Summary of Warnings and Cautions Operator Manual 129361-177
The following is a summary of the safety precautions which must be observed when operating and servicing this
equipment. WARNINGS indicate the potential for danger to personnel, and CAUTIONS indicate the potential for
damage to equipment. These precautions are repeated (in whole or in part), where applicable, throughout the manual.
WARNING - INJURY HAZARD:
Repairs and adjustments, other than those described in these instructions, should be attempted only by
experienced mechanics fully acquainted with this equipment. Use of inexperienced, unqualified persons to work
on the equipment or the installation of unauthorized parts could cause personal injury or result in costly damage.
Two people are required to change the door hinge swing.
WARNING - POTENTIAL TIPPING HAZARD:
Unit is top-heavy. Stabilize the Warming Cabinet when placing it on blocks and secure the unit when placed in
its permanent location..
WARNING - BURN HAZARD:
Do not exceed 150°F (66°C) for not-vented closures (screw caps, crimp seals, plastic pouches, etc.). Do not
exceed presterile solution manufacturer’s temperature requirements.
Do not raise set temperature to increase rate of heating. Allow approximately 8 hours for solutions to reach desired
temperature.
Do not use liquids on - or inject in - living tissue unless actual liquid temperature has been measured and is
acceptable. Temperature of warming cabinet contents may be hotter than the displayed chamber air tempera-
ture. For patient safety, in accordance with good medical practice, always check liquid temperature prior to using.
WARNING - ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD:
Do not remove control tray. Refer service to qualified service personnel.
WARNING - EXPLOSION HAZARD:
Do not use in the presence of flammable anesthetics.
Do not heat liquids containing flammable solvents.
CAUTION - POSSIBLE EQUIPMENT DAMAGE:
Some items are not acceptable for processing in this Warming Cabinet. If in doubt as to whether an item can be
safely processed, have your supervisor contact the manufacturer of the item.
Process only plastics rated as “thermal” (withstanding temperatures in excess of 300°F [149°C]). Annealed
borosilicate glass containers are the only glass containers recommended for the unit.
Process aqueous solutions, however use appropriate containers and observe temperature limitations.
When using Amsco® Pry Cream, rub in a back-and-forth motion (in same direction as the surface grain). Do not
rub with a rotary or circular motion. Do not use on plastic surfaces.

129361-177 Operator Manual Summary of Warnings and Cautions
A Word from STERIS
Corporation on the
Warming of Solutions
STERIS encourages the users of all our products to follow recommended
clinical practices to insure safe and effective use of medical products. Clinical
practice guidelines are documents that have been developed systematically
to help healthcare practitioners and patients make informed decisions about
the management of health conditions. Recommended practices provide
guidelines for the implementation of safe care to patients and assist in the
identification of potential hazards in the practice setting.
In accordance with this philosophy, we offer the following information on
warming solutions.
Your STERIS Warming Cabinet is capable of warming fluids, however the user
should ALWAYS follow the specific instructions of the manufacturer of the
solution prior to warming any fluid.
In accordance with your facility protocol and recommended practices, in order
to reduce possible patient injury, always verify the temperature of any heated
fluid prior to its use or administration.
The recommended practice for warming IV and irrigation fluids in a
warming cabinet:
Before warming IV and irrigation fluids in the warming cabinet, check with
the manufacturer of the solution or fluid for their specific recommendation.
The manufacturer’s directions will vary, depending on the composition of
the bottle material, the solution and the manufacturing process.
Irrigation/infusion solutions should be warmed or cooled to the temperature
appropriate for the surgical need.
Infused fluids should be heated or cooled in devices intended for that
purpose.
Manufacturer’s written recommendations for storage, heating, and proper
use of all skin prep solutions products should be followed. If the
manufacturer has not provided specific instructions on heating, the
manufacturer of the solution should be contacted for clarification before
any prepping solution is warmed.
Microwaves and autoclaves should not be used as warming devices.

