2.2.3 Bariatric Extensions NOTE: Refer to Bariatric Extensions Operator Manual (P150830-480) for more
information on extensions.
Use bariatric extensions for either normal or reversed patient orientation as long
as table weight limits and table patient position limits are maintained. Use
bariatric extensions as follows:
NOTE: For patients under the 500 lb (227 kg) limit, remove the bariatric
extensions and ensure patient is positioned properly on tabletop surface.
1. Apply bariatric extension pairs to appropriate tabletop section (see Fig. 2-5).
Do not apply to only one tabletop side. Maintain patient and tabletop
centerlines.
2. Before use, inspect bariatric extensions and surgical table side rails for wear
damage, cracked or splintered surfaces, or missing parts. Do not use
extensions if any damage or missing parts are discovered.
3. Ensure bariatric extension clamps fully contact table side rail and are
securely tightened. Test installation by lifting extension up and down,
ensuring no looseness or movement exists between side rail and extension.
4. Ensure bariatric extension application creates impression of tabletop con-
tinuation; that is, there are no visible gaps.
5. Do not use bariatric extensions on ConverTable tabletops modified with wide
x-ray top.
6. Do not use bariatric extensions with any table not specified in this document.
7. For bariatric extension use with other accessories, note the following:
a. Do not attach bariatric extensions to other surgical table accessories
equipped with side rails (such as Uro-Endo/Image Amplification Exten-
sion or IA Extension).
b. Do not attach bariatric extensions to other surgical table accessories
equipped with end rails (such as Micro-Surgical Arm and Hand Table).
c. Do not use bariatric seat extensions if shoulder table accessory is used.
d. Do not use standard table accessories that attach to both side rails (ether
screen, winged ether screen, neurosurgical posterior seating attachment,
neuro seat, and foot extension for example) with bariatric extensions
applied to tabletop.
e. Standard multipurpose armboard may not provide adequate extension if
bariatric extensions are attached to tabletop.
WARNING – TIPPING
HAZARD:
• During an articulation if the
tabletop sections or bariatric
extensions contact an ob-
struction, the table may tip.
Before lowering either the
tabletop or individual sec-
tions, remove possible ob-
structions. Do not allow leg
section or bariatric exten-
sions, when lowered, to con-
tact the floor.
• For patients under the 500 lb
(227 kg) limit, remove
bariatric extensions and en-
sure patient is positioned
properly on tabletop.
• Ensure bariatric extensions
are placed on both sides of
the tabletop. Do NOT apply
extension to only one table-
top side and maintain pa-
tient to tabletop centerlines.
WARNING – PERSONAL
INJURY AND/OR EQUIP-
MENT DAMAGE HAZARD:
• Do not attach bariatric table
extension to another exten-
sion (such as Uro-Endo/Im-
age Amplification Extension
or IA Extender) or to a table
accessory.
• To prevent patient and/or
user injury and/or equipment
damage, check the bariatric
table extensions and surgi-
cal table side rails for pos-
sible damage or wear prior
to each use. Do not use the
bariatric table extension if
any damage is apparent, if
parts are missing, or if it
does not operate as expected.
Cracked or splintered sur-
faces may cause injury.
• To prevent patient and/or
user injury and/or equipment
damage, apply bariatric table
extensions only to U.S. stan-
dard side rails like those
equipped on the Amsco 3080/
3085 SP surgical tables. Figure 2-5. Bariatric Table Extension Components
