Introduction
The FC-2000 is an expandable multi-zone Fire Alarm Control Panel
designed with maximum flexibility and modularity as a basic requirement.
The heart of the system is the Central Processor Unit (CPU-2000) module,
which monitors and directs the actions of all other modules in the system.
Fifteen other modules may be installed in various configurations. Internal
communications are accomplished over a high-speed serial bus.
The CPU-2000 is provided with the Basic Equipment package. This
module provides two Style Z and/or Style Y indicating appliance circuits,
Form-C alarm and trouble contacts, remote station alarm and trouble
outputs, and a municipal central box output.
A Main Power Supply (MPS-24A or MPS-24B) and an Indicating Zone
Module (IZM-8) must be added to make the basic system functional.
The basic system can be expanded using one or more of the following
optional modules or boards:

4 Installation—Installing the FC-2000
System expansion must comply with the:
physical limitations of the cabinet configuration
electrical limitations of the system power supply
capacity of the secondary power source (standby batteries)

Installation section of this document for installation information.
The FC-2000 has the following important features:
Distributed microprocessor electronics using latest technology
Field programmable in minutes using front panel touch switches
Large system capacity, conventional or addressable/intelligent devices
Voice alarm options with solid state messages
Extensive line of serial annunciators
Manual On/Off/Disable control for all indicating appliance circuits
and control relays
Plug-in terminal blocks for ease of field wiring
Walk test any portion of system while remainder provides fire
protection
Liquid crystal display and printer options
The following FC-2000 components are required for compliance with
NFPA standards 71 and 72:
1. BE-2000 Basic Equipment Package, which includes:
CPU-2000 Central Processor Module, VP-1 Vented Dress Panel,
BP-3 Battery Dress Panel, CHS-4 Chassis, interconnecting cables,
and instruction manuals
2. An IZM-8 Initiating Zone Module for up to eight Style B initiating
device circuits or an AIM-200 Addressable Intelligent Module for up
198 addressable devices
3. Main Power Supply (MPS-24A or MPS-24B)
4. Standby Batteries--Refer to the Calculating Power Supply

10 Installation—Installing the FC-2000
The following procedure outlines the installation and field wiring of the
FC-2000’s modules and refers to illustrations in the Installation, Field
Wiring the Modules, and Power Supplies sections of this document. This
procedure, and its diagrams and instructions, must be followed closely to
avoid damage to the control panel and its associated equipment. To a
great extent, reliability depends upon proper installation and maintenance.
1. Cabinet--Mount the cabinet and draw all field wiring through the
knockouts provided (Figure 3). Ensure that the cabinet is properly
grounded to earth.
Note: If the door is to be hung on the left side, mount door hardware
now. The MPS-24A/MPS-24B rests on the lower door mount.
Do not draw wiring into the bottom nine inches of the cabinet,
or conflict with the power supply and batteries may result.
2. Chassis--Mount all chassis. Refer to Figures 12 and 13 for
installation of the CHS-4 and CHS-4L chassis.
3. Main Power Supply--Mount the main power supply to the cabinet as
illustrated in Figure 15. Do not wire anything at this time!
4. Audio Visual Supplies--If any optional Audio Visual Power Supplies
(AVPS-24) are to be employed, mount them to the chassis. Refer to
Figure 14 for mounting of the AVPS-24 to the CHS-4.
5. Audio Visual Cables--Connect the AVPS trouble cable(s). Connect
the auxiliary bell power harness to the AVPS-24. Refer to Figure 36
to connect these cables.
6. Auxiliary Relay Modules--If any optional Auxiliary Relay Modules
(ARM-4) are to be employed, mount them to the chassis as illustrated
in Figure 16.
7. Preliminary System Wiring--The main power supply and any
AVPS-24s or ARM-4s should be wired at this time while the
terminals are readily accessible. Refer to the Power Supplies section
of this document to wire the MPS-24A/B, the AVPS-24s (see
Figure 36) and any ARM-4s (see Figure 22).
8. Module Ribbon Cables--Connect the first row ribbon cable to the
CPU as illustrated in Figure 17. For each additional row of modules
installed in the cabinet, connect an expander row ribbon cable to the
CPU.
9. CPU-2000--Install the CPU module in the top left cabinet position as
illustrated in Figure 20. Connect the power ribbon and power harness
between the CPU and the main power supply as illustrated in
Figures 32 and 35.
10. Module Expander Boards--If optional expanders are to be used with
a module, install as illustrated in Figure 18.