3. SET PROCESSING TEMPERATURE
a. Set the TEMPERATURE CONTROL KNOB(s) for the desired chamber
temperature; in two-compartment models, the upper knob controls the
temperature for the upper chamber and the lower knob controls the
temperature for the lower compartment (range between 90-160°F; ap-
proximately 32-71°C).
b. Slide Control Door to the right to close if desired.
NOTE: The temperature setting maybe changed when ever desired; how-
ever, reducing the set temperature to a lower temperature could activate the
over temperature alarm buzzer.
When lowering the chamber temperature (after the initial setting has been
made), if the red OVERTEMPERATURE INDICATING light and audible alarm
are actuated, the following steps must be followed:
a. Open door to release the heated air.
b. After the temperature lowers (as indicated on the temperature display
LCD) close the cabinet door(s).
WARNING - BURN HAZARD:
DO NOT EXCEED 150°F
(66°C) FOR NON-VENTED
CLOSURES (screw caps, crimp
seals, plastic pouches, etc.). Do
not exceed presterile solution
manufacturers temperature re-
quirements.
WARNING - BURN HAZARD:
DO NOT RAISE SET TEM-
PERATURE TO INCREASE
RATE OF HEATING. Allow ap-
proximately 8 hours for solu-
tions to reach desired tempera-
ture.
3-3
Operating Instructions Operator Manual 129361-177
WARNING - BURN HAZARD:
DO NOT USE LIQUIDS ON -
OR INJECT IN - LIVING TIS-
SUE unless actual liquid tem-
perature has been measured
and is acceptable. Tempera-
ture of warming cabinet may be
hotter than the displayed cham-
ber air temperature. For patient
safety, in accordance with good
medical practice, always check
liquid temperature prior to us-
ing.
c. If the OVERTEMPERATURE INDICATING light and audible alarm remain,
turn the temperature control knob OFF and allow more cooling time with
door open.
Once the chamber has cooled, turn the temperature control knob to the
appropriate temperature.
4. Close compartment door(s).
5. Allow adequate time for materials to reach desired warming temperature.
SOLUTIONS: In bottles - Approx. 8 Hrs.
In bags - Approx. 12 Hrs.
BLANKETS: - Approx. 8 Hrs.
6. To avoid OVERTEMPERATURE alarms, do not set the lower compartment
more than 30°F (17°C) warmer than the temperature setting for the upper
compartment. For situations where a greater than 30°F (17°C) temperature
differential is desired, warm the higher temperature items in the upper
compartment.
NOTE: If the overtemperature-indicating light and alarm actuates under
normal operating conditions, call your local STERIS service representative.

(See Figure 3-3)
1. STERIS suggests that users standardize loading, unloading, cool down,
temperature checking, and come-up times, then post in an obvious
location.
2. Temperature of solutions is the responsibility of the surgeon and is a
matter of individual professional judgement and practice. In general,
temperature of solutions should not exceed 105°F (40°C) and should
always be checked prior to use.
3. In all cases, solutions should be checked before using for safe patient
temperature with a sterile-certified thermometer or equivalent reliable
means. Solution bags should be checked prior to use by pouring and
checking a sampling of contents.
4. Never overload the cabinet(s) or stack items beyond recommended
limits (see Figure 3-3).
5. All loads should be allowed to stabilize at the set temperature:
SOLUTIONS: In bottles - Approx. 8 Hrs.
In bags - Approx. 12 Hrs.
BLANKETS: - Approx. 8 Hrs.
6. Bagged solutions will heat more effectively if placed on shelves pro-
vided. Stacking increases the heating time.
7. If it is necessary to remove only part of a load from the cabinet(s), then
a FIFO (First In, First Out) routine is recommended.
8. Blankets can generally be felt by hand by a qualified nurse for patient
safe temperature.
9. Bottles should be spaced from each other for most effective uniform
heating.
