Rack installation instructions
Be sure to read and understand the documentation that comes with the rack cabinet for safety and
cabling information. Before you install the server in a rack cabinet, review the following guidelines:
v Two or more people are required to install devices 2U or larger in a rack cabinet.
v Make sure that the room air temperature is below 35°C (95°F).
v Do not block any air vents; usually 15 cm (6 inches) of space provides proper airflow.
v Do not leave open spaces above or below an installed server in your rack cabinet. To help prevent
damage to server components, always install a blank filler panel to cover the open space and to help
ensure proper air circulation.
v Install the server only in a rack cabinet with perforated doors.
v Start from the bottom of the rack cabinet for the device installation.
v Install the heaviest device in the bottom of the rack cabinet.
v Do not extend more than one device out of the rack cabinet at the same time.
v Remove the rack doors and side panels to provide easier access during installation.
v Connect the server to a properly grounded outlet.
v Do not overload the electrical outlet when you install multiple devices in the rack cabinet.
v Install the server in a rack that meets the following requirements:
Minimum depth of 70 mm (2.76 inches) between the front mounting flange and inside of the front
door.
Minimum depth of 157 mm (6.18 inches) between the rear mounting flange and inside of the rear
door.
Minimum depth of 740 mm (29.13 inches) and maximum depth of 910 mm (35.83 inches) between
the front and rear mounting flanges to support the use of the cable-management arm.
Use safe practices when lifting.
18 kg (39.7 lb)
32 kg (70.5 lb) 55 kg (121.2 lb)
Do not place any object on top of
rack-mounted devices.
Remove the left and right guide rail components from the package. The illustration below shows the
components of the right guide rail. The components of the left guide rail are the same as those of the
right.
1 Retaining screw for the front bracket
2 Pin on the front bracket
3 Front bracket
4 Bearing bracket
5 Rear bracket
Remove the retaining screws on the front and rear
brackets.
2
According to the length between the front post and
the rear post of the rack, adjust the length of rail by
moving the rear bracket of the rail 1 until the
pins at the front and rear of the brackets click into
the holes in the rack posts. When the pins are in
place, install the retaining screws on the front and
rear of the bracket.
Notes:
1. The stretching range of the outer guide rail is
740 mm (29.13 inches) to 910 mm (35.83 inches).
Confirm the size of the rack before the
installation.
2. The left and the right outer guide rails should
be fixed to the left and the right posts of the
rack at the same level.
3. If the holes in the post are square holes, you can
operate according to the above methods.
4. If the holes in the post are round holes, remove
the retaining screws and pins on the front and
rear brackets and install the pins shipped with
guide rails. Then install the retaining screws
shipped with guide rails to secure the guide
rails onto rack.
Place the server on the bearing bracket and push it
inside. While pushing the server, you have to
support the bottom of the server with hands to
avoid the drop of the server.
When the server is in place, install the two retaining
screws on the left and right handles to secure the
server on the rack.
3
To remove the server from the rack, reverse these instructions. Store this information with your server
documentation for future use.