11. Modules--Mount each module in its respective chassis position as
shown in Figure 19.
12. Field-wire each module, using the following figures for reference:
CPU-2000: Figures 23, 24, and 25
IZM-8 (Style B): Figure 26
IZM-8 (Style D): Figure 27
ICM-4/ICE-4: Figure 28
CRM-4/CRE-4: Figure 29
LCD-80, ACM-16AT/32A, ACM-8R, NIB-96, AA-30: Refer to the
Fire Management Accessories Manual (FAN 445).
TCM-2 and TCM-4: Refer to those documents in this manual.
VCM-4/VCE-4, DCM-4, AMG-1, FFT-7: For installation and field
wiring of voice alarm equipment, refer to the FC-2000 Fire Fighter’s
Command Center Technical Bulletin in this manual.
13. Power-on-check--Apply AC power to the system. Do not connect
the batteries at this time! To silence the audible trouble sounder, push
the ACKNOWLEDGE switch on the CPU. The system should reflect
the following status:
On the CPU:
Green AC POWER indicator is on.
SYSTEM TROUBLE and POWER FAILURE indicators will be
on due to the absence of batteries.
ANNUNCIATOR or MODULE TROUBLE indicator may light
shortly after AC power is applied (applies only to a system that has
not been previously configured).
On each module
The yellow trouble indicators may come on approximately
10 seconds after AC power is applied (applies only to a system
that has not previously been configured).
On each AVPS-24
The yellow trouble indicators will light due to the absence of
batteries.
On the MPS-24A/B
The BATTERY FAIL indicator will be on due to the absence of
batteries.
Failure of the AC POWER indicator, or the presence of indications
not mentioned above may suggest an installation problem. Carefully
review the installation instructions to isolate the source.

14. Programming--To configure and program the system for operation, refer
to the Programming the FC-2000 Technical Bulletin in this manual.
15. Batteries--Once the system has been programmed and is functional,
connect the batteries. Ensure that all indicators except AC POWER
are extinguished.
16. Testing--Fully field test the system by conducting the test procedure
in the Testing the System section of this document.
17. Dress Panels--Complete the installation by installing the cabinet door
first, followed by the Battery Dress Panel (BP-3), and finally,
installing all remaining dress panels (VP-1, DP-1, and the MP-1).
You may either surface or semi-flush mount the cabinet.
Mount the cabinet in a clean, dry, vibration-free area, using the four
holes provided in the back surface of the backbox.
Place the cabinet so that the top edge is 66 inches above the surface of
the finished floor. This procedure places the center of the control
panel keypad 60 inches above the finished floor.

The TR-x3 Trim Ring consists of four pieces and is used when semi-flush
mounting the CAB-x3 enclosure (where x is the cabinet size, ranging
from A to D).
Note: To semi-flush mount the cabinet, ensure ample room to allow the
door to swing fully open.
1. Place the top piece on the top of the backbox against the wall.
2. Mark the wall with the locations to drill holes using the trim ring as a
template.
3. Drill 3/16 inch diameter holes where marked. Holes should be drilled
to a depth of 1 inch.
4. Insert the provided wall anchors using a rubber mallet, tapping them
in until they are flush with the wall surface.
5. Secure the trim ring piece to the wall with the screws provided.
6. Repeat Steps 1-5 to install the left, right, and bottom trim ring pieces.
Install the bottom piece last.
Note: The side trim ring pieces should have the holes nearest to the edge
facing outward. See Figure 6.

You may mount the hinges for the CAB-x3 doors on either the left or
right-hand sides of the cabinet. The following illustrations and text depict
a left-hand mounted example. For a right-hand mounting, simply
substitute right for left in the instructions.

IMPORTANT: Assemble the two hinges and two alignment tabs to the
backbox before you install any equipment. Installing
the chassis severely limits space in the areas where the
hinges and alignment tabs are installed.

Follow the directions below for door assembly.
1. Insert door hinges into the top and bottom slots of the side you wish
to hinge (in this case, the left side). Secure the hinges to the studs in
the backbox with the nuts provided.

2. Insert the threaded stud into the bottom hinge first. Thread from the
bottom up. Place the grounding “star” washer on the stud. Place the
door’s lower corner onto this stud. Placing the door on the lower stud
first provides a place for the door to rest while you complete the
assembly, as shown above.

3. Align the door on the backbox, so that the door sits directly under the
top hinge. Thread the remaining stud into the top hinge and through
the hole in the top of the door, as shown above. The door should now
swing freely.
4. Install the door alignment tabs in the unused slots on the backbox (top
and bottom). In the example below, the door was mounted on the left,
leaving the unused slots on the right. Secure the alignment tab to the
top PEM stud with the nut provided. These tabs align the door
correctly with the backbox and prevent the door from being “skewed”
open.

5. Punch out the knockout for the door lock and install the lock
mechanism. Make sure you do this last, so that you knock out the
correct side.

To install a CHS-4, complete the following steps and refer to Figure 12.
1. Place the CHS-4 over the screw mounts on the cabinet.
2. Connect a grounding cable assembly (71073) to one of the screw
mounts.
3. Secure the assembly with the two nuts provided.
Repeat this procedure for each CHS-4 in the cabinet.

The optional CHS-4L Chassis is used to mount an AMG-1 Audio Message
Generator, FFT-7 Fire Fighter’s Telephone, or AA-30 Audio Amplifiers in
the cabinet. To install a CHS-4L, complete the following steps and refer
to Figure 13.
1. Place the CHS-4L over the screw mounts on the cabinet.
2. Connect a grounding cable assembly (71073) to one of the screw
mounts.
3. Secure the assembly with the two nuts provided.
Repeat this procedure for each CHS-4L in the cabinet.
