1 Functional description of the unit
The CAIRfricostar CAU is mainly designed for private swimming pools and can be
delivered in 4 sizes. The unit operates to dehumidify and heat air in swimming pools in
a recirculating-air mode.
The unit is supplied with a standard electric controls comprising a remote control
sensor in the pool area for dehumidification and reset switch. Two LED-lamps indicate
operating and error messages of the unit.
For energy saving purposes, air is recirculated without being dehumidified in recircu-
lating-air mode and only reduced air flow is heated. In the second speed the unit starts
operating with normal air flow and regular dehumidification mode. At the same time the
compressor is activated and humid air is dried using the evaporator. In addition air is
heated using condenser oil. At this point install the temperature sensor in the pool
water circuit.
1.1 Operation mode with dehumidification demand
Supply air fan runs at high speed. The necessary transmission heat is supplied by the
re-heater coil. Using an optional pool water condenser a certain amount of excess
energy can be fed back into swimming pool water.
IMPORTANT
DAMAGE TO THE UNIT!
Please consider that the water flow through pool water condenser is limited
to 700 l/h. A larger water flow causes irreparable damage to the pool water
condenser.

1.2 System and controls scheme
Control and regulation
system – Consists of a separate switch box for mounting on units with all necessary compo-
nents for control functions, wired according to VDE specifications.
– Electrical connection (via plug or screw terminals) between switch box and unit
using factory prepared lines.
– Power supply for controlling the mixing valve and re-heater pump (including controls).
– Possible output for pool water pump.
– The switch box is supplied loose, including fixing material for mounting on the unit.
– All electronic control and regulation components can be easily replaced.
The switch box is supplied
with the following main
components:
– Main isolating switch for all pole downtime of the electrical unit.
– Group fuses for fan and compressor; safety fuse for pump re-heater circuit 230V,
control fuse and control voltage supply unit 24V (safety extra-low voltage or SELV);
control of supply-air fan using motor full protection device via PTC temperature
sensor and electronic motor-protection trigger device.
– Control compressor motor with thermal motor protection and interlock for safety
chain and control card, control of icing protection, ND, HD.
– Electronic control card for compressor regulation with minimum run and standstill
time as clock protection, service reset button, status messages for timer control and
light diode for faults of the refrigeration circuit.
– Hydrostatic humidity control as a remote control for mounting in the swimming pool,
with status, malfunction indicator light and operation switch; operation with protec-
tive extra-low voltage; setpoint setting 30-90% r.h.; white colour; surface mounting,
dimensions: W/H/D 145/80/30 (mm); supplied separately.
– Electronic three-point PI-controller for extract-air temperature control with setpoint
setting on the switch box including installed NTC extract-air temperature sensor.
– Output 230V for modulating 3-way valve motor in re-heater circuit.
– If necessary FläktGroup pool water temperature control for controlling pool water
pump consisting of an integrated immersion thermostat, interlocking with compres-
sor operation and output for pool water pump 230V (only control output max. 2A)
and time control for registration of actual values (only in combination with pool water
condenser).
– Output for collective error message signal (floating change-over contact).
– Control possibility of an extract air fan by others, 2-speed, 230 V/max. 150 W

3.5 Mounting remote control
Installation of the remote control within the swimming pool
enables to measure average air humidity.
Humidity setpoint in the swimming hall amounts to 40-60% r.h.
•Mount the remote control at a height of 1.5 to 1.8 m and a
minimum 1 m from away from doors, windows and radiator/
heating surfaces.
•Open the casing, mark the screw holes and use the appro-
priate fixing material to secure the casing on the wall.
•Avoid direct solar radiation, contact with cold walls
and components and direct air discharge caused by
FläktGroup CAIRfricostar unit.
•Protect the remote control against splash water!
3.6 Operating remote control
1 Operator switch with functions „I“ (ON) and „0“ (OFF);
is also used as a „Reset“ in cases of errors.

Notice!
Consider the risk of freezing of the re-heater coil in cases of extended
shutting-down periods in the swimming pool or unit decommissioning.
