The FlÃĪktGroup CAIRfricostar units are constructed using the state-of-the-art technol-
ogy and according to recognized safety regulations.
Use the unit when it is in a technically sound condition for the intended purpose observ-
ing current operation manual, taking safety aspects and potential hazards into account!
Otherwise failure to follow these instructions may result in death or injury to the user,
third persons or damage to the FlÃĪktGroup unit, connected units or other equipment!
Have all faults repaired by an authorized specialist without delay!
Consider the safety instructions provided by the manufacturers of individual compo-
nents!
2.1 Availability of the operation manual
This operation manual contains important instructions regarding safe and correct oper-
ation of the FlÃĪktGroup unit.
This operation manual applies to installation companies, operators, building techni-
cians, technical personnel or instructed persons as well as electricians.
This operation manual must be available at the location of the unit at all times. When
working on the equipment, observe all instructions and precautions in the current oper-
ation manual, in particular the chapter on safety.
2.2 Scope of the operation manual

2.3.1 Special warning and danger symbols
The following warning and instruction signs can be secured on the unit:
To connect - counter hold with a pipe wrench.
Attention: fire risk. Dust-laden filters are inflammable.
Before opening, use the main isolator to disconnect power.
Risk of injury. Wait until complete stop before opening.
Type sheet and assembly instructions attached to unit inside. Remove these docu-
ments before the unit commissioning.
Do not start up the fan against closed dampers.
Potential equalisation. To equalize potentials the unit must be connected to an exter-
nal protective conductor at the designated points on the base frame.

2.5 Safety-conscious work procedures
Observe the following instructions when carrying out installation, adjustment or repair
jobs:
When working within range of mains voltage:
For all kinds of work:
Jobs on the unit can only be carried out if
– all poles for the power supply are disconnected
– the unit is secured to prevent inadvertent energising (also refer to "Electrical haz-
ard")
– all moving components - in particular - fan impeller, motor, rotary heat exchanger,
control and shut-off dampers – have come to a standstill: wait at least 5 minutes after
deactivating the unit
– the heat exchangers have cooled down to reach ambient temperature
Upon completion of jobs on the unit ensure that
– all protective devices are operating properly – for example, the fan safety devices
(door protection grille, contact guard) are locked
– no persons are present in danger areas.
2.6 Proper use
The FlÃĪktGroup CAIRfricostar units are only designed for dehumidification, ventilat-
ing, heating and filtration of air and are generally used in privately-owned and public
swimming pools.
Proper use also includes observance of the operation manual and the inspection and
maintenance conditions stipulated by FlÃĪktGroup.
Improper use Any use other than that described above is considered improper. The manufacturer/
supplier is not liable for any damages arising from improper use. The user alone bears
the risk.
HAZARDOUS VOLTAGE!
Disconnect all electric power of the unit and ensure the power cannot be inadvert-
ently switched on, earth, short-circuit and block off all neighboring live parts. Non-
compliance can lead to death or serious injury.
PERSONAL INJURY!
An operating unit poses a risk of injury:
– Danger of impacts by opening doors arranged on the discharge side
– Danger of crushing resulting from negative pressure applied to doors on the
suction side
– Danger resulting from rotating parts such as fans etc.
EQUIPMENT DAMAGE!
If dampers are abruptly shut during unit operation, the unit can be damaged
beyond repair as a result of negative pressure or overpressure.
DANGER – SHARP CUTTING EDGES!
No matter what kind of jobs are performed on the unit, there is always a risk of
cuts by thin sheet metal and heat exchanger fins. In particular, this aspect
applies when carrying out maintenance and cleaning work on the surfaces of
heating and cooling coils.

