Chapter1.Safetyinformation

Thetopicprovidessafetyguidelinesthatyouneedtoreadbeforeyouinstalltheserverinarackcabinet.

Reviewthedocumentationthatcomeswiththerackcabinetforsafetyandcablinginformation.Beforeyou

installtheserverinarackcabinet,reviewthefollowingguidelines:

Notes:

•UsetheM6screwsthatcomewithsliderailstoinstalltheserverinarackcabinetifyouplantotransport

therackcabinettoanotherlocationwiththeserverinstalledortherackisinavibration-pronearea.

•Youcaninstallthecablemanagementarmoneithersideoftherack.Theseinstructionsareshownwith

thecablemanagementarmmountedontheleftside.Theinstallationinstructionsinthisdocumentcanbe

reversedifyouareinstallingthecablemanagementarmontheothersideoftherack.

•Twoormorepeoplearerequiredtoinstalldevices2Uorlargerinarackcabinet.

•Seetheserverdocumentationforthemaximumroomairtemperature.

•Donotblockanyairvents;usually15cm(6in.)ofspaceprovidesproperairﬂow.

•Donotleaveopenspacesaboveorbelowaninstalledserverinyourrackcabinet.Tohelpprevent

damagetoservercomponents,alwaysinstallablankﬁllerpaneltocovertheopenspaceandtohelp

ensureproperaircirculation.

•Installtheserveronlyinarackcabinetwithperforateddoors.

•Planthedeviceinstallationstartingfromthebottomoftherackcabinet.

•Installtheheaviestdeviceinthebottomoftherackcabinet.

•Donotextendmorethanonedeviceoutoftherackcabinetatthesametime.

•Removetherackdoorsandsidepanelstoprovideeasieraccessduringinstallation.

•Connecttheservertoaproperlygroundedoutlet.

•Donotoverloadthepoweroutletwhenyouinstallmultipledevicesintherackcabinet.

•Installtheserverinarackthatmeetsthefollowingrequirements:

–Minimumdepthof70mm(2.76in.)betweenthefrontmountingﬂangeandinsideofthefrontdoor.

–Minimumdepthof157mm(6.18in.)betweentherearmountingﬂangeandinsideofthereardoor.

–Minimumdepthof718mm(28.27in.)andmaximumdepthof762mm(30in.)betweenthefrontand

rearmountingﬂangestosupporttheuseofthecablemanagementarm.

Note:ThemaximumdistancebetweenthefrontandtherearEIArailsoftherackis810mm(31.9in.).

•Alwaysinstalltheheaviestdevicesinthebottomoftherackcabinet.

•Donotextendmultipledevicesfromtherackcabinetsimultaneously,unlesstherack-mounting

instructionsdirectyoutodoso.Multipledevicesextendedintotheservicepositioncancause

yourrackcabinettotip.

•IfyouarenotusingtheIBM9308rackcabinet,securelyanchortherackcabinettoensure

itsstability.
