Theisdesignedtobewall-mountedinaconvenientindoorlocation.
The,containingthespeechunit,isavailablewitheitherasurfaceorflush-mountingback
box.Normallythiswouldbemountedonanoutsidewallnearthefrontdoor,andifpossibleinasheltered
location.
Theisdesignedforuseonaninwardopeningdoorfittedwithasurface
night-latchtypelock.Thisshouldbeinstalledwithasmallamountofplayonthedoorasoperationwillbe
impairediftootight.
Thisisusedinconjunctionwithatime-clocktoallowtradesmenaccess
duringrestrictedhours.
Foroptimumspeechclarit y,itisstronglyrecommendedthatthissystemisinstalled
usingtwisted-pairtelephonecable(egtypeCW1308).UseoneofthepairsfortheR&Oconnections
betweenthespeechunitandthetelephone.
Connectallitemsbyfollowingthediagramoverleaf.Itisstronglyrecommendedthatasingle
telephonebeconnectedatatimeandfullytestedbeforeproceedingtothenext.
Thespeechunithastwocontrolsattherearforadjustmentofspeechlevels:
VolumeA:SpeechlevelattheEntrancePanel
VolumeB:SpeechlevelattheTelephone
Iffeedbackisexperienced(ahowlorwhistle)turnbothcontr olsto'off'andthenslowlyadjusteachupinturn
untilasatisfactorylevelofspeechisattained.
Nospeech/insufficientspeech:InitiallyestablishcorrectoperationoftheSpeechUnitby
disconnectingalltelephonesandre-connectingasingletelephonewithashortlengthofcable(ROTonly);
Reconnectthetelephonesoneatatimeuntilthefaultre-appears.Note:speechwillbeimpairedifoneor
moretelephonesareleftoffthehook.

electricalcupboard,closetoa240VACelectricalsupplyandlocatednofurtherthan50
metresfromtheentrancepanel.Itmustbewall-mountedontoplasterboard,woodora
similarnon-conductivematerial.
Connectionstothe240VACmainssupplymustbecarriedoutbyaqualifiedelectricianor
similarcompetentperson,andmadeinaccordancewithacceptedsafetypractices.Atwo-
poleswitch(asprovidedbyaConsumerUnitorSwitch-Fuse)mustbeincludedtoisolate
bothLiveandNeutralduringInstallationorMaintenance.T hetransformerisprotectedby
fuses;alwaysreplacethesewiththecorrecttypeandrating.
