

To scroll down the menu, use V-, V+ and OK.

To quit the menu, press the EXIT key.

Use the MENU key to return to the previous menu.

Channel arrangement

The receiver can be used to personalise the channel list

and the radio list. To do this, go to the “Channels” menu

and select

"List of TV channels".

The channel editor includes numerous functions, use the keys 0 to 9 (numerical keys)

And the V-, V+ and OK keys to use the various functions.

1 (Favourites) : enables to organise channels according

to pre-set channel lists (e.g. sport, cinema etc.).

2 (Move): enables to move a channel in the list.

3 (Find): enables to find a channel in the list by

entering the list name.

4 (Order) (Select) (choice): enables to select channels

(in alphabetical order, encrypted/unencrypted channels).

5 (Compilation): enables to delete one or more channels, skip, lock, edit or add a channel).

It is also possible to delete all the channels stored in the receiver memory:

Select the option

("Delete all

") in the channel menu then press OK.

You will be prompted to enter a 4 digit code (PIN code); the factory-set code is “0000".

After confirming the code, all the receiver

channels will be deleted.

Timer programming

The Timer enables to program the receiver (for example:

when you wish to record a program, the timer enables to

switch the receiver on at the required time and for the

required length of time). To use this function, go to the

(System Configuration) menu and choose (Clock and

Timer Adjustment), then select “Timer”.

It is also possible to obtain access to Timer programming

by pressing the “Timer” key on the remote control.

The receiver enables to program up to 8 timers. Then, 6 parameters must be set in order to

complete the programming.

Use the 0 – 9 keys (numerical keys) and V-, V+ and OK to make a choice.

Mode: It enables to actuate the timer and choose

its frequency (once, daily, weekly, monthly or

yearly).

Timer Mode:

there are two timer modes available on

the receiver: channel (device starting from the

required channel) and message (initial display of a

message).

Messages are available for 3 themes:

Birthday, Appointment, Wakeup.

(Channel): selection of the required satellite.

(date): timer operation date.

(Start time): timer operation time.

(duration): duration.

After completing the programming sequence, press EXIT to confirm.

Favourite Channel arrangement

The receiver allows several Favourite channel lists to

be created. To do this, press “LIST” on your remote control.

The receiver comes with 8 favourite channel lists, of which 7

are factory-set.

To save a channel to a “Fav” list, go to the required channel then press the numerical key

"1" (a little red heart will be displayed next to the channel name).

If you wish to save this channel to one of the factory-set lists, press the numerical key "6" to

choose the list type (see here above). An icon will be displayed next to the red heart to

represent the chosen theme (e.g. a football for the Sport list).

To easily find your favourite channels during normal operation, press “Fav” on the remote

control then use the V-, V+ keys to scroll down the various lists.
