NOTE:
BIDI modules use different central wavelengths in transmit and receive directions to implement
bidirectional transmission of optical signals over the same fiber.
BIDI modules must be used in pairs. For example, if an SFP-GE-LX-SM1310-BIDI is used at one
end, you must use an SFP-GE-LX-SM1490-BIDI at the other end.

Table 6 LED description
LED Status Description
10/100/1000Base-T
/SFP port LED
(LINK and ACT)
LINK LED: On
ACT LED: Flashing
A link is present on the port and the port is sending or
receiving data.
LINK LED: On
ACT LED: Off
A link is present on the port.
LINK LED: Off
ACT LED: Off
No link is present on the port.
Power module
status LED (PWR)
Green All the power modules in position are operating correctly.
Red
A power module is not outputting power. The reason
might be power module failure, power switch turned off,
power cord connection fault, or mains power failure.
Off
No power modules are installed in the chassis.
No power modules in position are outputting power.
The reason might be power modules failure, power
switches turned off, power cords connection fault,
or mains power failure.
Fan tray status LED
(FAN)
Green
The fan tray is operating correctly.
Red
The fan tray is faulty or is not in position.
Off
The device is not powered up.
Module status LED
Flashing green
The module is operating correctly.
Fast flashing green (4 Hz)
The module is uploading software. If the LED
remains in this state, the module software does not
match the device software.
Steady red
The module is starting up or is faulty.
Flashing red
The module temperature is higher than the upper
warning threshold or lower than the lower warning
threshold.
Off
The module is not in position.
Active/standby
state LED
(ACTIVE)
On
The MPU is operating in active state.
Off
The MPU is operating in standby state.
The MPU is faulty. To determine whether the MPU
is faulty, observe also the module status LEDs.
4 Installing and removing the MPU
CAUTION:
Wear a reliably-grounded ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves when you install or remove the MPU.
Do not touch the components on the PCB.

v
4.1
Installing the MPU
1. Face the front panel of the device. Remove the filler panel from the target slot.
This example uses slot 0 on the device.
2. Place the MPU horizontally on a workbench with the PCB facing up. Pull outward the ejector
levers on the MPU.
3. Gently push the MPU into the slot along the guide rails.
4. Push the ejector levers inward until the MPU is in close contact with the backplane.
5. Use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten the captive screws on the MPU.
Figure 2 Installing the MPU
4.2
Removing the MPU
1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the captive screws on the MPU until all pressure is
released.
2. Simultaneously pull the ejector levers at both sides of the MPU outward to separate the MPU
from the backplane, and pull the MPU slowly out of the chassis along the guide rails.
3. Place the MPU on an anti-static workbench with the PCB facing up, or put it in an anti-static
bag.
4. If you are not to install a new MPU, install a filler panel in the slot to prevent dust and ensure
good ventilation in the device.
5 Software upgrade
For information about upgrading the MPU, see the release notes.
