RMA Instruction
Introduction
This instruction describes the procedures to install your XchangeNOW® library. It includes instructions
for:
NEO SERIES 2000
NEO SERIES 4000
NEO 2000
Unpacking
Visually inspect the shipping container and notify your carrier immediately of any damage.
Unpack the unit.
Verify the contents against the packing list. If parts are missing or the equipment is
damaged, notify your representative.
Save the packing materials to use with the unit. For use to return faulted unit to Overland
Storage.

Removing Faulty Unit
NOTE:
Overland Storage recommends that this library be installed by an Overland Storage authorized
service provider. Improper installation may result in damage to the library which will void the current
warranty.
NOTE:
Do not remove the library controller card. The XchangeNOW® unit is equipped with a new library
controller card. Your current SCSI ID and library settings will have to be re-entered. To aide in
configuring the ExhangeNOW™ library to your network, record the SCSI ID and library confguration
settings prior to turning the library off. Y
1) Unload all tapes from the drives and remove both magazines.
2) Turn off the Master Power Switch on the power supply at the rear of the module. Unplug the power cord.
3) Remove the four screws that secure the Outer Skin to the library chassis, see Figure 2.
4) Carefully slide the cover toward the rear of the library until it clears the front panel and then lift it up and
away from the library chassis.
5) Remove the four rubber feet. see Figure 2.

6) Remove all connections to the library i.e., power cable, SCSI connections, and serial connections.
7) Remove any Virtual Interface Architecture options cards, such as the HVO, FCO, GEO or LPO options.

8) Remove all SCSI connections from the drives and controller card.
9) Loosen the captive retainer screws at the top center and lower left of the drive module, see Figure 4.

10) Pull straight back on the drive assembly handle to remove the drive. Some effort will be required to
overcome the initial resistance of unplugging the module from the receiver.
11) Continue to slide the drive out while fully supporting the module until the drive load handle (DLT 8000
only) has cleared the back of the library.
12) Repeat Steps 8 through 10 for each installed drive assembly.
CAUTION:
The power supply is NOT to be removed by the operator. Hazardous voltage is present in the cavity if
the power cord is not removed.

13) Remove the two mounting screws securing the power supply locking bracket, see Figure 12.
14) Push down on the latch and use the handle to pull the power supply out of the receiver.
Install The XchangeNOW Tabletop Library
1) Attach the four feet removed from the faulty unit to the XchangeNOW® unit and replace
the top cover, see
Figure 5
.

2) Install the power supply into the XchangeNOW unit, see Figure 6.

4) Install any Virtual Interface Architecture (V.I.A.) options cards, such as the HVO, FCO, GEO and LPO
options cards into PCI slots next to the library controller card, See Figure 8.
NOTE:
Overland Storage recommends that this part be installed by an Overland Storage

5) Apply power to the library, see Figure 9.
a. Connect the power cord

to the power supply receptacle.
b. Toggle the power switch

on.
c. Press anywhere on the GUI touch screen

to activate the display and turn the library module
on.

6) Using the front panel, configure the library option and SCSI option settings by re-entering the values
previously used for your network environment. The available options and default settings are found in
the NEO SERIES User & Installation Manual.
7) Package the faulty unit in the shipping container that your XchangeNOW® unit was shipped in and
return to Overland Storage, see Figure 1.

11) Push down on the latch and use the handle to pull the power supply out of the receiver.
12) Locate the Door Release Access holes in the grill area below the magazine doors, see Figure 13.
13) Release the left and right door release latches to open each magazine door, allowing access to the two
10-32 captive screws that secure the library in to the rack.

14) Remove the two 10-32 captive screws that secure the library to the front of the rack, (Located on the lower left
and lower right of the front panel inside the front doors. See Figure 14.

15) Slide the library out until the unit locks. Depress both rail stops and continue sliding the unit clear of the rack
and rails, see Figure 15.
WARNING:
Use a mechanical lift to perform the next step. Make certain, when the library is fully extended, that a
force of 20% of the racks’s weight, but not more than 57 lb. (26 Kg), applied in any direction other than
upwards, does not cause the rack to overbalance.

16) Remove each inner slide member from faulty library chassis by removing the 5 screws holding each in
place, then attach the inner slide to each side of replacement library see, Figure 16.

17) Remove the elevator assembly bay cover from the EchangeNOW® chassis and attach it to the faulty
library chassis by removing the 3 screws holding the cover in place, see Figure 17.
NOTE:
IT is important that the elevator assembly bay cover is installed to the faulty library upon
return shipment to Overland Storage. Damage to the library chassis can occur if the cover
is not in place.

Install The XchangeNOW Library
1) Install the XchangeNOW® library into the rack.
NOTE:
To avoid damage to the bearing housing and slide members, insure that the bearing housing is all
the way forward. A bearing detent lock holds the housing in place when it is all the way forward,
see
Figure 18.

a. Lift the library and visually align the inner and middle slide members.
b. Carefully insert the library’s inner slide members into the middle slide members.
c. Slide the library completely into the rack until the front panel touches it.
2) Remove the tape to open the doors for installation.
3) Remove and discard the pull-tabs used to block the latch mechanism before closing the magazine doors. Leave
the doors open and proceed to Step 5.
4) With the magazine doors open, secure the front panel to the storage cabinet using the two retaining screws. See
Figure 19. Close the doors before proceeding to Step 6.

7) Install the power supply into the XchangeNOW® unit, see Figure 22.

8) Attach all of the SCSI or fibre channel connections previously removedm prior to turning on the unit.
9) Apply power to the library, see Figure 23.

10) Replace the cartridge magazines and close the magazine doors.
11) Using the front panel, configure the library option and SCSI option settings by re-entering the values
previously used for your environment. The available options and default settings are found in the NEO SERIES
User & Installation Manual, available via the knowledge base portal at Overland Storage’s website.
12) Package the faulty unit in the shipping container that your XchangeNOW® unit was shipped in and return to
Overland Storage, see Figure 1.
NOTE:
IT is important that the elevator assembly bay cover is installed to the faulty library upon return
shipment to Overland Storage. Damage to the library chassis can occur if the cover is not in place.

ease in remembering your current network cabling configuration, along with SCSI ID and
library settings, before removing the library connections, draw out a block diagram of your
cabling set up.
