A Word From STERIS
1.1 Introduction
This manual contains important information on the proper use and routine maintenance of this equipment. All
personnel involved in the use and maintenance of this equipment must carefully review and comply with the Safety
Precautions and instructions contained in this manual. These instructions are important to protect the health and
safety of personnel operating this case carts and should be retained in a conveniently accessible area for quick
reference. This equipment is specifically designed only for the uses outlined in this manual.
Complete instructions for uncrating and connecting utilities, as well as the equipment drawing, have been provided. If
they are missing, contact STERIS for replacement copies, providing the serial number and model of the case cart.
1.2 Intended Use
The AMSCO Case Cart is intended to transport surgical instrument sets, endoscopes and other accessories in a hospital
setting.
1.3 Service Information
A thorough preventive maintenance program is essential to safe and proper operation. You are encouraged to contact
STERIS IMS concerning our Preventive Maintenance Agreement. Under terms of this agreement, preventive
maintenance, adjustments and replacement of worn parts are done on a scheduled basis to assure equipment
performance at peak capability and to help avoid untimely or costly interruptions. Contact your STERIS IMS
representative for details.

Water temperatures in the range of 110-194°F (43 - 90°C) for less than 10 minutes total.
Hot air drying is allowed with the temperatures not to exceed 200°F (93°C) and an exposure period not to exceed
10 minutes. Exposure at these temperatures for longer periods may damage the bumpers, shelf wheels, door
catch, handle cover, lock nuts, and other plastic components.

Safety Precautions
The following Safety Precautions must be observed when operating or servicing this equipment. WARNING indicates
the potential for personal injury and CAUTION indicates the potential for damage to equipment. For emphasis, certain
Safety Precautions are repeated throughout the manual. It is important to review ALL Safety Precautions before
operating or servicing the unit.
Strictly following these Safety Precautions enhances the Customer's ability to safely and effectively use the equipment
and helps avoid improper maintenance methods which may damage the unit or render it unsafe. It is important to
understand that these Safety Precautions are not exhaustive; Customers are encouraged to develop their own safety
policies and procedures to enhance and complement these Safety Precautions.
IMPORTANT: Please read this Operator Manual to get the best understanding and to help ensure best performance of this
equipment, which has been thoroughly inspected, tested, and adjusted by factory-trained personnel.
Equipment maintenance other than described in the manual (unless by authorized representatives of the STERIS
Corporation), shall be at the risk of invalidating the equipment warranty.
WARNING
PERSONAL INJURY HAZARD
Repairs and adjustments, other than those described in these instructions, should be
attempted only by STERIS or STERIS-trained service personnel fully acquainted with
this equipment. Use of inexperienced, unqualified persons to work on the equipment or
the installation of unauthorized parts could cause personal injury or result in costly
damage.
WARNING
BURN HAZARD
Use hand protection when removing Case Cart from washer disinfector. Case cart may
be hot.
WARNING
PREVENT PHYSICAL INJURY
To avoid slippery floor conditions, immediately wipe up any spilled liquids or
condensation in washer disinfector loading or unloading area.
Get help if Case Cart becomes stuck or difficult to move. Do not attempt to lift a Case
Cart without assistance.

Do not sit or stand on the Case Cart.
CAUTION
POSSIBLE EQUIPMENT DAMAGE
Ensure shelf is completely unloaded before making any shelf adjustment.
For roll-out shelves, after setting all four height adjustments, ensure all nuts are tight
and tracks are level.
Ensure door opening is clear of any obstruction before opening or closing the door(s).
Never rub a wire brush or steel wool on any stainless steel surface.
DO NOT USE the following materials and agents on the stainless steel surfaces:
Abrasive pads
Scrapers (metal or plastic)
Steel wool
Wire brushes
Hard water (pH above 7)
Bleach or products containing chlorine
Ammonia
Hydrochloric acid
Denatured alcohol
Use nonabrasive cleaners when cleaning case cart. Follow directions on containers and rub in a back-and-forth motion
(in same direction as surface grain). Abrasive cleaners will damage stainless steel. Cleaners rubbed in a circular motion
or applied with a wire brush or steel wool on Case carts can be harmful to stainless steel. Do not use these cleaners on
painted surfaces.
Carefully read all cleaning product labels before using on this stainless-steel case cart. Use only products recommended
for use with stainless steel. Cleaning the case cart with chloride-containing solutions (e.g., saline) can cause corrosion
and is not recommended by the manufacturer.

Doors
To open the doors, lift up on door latch paddle. To close the doors, press the door until latch catches. See .Figure 3-1

To lock the door in the open position, rotate the door(s) against the side of the unit. Pull the door
catch up and push the door under it and release. See Figure 3-2.

Shelves
To remove a roll-out shelf (solid or wire), release the lock by lifting up, pull the shelf out along its rail until the first two
rollers are visible. Then tilt up the shelf to free the first two rollers from the rail and continue to slide out until the
second set of rollers are visible. Then lift out the shelf. See Figure 3-3.

Adjusting Shelf Height for Roll Out Shelves
Adjust shelf height by first removing the shelf. Move the shelf to the new position. Secure it in place by inserting the
shelf arms into the slots. See Figure 3-4.

