ProtoNode Kit Installation for PowerBay+
Full-Size BDFB
Scope & Applicability
This document details the instructions for installing the ProtoNode gateway kit into the PowerBay+
Full-Size BDFB.
Installation Procedure
NOTE: Refer to Fig. 3 on backside of document for wiring layout detail.
WARNING! ELECTRICAL HAZARD
MULTIPLE POWER SOURCES ARE PRESENT. ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION SHOULD ONLY BE
PERFORMED BY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL WITH PROPER TOOLS AND PROTECTIVE SAFETY
EQUIPMENT.
1. Loosen the captive thumbscrew found on the BDFB controller door
and uninstall the ground cable by removing the k-lock nut.
2. Carefully disconnect the ribbon cable from the BDFB controller door.
3. Remove the two upper front panels of the BDFB by uninstalling (4)
Phillips
®
head screws per panel (Fig. 1).
4. Using the supplied mounting screws, secure the ProtoNode module
and the power supply module to the mounting provisions located on
the BDFB midplane (Fig. 2).
5. Locate the twisted pair wire that includes a pre-terminated connector
installed on one end. On the opposite end of this wire harness,
install the pre-crimped fork terminals into the power supply module
termination block; red (+) wire into + (INPUT) and black (-) wire into
- (INPUT).
6. Locate the second set of twisted pair wire and install the pre-crimped
fork terminals into the power supply module termination block;
black (-) wire into -V (OUTPUT) and red (+) wire into +V (OUTPUT).
On the opposite end of this wire harness, strip both wire ends and
connect the red (+) wire into +PWR and the black (-) wire into -PWR
termination block positions of the ProtoNode.
7. Install the pre-terminated connectorized end of twisted pair wire from
Step 5 into the LOGO connection point on the BDFB controller PCB.
8. Plug a network cable into the ETHERNET port of the ProtoNode. A
network connection should also be made to the ethernet port of the
BDFB controller PCB.
9. Reinstall the front panels of the BDFB from Step 3, plug in the ribbon
cable from Step 2, and reinstall the ground cable from
Step 1. Ensure that the captive screw on the BDFB controller door is
retightened.