Only indoor installation of units is allowed.
2.7 Safety devices
Depending on the unit design
– panels and doors are secured by locks/lockable handles of the switch box
– fan sections are secured by door protection grilles
– V-belt drives are secured by belt guards
2.8 Modifications and changes
You are not allowed to change, add to or modify the FlÃĪktGroup unit in any way. Tam-
pering with the FlÃĪktGroup unit, its misapplication or modifications will invalidate the
CE conformity and void warranty.
2.9 Spare parts
Only original FlÃĪktGroup spare parts are allowed, since FlÃĪktGroup is not liable if third-
party spare parts are used.
2.10 Disposal
Dispose of main and operating supply materials as well as other components and fil-
ters according to their material type in a safe and environmentally-friendly manner, also
refer to chapter „Disassembly and Disposal“ on page 70.
2.11 Selection and qualification of personnel
Ensure that every person working on the FlÃĪktGroup unit has read and understood
entire operation manual.
All jobs must only be carried out by qualified licensed staff or other individuals with
proper professional training and experience in the following areas:
– Occupational health and safety regulations
– Accident prevention regulations
– Directives and recognized codes of practice
All skilled staff must be able to assess the entrusted work and must be able to recog-
nize and avoid all associated dangers.
PERSONAL INJURY AND EQUIPMENT DAMAGE!
It is not allowed to operate the unit:
– In areas subject to explosion risk,
– in environment with conductive dust,
– in environment with strong electromagnetic fields,
– in environment with aggressive atmosphere that may attack plastics or cause
corrosion (especially in atmospheres where zinc is particularly susceptible to
corrosion) or under conditions violating the requirements of the VDI 2089.

3 Technical Description
3.1 Performance scope
FlÃĪktGroup CAIRfricostar units are used for energy-efficient air dehumidification in
swimming pools and humid rooms. Due to their modular design, units can be config-
ured individually to meet particular air-handling requirements and specifications. The
transported air can be filtered, heated, cooled and dehumidified, depending on the
application for each case. The aim is to meet the customer specifications concerning
required air volume and conditions.
FlÃĪktGroup CAIRfricostar units are used at a central point for comfort air conditioning
on commercial and industrial premises for the transportation and treatment of “normal”
air (according to VDI 2089).
A range of unit components is available for energy-saving purposes: plate-type heat
exchangers, heat pipes, liquid-coupled heat exchangers and heat pumps with a heat
recuperation function.
Units are performed in different sizes and have various capacities. Depending on the
application for each case, FlÃĪktGroup CAIRfricostar units are designed for horizontal
air flow and are arranged as double-deck and side-by-side models. Units are only
designed for indoor installation. Units for outdoor installation need have special design.
Thanks to their modular design FlÃĪktGroup CAIRfricostar units ship as complete
assemblies or sub-assemblies that can pass through the available on-site openings in
the course of installation. FlÃĪktGroup CAIRfricostar units are also suitable for the mod-
ernisation and retrofitting of existing buildings due to the number of available unit sizes
and a unit ordering option providing for delivery in small shipment units.
3.2 Modular unit configuration and operation of FlÃĪktGroup CAIRfricostar
Thanks to the modular design of the units and various applications for each case, a
customer can select a wide range of unit configurations.Refer to the following exam-
ples demonstrating the basic unit design and its operating principles.
3.2.1 CAU units
The FlÃĪktGroup CAIRfricostar CAU is designed for private swimming pools and are
available in 4 sizes. The unit's function is to dehumidify and heat air in swimming pools
in recirculating-air mode. The unit is fitted with a fully electronic control system that
automatically regulates system functions.

In recirculating-air mode without dehumidification the air is recirculated in the swim-
ming pool. The multifunction humidistat that is installed in the swimming pool switches
the unit into dehumidification mode as soon as the humidity setpoint has been
exceeded. At this point the fan is operated at nominal air-flow volume and the refriger-
ation system is activated. Dehumidification is active until the humidity setpoint is
reached. Subsequently the fan is switched back and the circuit compressor is stopped.
Using an optional pool water condenser a certain amount of excess energy produced
by the refrigeration cycle can be fed back into swimming pool water.

3.2.2 CMU units
The FlÃĪktGroup CAIRfricostar CMU is designed for private and small public swimming
pools. The series is available in 6 sizes. The unit's function is to dehumidify and heat
air in swimming pools in mixed air mode. The unit is delivered with a DDC controls
which regulates all functions of the system on a fully automated basis.

