1. Introduction
The Forum IPhone 3020 is a user-friendly Voice Over IP (VoIP) telephone, which
can be connected remotely to the Forum 3000 Systems via the Internet or locally
via an internal IP network. Whether locally or remotely connected, the Forum
IPhone 3020 can be used as a fully featured key set with LED’s indicating line and
extension status and with access to the full range of functions.
- It is shipped with the following accessories:
- One Ethernet cable (straight through)
- Four Quick Reference User Guide Flemish, French, English and German
There are two possibilities for connecting the Forum IPhone 3020 to the Forum
3000 system – locally on the same LAN or remotely using a wide area network.

2. Local LAN Connection
The Forum IPhone 3020 may be connected to the Forum 3000 System on the same
Local area network.
2.1 Wiring Connections
There are six sockets on the back of the Forum IPhone 3020:
Headset DSS LAN DC Power PC Handset
Headset: This port is used to connect an optional headset
DSS: This port is used to connect to the optional DSS (Direct Station Select)
Module. This is a block of 48 keys that can be used for single touch
access to all extensions on the system.
LAN: This is an Ethernet port, which is connected to the Ethernet switch. From
here the calls are sent over the LAN to the Forum 3000 System. Power
can be supplied to the phone through this LAN port from an Ethernet
switch/hub that complies with the 802.3af ‘Power over the LAN’
standard.
DC Power: This is an alternative method to power the phone if power is not
supplied from the Ethernet switch. The DC connector of the plug top
power supply unit is connected to this socket.
PC: This Ethernet port can be connected to a PC using a straight Ethernet
cable. This facilitates a single Ethernet cable to the desk from the LAN
carrying both voice and data traffic as shown in the diagram.
Handset: The telephone handset is plugged in to this port.

2.2 Connecting to the Forum 3000 IPPBX on the LAN
Step 1 Cabling
Connect the LAN port of the phone to the connection point of the local area network using the
straight Ethernet cable supplied.
Step 2 Power
Connect the plug top power supply to the DC Power socket on the phone and to the electrical
mains.

Step 3 Getting an IP address from the LAN
The phone displays the message:
While this message is displayed, the phone obtains an IP address automatically from a DHCP
server on the LAN. DHCP is the Dynamic Host Control Protocol that is commonly used to
assign IP addresses automatically on a network. When the phone has received its IP
address it proceeds to step 4.
However if there is no DHCP server present on the LAN the phone will display the following
message:

period you may press the ‘Menus ‘ key to manually programme the IP address of the phone

-Under the menu option ‘Local IP Params’ select the option ‘DHCP client’, and disable it and
press set.
-Under the menu option ‘Change IP Address’ type in the IP address of the phone and press
set.
-Similarly set the subnet mask and the IP address of the Internet gateway.
-Press Back and Exit to get to the next step in the process.
Step 4 Auto Registration
The phone displays the message:
The phone will count down from 15 seconds to 0 before auto-registering on the Forum
30000 system. (During this period you may cancel the Auto-registration and programme
the IP address of the Forum IPPBX using the Installation wizard as explained below in step
5.)
The phone now displays the following messages in sequence:
Once the phone is registered on the Forum 3000, the screen will display the date, the day,
time and extension number as shown below.
It is now ready to make calls.

Step 5 Optional - Running the Installation Wizard instead of Auto-Registration
The phone displays the message:
Pressing the start button will begin to step through the installation wizard.
Enter the address of the Forum 3000 System
The private LAN IP address of the Forum 3000 System is entered here. This is
necessary to allow the phone to connect to the Forum 3000 System.
Press next when the IP address has been entered.
IP registration name and IP registration PIN
The Forum system administrator must allocate a unique IP registration name and IP
registration password to each IP phone connected to the system. The procedure for
this is described in section 6 of this document (Configuring the Forum system for IP
system phones). This IP registration name and IP registration password must be
entered in the Forum IPhone 3020. If you do not know them, contact the system
administrator and obtain them. When the phone registers with the Forum system,
this unique IP registration name and IP registration password are authenticated.
At the prompts, enter the IP registration name from the phone keypad. Please pay
particular attention to upper case and lower case letters. Upper and lower case
letters can be obtained by pressing the keys repeatedly

answered Yes or No to this question, the setup wizard is complete and the
Operafone IP will attempt to connect to the Forum 3000 System.
During this time the phone will display the message:

