Introduction
The Model 5380 Ethernet Router and the Model 5580 Token
Ring Router can be configured with 8 MB, 16 MB, or 32 MB
dynamic random access memory (DRAM) in the form of single
in-line memory modules (SIMMs) that reside on the printed
circuit board. This guide describes how to install and replace the
SIMMs on the router modules. The part numbers for the Ethernet
and token ring router SIMMs are:
8 MB SIMMs order number AD0011005
16 MB SIMMs order number AD0011006
32 MB SIMMs order number AD0011007
CAUTION:
Only qualified technicians should install
this equipment.
Place all printed circuit boards on an antistatic mat
until you are ready to install them. If you do not have
an antistatic mat, wear a discharge leash to free
yourself of static before touching any of the printed
circuit boards or free yourself of static by touching a
grounded metal object before handling a printed circuit
board.

3. Press down on the SIMM gently to seat it firmly in the
socket, bringing the SIMM to its locked position.
You may hear a “click” as the spring latches engage the ends
of the SIMM.
CAUTION:
You may feel a slight resistance as the
SIMM locks into position. If the SIMM does not lock,
do not force it. It is very easy to damage the SIMM
socket. Remove the SIMM, reinsert it, wiggle it gently
as you press it into the socket.
