A Word From STERIS Corporation
1.1 A Word From STERIS Corporation
This manual contains important information on proper use and maintenance of the AMSCO® Flexmatic® Scrub Station. All
personnel involved in the use and maintenance of this equipment must carefully review and comply with the Safety
Precautions and instructions contained in this manual. These instructions are important to protect the health and safety of
personnel operating the scrub station and should be retained in a conveniently accessible area for quick reference.
1.2 Advisory
A listing of the SAFETY PRECAUTIONS to be observed when operating and servicing this equipment is found in Section 2, Safety
Precautions of this manual. Do not operate or service the equipment until you have become familiar with this information.
Failure to comply with the SAFETY PRECAUTIONS could result in personal injury and/or equipment damage.
Any alteration of the equipment not performed or authorized by STERIS will void the warranty. Such alterations may also
adversely affect product safety and performance.
1.3 Indications for Use
The AMSCO Flexmatic Scrub Station is used for preoperative surgical scrubbing of hands and arms. Water temperature is
automatically maintained by a thermostatically controlled mixing valve. Options include an infrared water sensor, which detects
when hands are under the faucet and turns water on and off automatically, or a digital timer, which displays time elapsed from
start of water flow.
1.4 Service Information
A thorough preventive maintenance program is essential to safe and proper scrub station operation.
You are encouraged to contact STERIS concerning our Preventive Maintenance Agreement. Under the terms of this agreement,
preventive maintenance, adjustments and replacement of worn parts are done on a scheduled basis to assure equipment
performance at peak capability and to help avoid untimely or costly interruptions. STERIS maintains a nationwide staff of well-
equipped, factory-trained technicians to provide this service, as well as expert services. Please contact your STERIS
representative for details.

Safety Precautions
The following Safety Precautions must be observed when operating or servicing the AMSCO® Flexmatic® Scrub Station.
CAUTION indicates the potential for damage to equipment. For emphasis, certain Safety Precautions are repeated
throughout the manual. It is important to review ALL Safety Precautions before operating or servicing the unit.
WARNING

Uncrating Instructions and Equipment Drawing
Utility Service Lines
Introduction-Before Installing AMSCO Flexmatic Scrub Station
Review the following information before installing or using the Amsco® Flexmatic® Scrub Station.
Uncrating Instructions and Equipment Drawing
Complete instructions for uncrating the AMSCO Flexmatic Scrub Station, as well as an equipment drawing, have been
furnished. The clearance space shown on the equipment drawing is required for proper installation, operation and
maintenance of the scrub station.
If any of these documents are missing or misplaced, contact STERIS, giving the serial and model numbers of the
equipment. Replacement copies will be sent to you promptly.
Utility Service Lines
Shutoff valves should be installed in water supply lines at a point near the equipment so the equipment can be serviced
without shutting off the building supply.
Disconnect switches should be installed in electrical supply lines near the scrub station if the unit is furnished with
optional digital timer or optional sensor.
If the scrub station is installed next to other equipment, shutoff valves and disconnect switches (if digital timer is
furnished) should be placed such that service can be shut off to one piece of equipment at a time.
If STERIS supervision is desired for installing this equipment, contact STERIS.

Installation
4.1 Installing AMSCO Flexmatic Scrub Station
CAUTION
POSSIBLE EQUIPMENT DAMAGE
The dispenser has not been sterilized prior to shipment. After installation and prior to use, the dispenser
should be sanitized according to guidelines established by the facility’s Infection Control Unit.
1. Refer to the dimensions shown in the equipment drawing and, using the two support brackets (provided by
STERIS) as templates, mark the location of the mounting holes on the wall. Secure the two brackets to the wall.
(Fasteners are not provided by STERIS due to various wall constructions.) Verify brackets are level.
NOTE: If wall structure does not support the weight of the scrub station, install chair carriers (not supplied by STERIS)
to support the brackets.
2. Repeat Step 1 for the wall Z clip(s) (provided by STERIS).
NOTE: The non-load-bearing wall Z clip(s) must be properly oriented with respect to the load-bearing brackets
as shown in the equipment drawing.
3. Lift the scrub station into position, hooking the backsplash over the Z clip(s) and letting the weight of the scrub
station rest on the brackets.
4. Only for models with digital timer(s) or sensors in non-hazardous area:
a. Press latch block at bottom center of knee panel at left end of the station and lift up panel (refer to Figure
4-1).
b. Simultaneously push spring loaded bolts toward each other.
c. Move knee panel away from latch hinges and release spring loaded bolts.

d. Place knee panel aside where it is safe from damage.
e. Pass 120 V, 60 Hz, 1-phase electric supply line (wiring and conduit not provided or installed by STERIS)
through back of scrub station.
f. Remove two screws securing cover on junction box at left end of scrub station.
g. Run electric supply line through hole in side of junction box.
h. Connect the three wires of the incoming electric supply line to terminal block on cover of junction box
(refer to Figure 4-2).
NOTE: Remove and discard the quick-connection tabs from the power input terminal block before
connecting incoming electric supply line.
i. Secure cover on junction box using the two screws.
Figure 4-2. Connect Incoming Electric Supply Line in Junction Box for Non-Hazardous Area
5. Install wall mounted/foot operated soap dispenser (accessory):
a. Use small dispenser mounting bracket as a template to mark holes location on wall above scrub sink near
each access panel to dimensions shown in Figure 4-3. The word "UP" and the arrow on the mounting
bracket indicate proper positioning. Mark location of holes.
b. Drill two anchor holes in wall using 1/4" drill bit for wallboard or wood, or a 1/4" Masonry drill bit for tile,
concrete or other similar surfaces. Over size holes result in anchor failure. Insert the anchor pointed side
into hole and tap in until it is flush with the wall. Hold up mounting bracket over the two anchors secure
with the two mounting screws.
c. Insert dispenser assembly with nozzle. If wall is not even, top screw may have to be loosened until
bracket fits snugly. Bracket snaps into place when locked in by tab in mounting bracket.
d. Attach air supply tube to dispenser assembly with nozzle.