3. Remote Connection over the Internet
A remote teleworker with a broadband Internet connection can connect the Forum IPhone
3020 to the Forum 3000 System in the main office across the Internet. The remote Forum
IPhone 3020 will have the full system phone capability the same as an internal extension.
In order facilitate remote connection over the Internet, it is helpful if the telephone is first
registered on the same LAN as the Forum 3000 using the auto-registration procedure
described above. When this is done, the telephone is automatically programmed with the
public IP address of the Forum 3000 in addition to the local IP address. This facilitates the
remote registration procedure as it eliminates the need for manual programming of the
public IP address of the Forum 3000 system.
3.1 Wiring Connections
There are six connection sockets at the back of the Forum IPhone 3020 as shown
below.

complies with the 802.3af ‘Power over the LAN’ standard.

3.2 Installing and Programming Forum IPhone 3020 for Remote
Working
Step 1 Cabling

If the phone has not previously been connected to the Forum 3000 locally, it will be
necessary to program the IP address of the Forum 3000 manually. In this case, the Auto
registration will fail and the following screen will be displayed:
The phone will count down from 15 seconds to 0 before attempting again to auto-register
on the Forum 3000 system. During this period, press the cancel button and programme the
IP address of the Forum 3000 system using the Installation wizard as explained below in
step 5.
Step 5 Running the Installation Wizard
The phone displays the message:

The public IP address of the Forum 3000 System is entered here. This is necessary
to allow the phone to connect to the Forum 3000 System.
Press next when the IP address has been entered.
IP registration name and IP registration PIN

registration password to each IP phone connected to the system. The procedure for
this is described in section 6 of this document (Configuring the Forum system for IP

4. Connected and Unconnected States
4.1 Connected State
When the above steps have been completed successfully, the Forum IPhone 3020
will connect to the Forum 3000 System, and the display will indicate the date, time
and extension number. The Forum IPhone 3020 now has access to the full range of
system features and functions in the same way as any other digital extension.
4.2 Unconnected State
Once the phone is in the connected state, the IP settings are no longer accessible.
In order to check or change the IP settings it is necessary to return the phone to
the unconnected state. This can be done by pressing the Menu button and holding it
for more than 5 seconds.

5. Programming the phone with a web browser
The Forum IPhone 3020 may be programmed via a web browser interface. Open a
browser on any PC that is on the same LAN and point it to the IP address of the
Forum IPhone 3020. Authentication details are as follows:
Username: admin
Password: 1000

6. Configuring the Forum System for IP system phones
You may register up to eight local or remote IP system phones to the Forum system.
Installing an expansion license may, in some configurations, increase this.
Local phones are connected using the auto registration of the system.
In order facilitate remote connection of a phone over the Internet, it is helpful if the
telephone is first registered on the same LAN as the Forum using the auto-registration
procedure. When this is done, the telephone is automatically programmed with the public
IP address of the Forum in addition to the local IP address. This facilitates the remote auto-
registration procedure as it eliminates the need for manual programming of the public IP
address of the Forum system.
However, if it is not possible to register the remote phone to the Forum locally on the LAN,
you may still register it manually. In order to do this, it must be programmed with a
unique IP registration name and IP registration PIN for authentication purposes.
The Forum system administrator must configure these by logging into the Forum using a
browser as described in the system manual. After login the system displays the main page
shown below:

Click on the link ‘IP Phone Registration’ under ‘User Settings’ to display the following page:
This table shows the IP registration names and IP registration PINs allocated automatically
during the phone auto-registration process. Users that have been allocated will display
‘Yes’ in the allocated column.
To enable a remote IP system phone, select an unallocated IP registration name and enter
an IP registration name and IP registration PIN and press ‘Save’. The remote phone will
now be able to register using this IP registration name and IP registration PIN.
If you subsequently wish to re-allocate this registration to a different user, you may
change the allocation status from yes to no and assign a new IP registration name and IP
registration PIN.
