ALARM/ALERT MODULE
MSA2 MODULE
FUNCTION
MODULE USED TO GENERATE TWO ACOUSTIC ALARM/ALERT SIGNALS IN THE
SELECTED ZONES RESPECTING THE PRIORITY SYSTEM.
DESCRIPTION
Each alarm activates independently with an external signal (START). The duration of the
acoustic alarm/alert can be programmed in three ways:
Manual: as long as the START signal lasts
Always: Once activated, it can only be disabled with the STOP button
Temp: between 5 and 15 seconds, internally adjustable
The TEST/STOP buttons are used to test the module. They are difficult to access in order
to avoid accidental operation or manipulation.
The alarm/alert signals of the modules section 1 can respect the priority system or not. If
you configure the module to operate with priorities, the zone and priority structure will be
regarded (the alarm/alert signal attenuates the BGM). If you configure the module to work
without priorities (BGA) the signal will be mixed with the BGM and will be attenuated
together with the music in case that a message arrives (spoken message or alarm).
Internally you can select three alarm types and two acoustic alert types for each section of
the module.
In case you only hear the final part of the alarm/alert (this is caused by a higher priority signal occupying the system), the
system features a RETRIGGER option, which will retrigger the alarm/alert signal to hear it completely.

CONNECTING THE MSA2
In order to connect this module, you should follow the steps indicated on the figure of the next page:
Choose an operating mode with the jumper marked with nr.1: This module can act respecting the priority and zone system
(ALAR) or as BGA. Section two can't operate as BGA, only with priorities.
ATTENTION: You can have only one module acting as BGA. Remember that to work in this operating mode, you must
remove all zone assignment and priority jumpers.

If you decide the module to work in ALAR. mode, select now its priority level. To do that, you will have to place two
PRIORITY jumpers according to the priority you wish this module to have. (indication nr.2' and 2" of the figure on next
page). For example: To set the priority to 3, place the two jumpers at positions J108 and J111.
ATTENTION: There can only be one module with Priority 1. Remember that every module containing
PRIORITY
information must be mounted on the same chassis.
Define the zone (or zones) to which the message from section 1 (if defined as ALAR) will be sent, by means of the jumpers
marked with 3' and 3". For example: If you wish section 1 to operate in zone 3 and 5, set the jumpers J142 and J138.
Select the message type of each section (alarm or alert) with the jumper marked with nr. 4' and 4"
If you defined a section as alert, you should now select the desired alert type with the jumpers marked with nr. 5' and 5"
Alert type: one or two chimes
Time Cycle: slow (jumper set) or fast (jumper removed)
Freq: 500 Hz (jumper removed) or 1kHz (jumper set). Bass or treble alert sound.
If you defined a section as alarm, you should now select the desired alert type with the jumpers marked with nr. 6' and
6". For two tones, put the jumper in upward position, for Siren1 in downward position and no jumper for Siren2.
Select the duration of the acoustic signal with the jumpers marked with 7 and 7" always (ALW, jumper upwards) or manual
(jumper downwards)
If you wish the alarm to have a maximum duration, set this with the jumper marked with nr. 8' and 8". For timer operation
(TEMP) set the jumper upwards.

ATTENTION: Essential to place these jumpers in a position or another one. If it were not put these jumpers, the module
would not work correctly.
Select Retrigger ON (jumper removed) or ON (jumper set) with the jumpers marked with nr. 9' and 9".
If you define a section with a timer, you should set the duration of the signal with the pots marked with nr. 10' and 10"
Insert and screw the module and the chassis together in the front and back panels.
Connect the data buses (Flat 10- and 20-way cables) to the connectors marked with nr.11 in the figure on next page.
Link together the front and back panel. In this case you will have to connect following connector pair marked with nr. 12.:
J01 and TS101.
Once the complete installation of one or various chassis and the peripherals connections to ENVIRO has been carried out,
you should perform a test of both sections to ensure its correct operation.
