Use the fourth 10cm length
of lace to hold the upper
and lower shin plates together,
feeding either end through the
central pair of larger holes, from
front to back.
Pull the lace over the glued end of the
lace and into the hole below it. Dab
again with a little glue, then pull the lace
tight to hold in place. Then, begin to work
your way across the plates from left to
right, following the same lacing pattern
described in the diagram on page 187.
Thread the 15cm lace
though the second hole
from the left on the top row
of holes on the lower plate.
Dab the end with glue and
press to the metal to hold it
– do not obscure any holes.
Pull the sharpened
end into the hole
directly above it on the
upper plate, then around
to the adjacent hole
nearer the outside of the
plate and back out to the
front.

Upper shin plate
When you reach the far right side, use the
same technique you used for the other leg
plates to seal the lace. Pull the sharpened end
through the loop created by the second-last
step, then dab with glue, pull tight, and cut.
On the reverse, tie a knot in the
10cm length and dab with glue,
then trim the excess to complete
this stage.