When in stand-by mode without dehumidification the air is recirculated in the swimming
pool. When the humidity setpoint has been exceeded the unit switches into dehumidi-
fication mode. At this point the supply-air fan is operated at nominal air flow and the
extract-air fan maintains the proper air movement. The refrigeration unit is activated in
order to start dehumidification. Using the bypass damper a certain part of return air is
mixed without further treatment with dehumidified air that has passed through the
refrigeration cycle. The dehumidification stage continues until the actual humidity value
lies below that of the humidity setpoint. Then the refrigeration unit is deactivated.
When in active hours swimming pool mode the fresh and exhaust air dampers are
opened, the bypass damper is closed. To start dehumidification the refrigeration unit is
activated.
Using an optional pool water condenser a certain amount of excess energy produced
by the refrigeration cycle can be fed back into swimming pool water.
3.2.3 CAM units
The FlÃĪktGroup CAIRfricostar CAM is designed for various kinds of private and public
swimming pools. This unit series can deliver air flow rate from 750 up to 45.000 mÂģ/h.
The unit's function is to dehumidify and heat air in swimming pools in mixed air mode.
Besides a refrigeration unit (heat pump) this unit type is additionally equipped with an
efficient heat recovery system. The unit is delivered with a DDC controls which regu-
lates all functions of the system on a fully automated basis.

pool. When the humidity setpoint has been exceeded the unit switches into dehumidi-
fication mode. At this point the supply-air fan is operated at nominal air flow and the
extract-air fan maintains the proper air movement. The refrigeration unit is activated in

3.2.4 CWR units
The FlÃĪktGroup CAIRfricostar CWR is designed for various kinds of private and public
swimming pools. This unit series can deliver air flow rate from 750 up to 45.000 mÂģ/h.
The unit's function is to dehumidify and heat air in swimming pools in mixed air mode.
These units are equipped with an efficient heat recovery facility. The unit is delivered
with a DDC controls which regulates all functions of the system on a fully automated
basis.

When in stand-by mode without dehumidification the air is recirculated in the swimming
pool. When the humidity setpoint has been exceeded the unit switches into dehumidi-
fication mode. For this purpose outside air is supplied continuously. The dehumidifica-
tion stage continues until the actual humidity value lies below that of the humidity
setpoint. After that continuously operating outside air/extract air dampers are closed.
In the pool mode outside air and extract air dampers are opened to ensure a pre-set
minimum rate for outside air for hygienic reasons, the opening of the mixed-air damper
is reduced accordingly. Depending on the swimming pool humidity the outside air rate
is regulated automatically.
In the event of overheated swimming pool the bypass dampers are opened to divert
the heat recovery facility.

3.3 Unit configuration and operation of CAIRfricostar Micro compact units
Thanks to the modular design of the units and various applications for each case, a
customer can select a wide range of unit configurations.
Refer to the following examples demonstrating the basic unit design and its operating
principles.
3.3.1 CAT units
The FlÃĪktGroup CAIRfricostar CAT is a dehumidifier with compact configuration
designed for private and hotel swimming pools as well as therapeutic baths. This unit
series can deliver air flow rate from 750 up to 6,500 mÂģ/h. The series is available in 5
model sizes. The unit operates to dehumidify and heat air in swimming pools in mixed
air mode and is equipped with a high-efficiency heat recovery facility and a compressor
unit to enable dehumidification. The unit is equipped with an integrated DDC control
system which regulates all functions on a fully automated basis.

When in stand-by mode without dehumidification the air is recirculated in the swimming
pool. When the humidity setpoint has been exceeded the unit switches into dehumidi-
fication mode. For this purpose the refrigeration unit is activated. Part of return air is
mixed with dehumidified air using the bypass damper. The dehumidification stage con-
tinues until the actual humidity value lies below that of the humidity setpoint. Subse-
quently the refrigeration unit stops and air is recirculated in the swimming pool, all
values are monitored.
When in active hours swimming pool mode the fresh and exhaust air dampers are
opened, the bypass damper is closed. To start dehumidification the refrigeration unit is
activated. The unit operates to deliver the pre-set hygienic minimum rate of outside air.
Depending on the swimming pool humidity the latter is regulated continuously.
In the event of overheated swimming pool the bypass damper is opened to divert the
heat recovery facility.
Using an optional pool water condenser a certain amount of excess energy produced
by the refrigeration cycle can be fed back into swimming pool water.