1. Press the button to release the rail (both sides of the cabinet).
2. Lift rail up and push towards the back. Then tilt the rail up and pull forward.
3. To set the rail in its new position, align the rear of the rail with the slots at the back of the cabinet at an angle.
4. Slide the front of the rail down, making sure the pin is behind, push down until it bottoms outs.
5. Pull the rail forward and down so that the release button appears.
6. Then re-install the shelf after both rails have been adjusted.
Adjusting Shelf Height for Non-Roll Out Shelves

1. Lift shelf and slide shelf support hooks from slots in support uprights.
2. Relocate shelf to correct height, and insert support hooks into slots of support upright. Ensure shelf is level,
adjust shelf level if necessary.
Casters
Standard Case Carts come with four total casters: two total lock and two directional lock casters. See Figure 3-6.

Clean/Dirty Indicator
An indicator is included to provide users with the status of the cart's contents. Turn clock-wise or counterclockwise to
toggle between red (dirty) and green (clean) when transporting items. See Figure 3-7.

Cool Touch Handles
Cool touch handles provide a grasping surface that resists becoming hot during automated washing. The user can grip
the cool touch handles to remove case cart from cart washer after processing. See Figure 3-8.

Component Repair and Replacement
4.1 Replacing Bumper Assembly
1. Remove ¼” screws (4) from the bottom bracket securing assembly to cart and set aside. See .Figure 4-1

2. Remove ¼” SS Cap nuts (4) and ¼” SS washers (4) from the top of the bracket and set aside to be
used for reinstalling . See Figure 4-2 and Figure 4-3.

3. Obtain new Bumper assembly and assembly following these instructions in reverse order. See Figure 4-4.

4. Verify the new bumper is secured
4.2 Replacing Casters
NOTE: Two technicians are recommended when performing this service.
NOTE: If the case cart has wire shelves remove these first before proceeding with procedure.
1. Engage the locks on each caster.
2. Carefully tip the cart onto the backside.
3. Remove the caster by removing the hex head screw (4), lock washer (4), and flat washer (4) from the
caster support plate.

4. Install new caster by placing a lock washer first and then flat washer onto hex head screw then passing screw
through the caster into the caster support plate.
5. Tighten all four screws down.
6. Carefully put cart back onto its casters
7. Verify the casters are secure and roll smoothly without binding.
8. Verify the caster locks are operational and either lock the direction or caster movement.
4.3 Replacing Clean/Dirty Indicator
1. Remove four (4) screws to remove door plate to obtain access to the Clean/Dirty Indicator. See Figure 4-6.

2. Remove the stem knob by removing the nut on the backside of the indicator. See Figure 4-7.

3. Remove the nylon nut from the back side of the indicator. See Figure 4-8.

4. Carefully remove the indicator disc from the shoulder screw. Make sure not to lose the single plastic washer. See
Figure 4-9.

5. Install the new indicator disk verifying the plastic washer is resting between the indicator wheel and the door.
6. Place the nylon nut on the shoulder screw to secure the assembly in place.
7. Tighten the nylon nut down fully verifying the threads are engaged to the end of the nut.

8. Reinstall the stem knob and secure on the backside of the indicator with the nylon nut.
NOTE: Do not over tighten disk or stem knob. Disc should spin with some resistance when turned.
9. Reinstall door plate.
4.4 Replacing Door Latch
1. Remove two #8 SS screws using a phillips screwdriver from the backside of the door latch.
2. Remove door latch from the front of the door
3. Obtain new latch and insert into the front of the door and secure with two #8 screws on the backside.
4. Verify door properly latches when closed and opens when latch lever is pulled.
NOTE: If the opening or closing function of the door is hindered the latch or latch trap may need to be adjusted.
Loosening the screws slightly will allow for minor adjustments

4.5 Latch Trap Assembly
1. Open case cart doors and anchor with door catch assembly. See Figure 4-11.

2. Remove the latch trap assembly using an adjustable wrench on the cap nut and a Phillips screwdriver to remove
the screws. See .Figure 4-12

3. Place new latch trap assembly in place and secure by placing the screw through the case cart frame, the latch
trap, washer, and secure with cap nut but do not tighten all the way down.
4. Completely close the doors and verify:
The latch trap is aligned with the door latch.
Door is held closed and not loose.
Door can open properly without binding or catch on the latch when the door latch lever is pulled.
NOTE: If the opening or closing function of the door is hindered the latch or latch trap may need to be
adjusted. Loosening the screws slightly will allow for minor adjustments.
5. Apply Red Loctite® 262 to the threads on the cap nut once the door function is verified.
6. Secure assembly in place by fully tightening the screws and nuts.

4.6 Replacing Door Catch Assembly
1. Using a 5/16” wrench and Phillips screwdriver remove the door catch assembly from the cart.

2. Obtain new door catch and spring and place spring into door catch

3. Place catch frame into door catch
4. Place door stop support catch into door catch and align holes with catch frame.

5. Place screw into hole and into case cart frame.

6. Secure with a washer and cap nut on the inside of the case cart
7. Only hand tighten catch down.
8. Open doors fully and make sure door is anchored by catch.

9. Tighten down and secure the door catch to the case cart using the phillips screwdriver and 5/16” wrench

10. Verify the door opens and closes properly and can be held by the door catch
