sensors which measure the concentration of suspended
particlesinaliquidmediumonthebasisoftheprincipleof
backscatteredlight.ThesensorisoperatedwiththeM800
transmitterfromMETTLERTOLEDO.
2 Safety instructions

Notice:Before every start-up, the sensor must be
checkedfor:
– Damagetotheconnections,fastenings,etc.
– Leakage
– Perfectfunctioning
– Authorizationforuseinconjunctionwithotherplant
equipmentandresources.

Caution:Theberopticcableshaveacoreofhard
cladsilica(HCS)bers.Whenlayingberopticca-
bles, the bend radiusmustalways exceed at least
10cm(4").Fiberopticcablesmayneverbeshortened
independently.FittingoftheSMAplugrequiresspecial
tooling.Thetransparentplasticcaponthesensoris
toberemovedbeforeuse.Anyformationofdeposits
ofsolidparticlesonthesurfaceistobeavoided.

4 Sensor installation
Theturbiditysensorsaretobeinstalledatadistanceofat
least10cm(4")fromthewallsofthevessel,agitatororfrom
thepipewallsinordertopreventdisturbancesthroughre-
ections.Ifitisnotfeasibleinpipesofsmalldiameterthen
thesensorcanbeinstalledsloped,atanangleof15…45°
or,alternatively,inakneebend.Thepipemustalwaysbe
completelyfullofliquid.
5 Operation
Iftheturbiditymeasuringsystemiscalibratedoff-line,itis
recommendedtousetheMETTLERTOLEDOcalibrationtool,
CaliCap
®
,(orderingno.52800210)forttingonthesensor
shaft.IfaCaliCapisnotused,aminimumdistanceof10cm
(4")tothevesselwallshastobeobservedaswell.During
calibration,thesampleshouldbestirredinordertoprevent
thesedimentationofsolidparticles.Incaseofanyfailureor

malfunction,theequipmentinwhichthesensorisinstalled,
needstobeinasafecondition(depressurized,empty,rinse,
vent,etc.).
6 Maintenance: Cleaning the sensor
Dirtyorcontaminatedsensors candeliverincorrectmea-
surementvalues.Iffoulingispresumed,thesensoristobe
removedandcleaned.Suitablecleaningsolutionsaremild
detergentsorstronglydilutedacids(<0.5%byweight)such
ashydrochloricacid.
7 Disposal
Disposalistobecarriedoutbytheuserinlinewithvalid
localregulations.Theusermusteitherdeliverthesensorto
an authorized private or public collectionundertaking, or
disposeofithimselfinaccordancewiththeregulationsfor
suchitems/materials.
8 Warranty
Onmanufacturingdefects,12monthsafterdelivery.
9 Storage condition
Inspecttheinstrumentimmediatelyafterreceivingforany
transport damage.Thesensorshouldbestored in a dry,
cleanandprotectedareauntilthetimeofinstallation.Ifthe
sensorhasbeenremovedfromtheprocess,itshouldbe
thoroughlycleanedanddried.Itshouldbestoredinadry,
cleanandprotectedareauntiltimeofinstallation.
