1 Introduction
TheMETTERTOLEDOInTrac

785/787retractablehousings
areintendedforuseinconjunctionwithspeciedMETTLER
TOLEDOelectrodes/sensors,namelypHandredox(ORP)
combinationelectrodesaswellasdissolvedoxygen(DO),
conductivityorturbiditysensors.Pleasereadthroughthis
quickset-upguideandtheoperatinginstructionscarefully
beforecommissioning,inordertoensuretrouble-freeuse.
Operatingandmaintenanceshouldbecarriedoutonlyby
trainedpersonnelandstaffwhohavereadandunderstood
theoperatinginstructions.
2 Safety instructions

Notice: Before every start-up,the housingmust be
checkedfor:
–Damagetotheconnections,fastenings,etc.
– Leakage
–Perfectfunctioning
–Authorizationforuseinconjunctionwithotherplant
equipmentandresources.

Notice: The manufacturer/supplier accepts no
responsibilityforanydamagecausedbyunauthorized
attachments or forthe incorporationofspare parts

Caution: Beforethehousingisputintooperation,the
operatormusthavealreadyclariedthatuseofthe
sensor in conjunction with the other associated
equipmentandresourcesisfullyauthorized.

Caution:Adefectivehousingmayneitherbeinstalled
nor put into operation. Faulty containment or
installationoutofconformancewithregulationsand
instructionscanleadtotheescapeofmediumorto
pressuresurges(explosion),potentiallyharmfulboth
topersonsandtotheenvironment.

Caution: Thehousingmayonlybeoperatedtogether
with the specied electrodes/sensors. If an elec-
trode/sensorisbrokenitmustbereplacedimmedi-
ately.

Warning: Before dismantling the housing or
commencinganymaintenanceworkonit,ensurethat
theequipmentinwhichthehousingisinstalledisina
safecondition(depressurize,noexplosionrisk,empty,
rinse,vent,etc.).

Warning: Theelectrodeorsensormayonlyberemoved
fromamountedretractablehousingwhenthisisinthe
“service”(retracted/withdrawn)positionandtheball
valveisclosed,sinceiftheelectrode/sensorismissing
fromthehousingtherewillbepathfortheprocess
mediumtoescapetotheenvironment.

Warning: The housing may only be moved to the
“measure”positionwhenasensoristtedandtheball
valveisopen.Themaximumpermissibletemperature
andpressurespecicationsmustnotbeexceeded.The
values depend upon the design and type of the
retractable housing. The relative specications are
givenonthelabeloftheindividualhousings.

4 Installation and commissioning
1.While unpacking, check the housing for mechanical
damage.Pleaseimmediatelyreportanydamagetoyour
localMETTLERTOLEDOrepresentative.
2.Ensurethehousingisfullyretractedandinthe“service”
position.
3.Isolate the pipe/tank/vessel etc. from the housing
(depressurize,empty,rinse,purgeandvent,etc.)before
startinganyinstallationwork.
4.Fit the housing to ange/NPT thread of process
connection.
5.Attach the ushing lines (optional ushing chamber
whenapplicable).
6.Fittheelectrode/sensortothehousingandconnectthe
electrode/sensorandthetransmitterwithcorresponding
cable.
7. Loosenxingscrew<3>toreleasetheimmersiontube
<1>byhandorusingano.38spanner.
8.Opentheballvalve<2>.
9.Slidetheimmersiontubeintothemeasuringpositionas
farasnecessaryoruntilitstops.
10.Ifthehousingisnotinsertedasfarasthestop,xthe
adjustingring<4>inthedesiredposition.
11. Tightenxingscrew<3>byusingano.38spanner.

5 Operation: Inspection work
1. Visuallycheckfastenings(ringnut,ange,NPTthread)
ofthehousingattheprocessconnectionforrmsealing
andleaks.
2. Ifnecessary,checktheconditionoftheelectrode/sensor
(refer to sensor instruction manual for cleaning and
calibrationprocedures).
3. Calibrate/cleantheelectrode/sensorifnecessary(refer
tosensorandtransmitterinstructionmanuals).
6 Maintenance
1. Ensurethehousingisfullyretractedandinthe“service”
position.
2. Isolate the pipe/tank/vessel etc. from the housing
(depressurize,empty,rinse,purgeandvent,etc.).
3. Removethesensorfromthehousing.
4. Removetheretractablehousingfromthepipe/tank/vessel
etc.(ifchangingofhousingsealisneeded).
5. Changethehousingseal.
6. Calibrate/cleantheelectrode/sensorwithreferenceto
sensorandtransmitterinstructionmanuals.
7. Followtheinstallationandcommissioningprocedure.
7 Disposal
Itistheuser’sresponsibilitytodisposeofthehousingin
a professional manner and in accordance with local
regulations.
8 Warranty
Onmanufacturingdefects,12monthsafterdelivery.
9 Storage condition
We recommended following the shutdown procedure as
describedinthehousinginstructionmanual.Thecleaned
anddriedhousingshouldbestoredatroomtemperature.