3.3.2 CWT units
The FlÃĪktGroup CAIRfricostar CWT is a dehumidifier with compact configuration
designed for private and hotel swimming pools as well as therapeutic baths. This unit
series can deliver air flow rate from 750 up to 6,500 mÂģ/h. The series is available in 5
model sizes. The unit's function is to dehumidify and heat air in swimming pools in
mixed air mode. These units are equipped with a highly efficient heat recovery facility.
The unit is delivered with a DDC controls which regulates all functions of the system
on a fully automated basis.

Please pay due attention to condensation limits!
The following diagrams illustrate condensation limits depending on the temperature
and relative humidity at the installation site - for series CAIRfricostar and CAIRplus SX
T and SX K.
The diagrams are based on normal air values and are calculated using a model box.
The given values are approximate figures and can not be used as a guarantee for
avoiding condensation. Depending on different casing components, deviations are
possible.

4 Shipping and Storage
4.1 Delivery
FlÃĪktGroup CAIRfricostar unit can ship as a single piece or multiple individual shipment
units. Delivery is done on transport pallets.
â€ĒWhen the unit is delivered, check that the shipment is correct according to the
despatch note, and also check for completeness.
What steps should I take in
case of shipping damage? External side of the packaging is damaged
1 Unpack the equipment in the presence of the lorry driver and document the
damage in the shipping order.
2 Inform the FlÃĪktGroup office immediately.
External side of the packaging is O.K., the contents is damaged.
1 Once you have established the extent of the damage, report the damage to the
FlÃĪktGroup office in writing.
2 Take photographs of the damaged parts.
3 Possible shipping damage must be reported no later than 4 days following the
delivery.
Processing of claims will not be possible, if the above-mentioned steps are not fulfilled.
In both cases, before installing the units - consult the FlÃĪktGroup office.
4.2 Transport
â€ĒFor shipping and rigging the FlÃĪktGroup unit use the lifting lugs or lifting points
provided by the manufacturer.
â€ĒFor safety reasons wear gloves and safety footwear when lifting or shipping the unit.
NOTICE!
Consider instructions relating to the procedures in case of shipping damage on the
unit packaging or in despatch documents!
NOTICE!
For unit shipment use the original packing only. Remove the original packaging
only before installation.
DANGER OF OVERHEAD LOADS!
Never stand beneath suspended loads, there is always a risk that the lifting gear,
tackle, ropes or slings could be damaged. Failure to follow safety precautions
could result in death or serious injury.

â€ĒBefore lifting or shipping the unit, make sure that all doors, dampers and panels are
fixed and secured.
â€ĒOnly use lifting gear with sufficient load-bearing capacity.
â€ĒNever use damaged lifting equipment.
â€ĒRopes/chains must not be knotted and/or be exposed to sharp edges.
â€ĒOnly use ropes/chains of the same length.
â€ĒMove the unit carefully without jerky movements.
â€ĒDo not set the unit down abruptly or bump it.
â€ĒDo not tilt or place on side units or modules with an integrated refrigeration system
(compressor).
4.2.1 Lifting the unit – lifting lugs on roof (provided with shipment units weighing up to 1500 kg)
â€ĒLifting lugs are designed for vertical loads only.
â€ĒDo not use lifting lugs for lateral loads (pulling of unit on si-
des).
â€ĒSuspension angle between diagonal lifting slings must be
within range of 70 - 110° as shown in Fig. 4-1.
â€ĒLifting lugs may only be used once.
â€ĒDo not use lifting lugs for permanent suspension of units.
â€ĒDo not lift any other loads together with the shipment unit.
â€ĒWith units for outdoor installation, ensure that the roof sheets
are not damaged by the lifting gear.
â€ĒThe maximum weight of the lifted shipment unit must not ex-
ceed 1,500 kg.
â€ĒUse all four lifting lugs for unit shipment.
PERSONAL INJURY!
Use only the lifting lugs provided by FlÃĪktGroup! Make sure that equipment is firmly
seated before lifting the equipment.
