When installing the installation space must be secured
in consideration of the ventilation and service operation.
Do not block the ventilation slots at the left side and
right side panels, and vents of the fans.
Leave a space around the unit for ventilation.
Leave more than 40 cm of space in the rear of the unit
to secure the operation area.
When the unit is installed on the desk or the like, leave
at least 10 cm of space in the left and right sides.
Leaving 40 cm or more of space above the unit is
recommended for service operation.

Purpose of this manual
This manual is the service manual of HD Video Recorder HVO-500MD and HD Video Recorder HVO-550MD.
This manual is intended for use by trained system and service engineers, and describes the information required for
board-level service.
The service of this unit is basically performed by the replacement of board. Therefore, the schematic diagram, board
layout and electrical parts list are not contained.

1-4. Optional Accessories
The optional accessory of this unit is as follows:
Foot Switch FS-24
Note
FS-24 is drip-proof protection class IPx3. Therefore, FS-24 can not be used in the place that is exposed to a liquid like
an operating room. To safety, in case the product is used in the place that is exposed to a liquid like an operating room,
use the product that is compatible with IPx6 or higher.

This list does not indicate the warranty period of the parts.
The replacement time varies depending on the operation environment and the condition of the unit.

2-2. Hardware Monitor
A hardware monitor can display on the monitor the cumulative period of using the hard disc and DVD drive.
Use this hardware monitor display as a reference in performing the periodic check.

Service Overview
3-1. Precautions when Handling the Hard Disc Drive and DVD Drive
Hard Disc Drive (HDD) and DVD Drive (HVO-550MD only) are installed in this unit.
These are precision parts. Therefore, Data in the HDD, or HDD and DVD drive itself are easily damaged by the causes
such as shock, vibration, static electricity, bad conditions of temperature, humidity and dust.
When repairing this unit, read fully the following cautions, and perform the operation with extra care.
3-1-1. No Shock or Vibration
When transporting or moving;
Be sure to turn off the power.
Pack the unit using the packaging materials specified by the manufacturer.
Use a proper low-vibration cart.
Put a cushion on the cart.
Avoid rough routes, and manage the cart gently.
Tip
Cushion: Polyethylene foam (density: 10 kg/m³, surface intrinsic resistance: 10¹¹ to 10¹² Ω, thickness: 20 mm) or
equivalent.
When placing on a floor or a table;
Put the unit with the specified rubber feet on it gently.
Do not place the unit near vibrating equipment.
For the unit, HDD and DVD drive;
Do not drop the tool on the unit or do not hit the unit by tool.
Take extra care;
Do not give vibration or shock to the unit while the power is turned on, or within about 30 seconds after turning
off the power.
3-1-2. Trolley or Rack Mounting
Be careful not to give shock to the unit with HDD or DVD drive in the rack.
If other HDD or DVD drive-equipped unit is in the rack, be sure to turn off the power of the unit.
3-1-3. No Static Electricity
Keep static-producing items such as plastics away from the working area.
When you touch an HDD or DVD drive, be sure to wear a grounded earth-band to protect against static electricity.
3-1-4. Temperature, Humidity and Dust
Temperature and humidity of storage and operating condition must be kept within the correct specified range.
To prevent the adverse effects, do not use or storage in a dusty area.
3-1-5. When an Error Appears in an HDD or DVD Drive
Treat the HDD or DVD drive conform to the above cautions, even when an error appeared.

Keep the HDD or DVD drive in the condition in which the error appeared, and record the details of the error.

3-2. Removing the Disc Without Ejecting (HVO-550MD Only)
Tool: Thin screwdriver (diameter: 1.5 mm (1/16 inches) or less) or solid wire
1. Turn off the power and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
2. Insert a tool into the hole and push out the tray.
3. Draw out the tray by hand, and remove the disc.
