the TCP/IP network.
The system consists of:
1. ACTentry V-IP Door Panel
:
Call button, colour video camera, audio unit.
ACT 1030 panel mount proximity reader (not supplied) may also be added.

2.2 Installing ACTentry V-IP door panel
The ACTentry V-IP door panel is available in Flush-mount or Surface-Mount
versions.
1. Flush-mount
Back Box
The flush-mount version comprises of two parts:
1. Flush mount back box
2. Flush mount plate
Page 4 Issue 3
ACTentry V-IP Operating and Installation Manual
The flush mount back box (shown above) should be sunk into the
mounting surface. Ensure to mount it at a height where the camera lens
will match eye level.
The flush-mount back box can be fixed to the wall using the screws
provided by the side flaps or the back surface.
Next the flush mount plate (below) should be attached to the back box
using four of the security screws provided.
Flush Plate Front Panel
Finally the door front panel is fixed to the flush mount assembly using 6
security screws provided.

2.3 Installing the ACTentry V-IP Unit
Please follow the guidelines below when installing the ACTentry V-IP unit:
1. The ACTentry V-IP Unit should be mounted in a secure area. There
should be an Ethernet network connection point in close proximity to the
unit.
2. The ACTentry V-IP Unit is to be installed no more than 100 metres from
the door panel.
3. A 12Volt DC, 1 Amp power supply is to be used to power the ACTentry V-
IP Unit and the ACTentry V-IP door panel audio and video modules.
4. The ACTentry V-IP door panel and ACTentry V-IP Unit are to be wired
together according to the wiring diagram at the back of the manual.
Door Inputs
There are two inputs on the ACTentry V-IP unit:
Request to exit (RTE) button will release the door.
Door Contact (DC) input monitors the door state (open or closed).
Alarm Relay
The ACTentry V-IP unit also comes with a built in alarm relay. The alarm relay
switches while the following conditions are in place:
1. Tamper open i.e. lid of ACTentry V-IP box open.
2. Door Contact input open i.e. door forced open.
Alarm relay can only be reset when both the Door Contact input and tamper are
closed.
2.4 ACTentry V-IP connection to the network
Connection to the Ethernet network is made at terminal CN401 on the
ACTentry V-IP PCB, with CAT 5 cable.
The ACTentry V-IP unit supports DHCP. It automatically will be assigned
an IP address from the DHCP server once connected to the network. (A
fixed IP address may also be assigned, see section 5.0).
The LED’s on the PCB indicate the status of the connection to the
network.
1. When both LEDs flash momentarily every couple of seconds, the
unit is powered but not connected to the network.
2. When the green LINK LED is turned on, the ACTentry V-IP is
connected to the network.
3. The red TX/RX LED indicates data transmission between the
network and the device.

2.5 ACT handset and PC speaker connection
1. The ACT Handset and PC speakers should be connected according to the
diagram above.
2. The PC speakers should be powered and switched on.
3. The PC speakers jack plug (green) should be plugged into the ACT
handset jack socket (green).
4. The ACT handset microphone jack plug (pink/purple) into the PC
soundcard Microphone socket usually symbolised by the following…

5. The ACT handset speaker jack plug (green) should be plugged into the
PC soundcard Lineout or headset jack socket (green). These are usually
symbolised by the following:
Line Out Headset

2.6 ACT handset mounting
A handset holder is provided with the ACT handset. This should be mounted in a
location that is both easily accessible for the user but not obstructive for the user
(as shown below).
Before attaching the holder, clean the mounting area with soap and water, (do
NOT use any solvent) and let the area dry. Remove the foil from the adhesive
tape and press the holder firmly against the mounting surface. Wait a few hours
before hanging up the handset for maximum adhesion.
A cable clamp is also provided for cable management.
It is also possible to simply place the handset on the desk, without using the
mounting holder. If the phone and cord are not impeded, the handset and its
switch will function properly.
2.7 ACTpro-X 1030 Panel-Mount reader installation
ACTentry V-IP may be used in conjunction with an ACTpro access control
system. Cardholders present their proximity cards to the panel mount reader to
gain access. Visitors use the call button on the door panel.
Please see the ACTpro-X 1030 panel mount installation diagram at end of this
manual.
Page 9 Issue 3

2.8 ACTentry V-IP software installation
The V-IP unit needs to be powered up and connected to the network before
proceeding with the installation.
ACTentry V-IP software is designed to operate on a PC connected to a TCP/IP
network.
The ACTentry V-IP software should be installed on any PC where the user is
expected to answer calls from the door and allow access to the building
To install ACTentry V-IP, insert the CD into your computers CD drive. If Autoplay
is enabled, the setup application will load automatically. To load setup manually,
select the CD drive from Explorer and double click the SETUP.EXE file.
2.9 ACTentry V-IP software configuration
Initially the software will need to be run and configured. This can be done by
clicking on the desktop icon.
The following window should appear. Click Connect button on the top-left.
Page 10 Issue 3
ACTentry V-IP Operating and Installation Manual
A list of available V-IP units will be displayed. Choose the one to be connected to
and press Connect.
An icon representing the V-IP unit will appear at the bottom of the screen. Click
on the icon to get live audio and video from the unit.
Live video will be displayed on the screen. Click on the icon again to disconnect.

2.10 Configure Settings
Click the button on the right hand side to configure the settings for the V-IP unit.
Click on Settings to view the settings dialog.
Time Delays
Door Open: This option specifies the length of time the Door Lock remains open
before is closes and locks the door again. This should be set to a value that
allows for all expected scenarios. By default it is set to 5 seconds. Use the up
and down buttons to change.
Page 12 Issue 3
ACTentry V-IP Operating and Installation Manual
Call Duration: This timer specifies the length of time a PC user who has
answered a call can view the live video and may grant or deny access. After the
PC Waiting time, the live stream times out and the application notifies all other
users on the network that there is a call at the door. By default it is set to 15
seconds. Use the up and down buttons to change.
Pop-Up delay: This timer specifies how long before the PC user is notified that
there is a visitor at the door. By default, this is set to 0, so all PC users are
notified immediately. Other PC users could have this set to, say, 20 seconds. If
the main PC user has not answered the call within 20 seconds, it will pop-up on
the other PCs.
Bandwidth
This menu selects the amount of network bandwidth the video stream will use.
The network bandwidth assigned dictates the video quality displayed. The video
bandwidth should be set to 1024Kb/s providing that bandwidth is available. The
system administrator should be consulted to verify the available network
bandwidth.
Initialisation Settings
Restore last connection on start:
With this option set, the application will automatically connect to the last
ACTentry V-IP units that it was connected to when the PC was shutdown. This
should be set.
Run automatically on system start-up:
With this option set the application is run every time the PC is started-up. This
should be set.

Audio Feedback is heard at user PC when connected to live video
Lift the ACT Handset and listen. Go to the Audio Settings and decrease the
microphone sensitivity and speaker volumes.
If the feedback still persists, untick the Boost option.
The feedback should now be gone.
Now increase all the volume settings for the speaker and microphone in small
adjustments until satisfactory volume levels are received in both, making sure no
feedback occurs.
If feedback persists check the wiring between the ACTentry V-IP unit and the
ACTentry V-IP door panel. Audio Out and MIC In should be wired to T and R
respectively of the Audio unit panel on a twisted pair.
