INSTALLATION
General Installation Information
• Power packs are designed to attach to fixture wiring trays with 1/2 inch knockouts.
• All power must be turned off prior to wiring, installation or service.
• More than one disconnect may be required to de-energize power.
• External circuit protection to the Power Pack is required (e.g., circuit breaker).
• Installation shall be in accordance with all applicable state, local and national electrical codes,
requirements, regulations and wiring practices.
• Care should be taken to separate high voltage power from low voltage (Class 2) control wiring.
• Most applications require UL listed, 18-22 AWG, 3-conductor, Class 2 cable for low voltage wiring. For
plenum return ceilings, use UL listed plenum-approved cables.
• Do not energize wiring until the unit is fully assembled and connected circuits have been tested
and found to be free of electrical shorts.

DESCRIPTION
The BZ-480-E is a power pack designed to switch two-phase 480VAC loads and provide 24VDC power to
sensors and other control devices. The BZ-480-E can switch up to a 6A load. The relay switches the load at
zero crossing for relay reliability and longevity.
The BZ-480-E supplies low voltage power to occupancy sensors and other control devices, switching line
voltage in response to signals from control devices. The BZ-480-E power pack is mounted to the exterior of
fixture wiring trays or large junction boxes.
Low voltage wiring should use at least 22-gauge wire, high voltage connections should use at least 14-gauge.
Always check local building codes. After initial wiring is complete, check wiring diagram to verify power pack is
wired correctly. Improper wiring can cause damage to power pack, lighting system, and occupancy sensor.

Mounting
The BZ-480-E is designed to be mounted outside a light fixture. It can be secured to the top or side of the
fixture, whichever provides a convenient 1/2” knockout for running the high voltage wiring to the inside of the
fixture. Low voltage wiring remains outside the fixture. Figure 1 shows an example of mounting the BZ-480-E.

OPERATION
Low Voltage Wiring
The low voltage wires provide the following functionality:
1. Blue: Control Input – Applying 24VDC to this input closes the relay in the BZ-480-E. Remove the voltage
and the relay returns to its normal state. This input is intended for sensor or control device input.
2. R e d : 24VDC Output – Provides 24VDC to power sensors, Auxiliary Relay Packs and other devices.
3. Black: Ground/Common – Provides ground/common for sensors, Auxiliary Relay Packs and other devices.
LED Indicators
The green LED indicator on the BZ-480-E should be lit whenever AC power is supplied to the BZ-480-E. If it is
not lit, check wiring connections and circuit breakers. If all line voltage is connected properly and power is
being supplied to the BZ-480-E, check the low voltage outputs for short circuits or other wiring problems.
