Hubbell Conventional Compression Splices are designed for splicing AAC conductors, providing a reliable connection with proper installation. The splice body is made of aluminum and stamped with conductor type, diameter range, die size, FARGO, and catalog number. It features a center port for field filling with joint compound or an optional factory-filled version with suffix "PC." These splices require clean and straight conductors for optimal performance.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
CONVENTIONAL COMPRESSION SPLICES
FOR AAC CONDUCTORS
The compression splice assembly consists of an aluminum splice body. Each splice body is stamped with the
conductor type, diameter range, die size, FARGO and Catalog number. Standard splice has center port for
field filling with joint compound. Optional, factory-filled splice has catalog number suffix “PC”
1. Prior to installation the conductor must be clean, straight and in lay. Any bend in conductor section to be
spliced will tend to make the splice body bow during compression.
2. Remove the protective plastic wrap. Set unwrapped connector on a clean surface and ensure the bores of
the aluminum deadend body is clear of foreign matter. Remove filler port plug and set aside.
3. Mark conductor end with insertion length This is the distance from splice end to the knurl mark on that
side of splice center.
4. With a clean stainless steel wire brush (V-brush type recommended), aggressively brush the conductor
end over the full circumference and insertion length. Immediately apply a generous coat of FARGO UJC,
or HTJC, over the just brushed conductor strands. Repeat steps 2 & 3 for opposite conductor end.
5. Insert both conductor ends into the splice tube up the marked insertion depths. With conductor ends held
at insertion depth in splice tube, inject Fargo joint compound into the filler port until compound flows over
conductor and out one splice end. Hammer the filler port plug into place until firmly seated and flush with
splice tube surface.
6. Select AH dies specified on splice body. Mount die halves in press and lubricate die faces and the crimp
zone length of the splice body with, clean oil or clean plastic wrap. With the conductors held at the
insertion depths marked above, make first compression at the knurl mark near splice center on one splice
side. Move press to opposite side knurl mark and make first compression there. Continue compressions
out to the ends of the splice. Overlap each crimp by an amount necessary to prevent the formation of
ridges between adjacent crimps. Be sure that full die closure occurs with each crimp. To minimize bowing
of splice during compression, keep both die faces and splice crimp zone equally lubricated during crimp
operation, and keep the splice body firmly seated in one die half while dies are closing.
7. Remove excess joint compound and any tape wrap markers. Remove die flash and file or sand splice
body for a smooth appearance.
