ESAB ESP-150 Cooling Efficiency Improvement is a product that can help to improve the cooling capacity of the ESP-150 console. It can increase the operating efficiency and life of the plasma torch and consumable parts. The change is recommended for units that are operated in very warm environments and/or operating above an “arc on” duty cycle greater than 80% and a cutting current above 120 amps. The modification requires the replacement of the existing 9.75-inch cooling fan blade located at the bottom right side of the console.

SUMMARY:
This product improvement will double the cooling capacity of the ESP-150 console and
increase the operating efficiency and life of the plasma torch and consumable parts. The
change is recommended for units that are operated in VERY warm environments and/or operating
above an “arc on” duty cycle greater than 80% and a cutting current above 120 amps.
The modification requires the replacement of the existing 9.75 inch cooling fan blade located at the
bottom right side (viewed from front) of the console. The new fan blade reverses the direction of
the air flow which has been found to increase cooling efficiency on the ESP-150 plasma system.
Order part number 0558002901 for the new fan blade. It is differentiated from the old fan by a
green dot on the fan blade near the hub.
Front Pump Side
OPERATIONAL IMPACT:
Improvement in overall plasma system reliability and consumable life.
ACTION:
NOTE
Most manual cutting occurs at a 30% duty cycle.
Most mechanized cutting is probably done at a 60% duty cycle.
CAUTION
There is no part number stamped on either fan.
Insure that the fan installed into the ESP-150 has the green dot near the hub.
To remove the old fan:
1. Disconnect all power to the ESP-150
2. Remove the 3 screws at the bottom of the rear panel that hold the rear panel to the base.
3. Remove the screw that holds the pump cover to the rear panel.
4. Slide the rear panel away from the pump and fan.
5. Remove the old fan.
6. Replace the old fan with the new fan PN-0558002901 (with green dot) insure that the set screw is
properly located on the motor shaft and is securely tightened.
7. Slide the rear panel back in place and reinstall the four screws removed in steps 2 & 3 above.
8. Check that the fan rotates freely in the shroud and clears the rear panel by about 3/16”.
The ESP-150 is ready for use.
