Silo Weighing Module
1 Product Description
This manual concerns installation of a silo-weighing module in a climate and production computer and is
primarily aimed at electricians who are to mount, install and calibrate the weighing module.
A certified electrician must carry out the installation in accordance with applicable national rules and in Europe
in accordance with applicable EU rules.
At silo weighing, a load cell records the weight of the silo content and transmits it to the silo-weighing module.
The module transforms the weight into a value (0-10V) which the climate and production computer can use.
The module is available with two and four input terminals. Up to eight load cells can be connected to each
terminal input, e.g. WB1600 or WB6000.
2 Mounting and Installation Guide
The way of connecting the silo-weighing module depends on the distance between the silo and the climate and
production computer. Select the wiring diagram corresponding to the actual distance (more or less than 30m).

Silo Weighing Module
2.1 Silo-weighing module with two terminal inputs and max. 1
metre CAN cable
1) Check that the silo is placed max. 30m from the climate and production computer.
2) Mount a small watertight junction box next to the silo so that all load cell cables can reach it. (The
junction box is not included in the delivery).
3) Mount the silo weighing module next to the climate computer.
4) Connect the silo load cell cables in parallel in the junction box.
5) Connect the load cell cable shields mutually in the junction box with short connections (max. 20mm).
6) Connect the junction box with the silo weighing module with max. 30m shielded four-wire load cell
cable.
7) Attach the silo weighing module by means of max. 1m four-wire shielded cable to the four-poled
terminal strip on the I/O-module in the climate - and production computer.
8) Connect the cable shield under the toggle in the weighing module.

2.2 Silo-weighing module with two terminal inputs and max. 200
metres CAN cable
1) Check that the silo is placed more than 30m from the climate and production computer.
2) Mount a small watertight junction box or the silo weighing module next to the silo so that all load cell
cables can reach it. (The junction box is not included in the delivery).
3) Mount the silo weighing module max. 30m from the junction box. The silo weighing module can be
mounted outdoor.
4) Connect the silo load cell cables in parallel in the junction box.
5) Connect the load cell cable shields mutually in the junction box with short connections (max. 20mm).
6) Connect the junction box with the silo weighing module with max. 30m shielded four-wire load cell
cable.
7) Mount the manufacturer-supplied data network module on the main module. Fasten the screw firmly
and connect the flat cable.
8) Attach the silo weighing module by means of max. 200m two-wire twisted pair with double shield
(Cat. 5 cable twisted pair) to the data network module in the climate computer. Always use two wires
from the same twisted pair to CAN HI and LO. Do not use two wires from different pairs).
9) Connect the cable shield under the toggle in the weighing module and on the data network module.
10) Connect 230/240 V mains voltage to the power module in the silo weighing module.

3.1 CAN Addresses
The module must have a certain CAN address so that the computer can communicate with it. The address of the
individual module corresponds to the number of the module.
In the menu Technical / Setup / Installation / I/O modules / Silo Weighing boxes
Set the weighing modules two address switches
(Rotary Switch) X1 (and X10*) as follows:
Module 1 Type 5 W X1 Address = 1
Module 2 Type 5 W X1 Address = 2
*The address switch X10 on the weighing module is not to be changed, as it is only used when there are more
than 10 weighing modules.

3.2 CAN Termination Jumpers (max. 1 meter)
The modules are controlled by CAN-bus communication. To obtain a safe communication between the
modules, it is important that the CAN termination jumpers are set correctly.
1) Set the jumper ”ON/OFF CAN TERM” to OFF.
2) Set the jumper ”ON/OFF CAN TERM” to OFF.
3) Set the jumper ”ON/OFF Terminate” to ON.

3.3 CAN Termination Jumpers (max. 200 meters)
The modules are controlled by CAN-bus communication. To obtain a safe communication between the
modules, it is important that the CAN termination jumpers are set correctly.
1) Set the jumper ”ON/OFF CAN TERM to OFF
2) Set the jumper ”ON/OFF CAN TERM” to ON
3) Set the jumper ”ON/OFF TERMINATE” to ON (weigher module).
4) Set the jumper ”ON/OFF INT-TERM CAN” to OFF (datanet module RS485/CAN).
5) Set jumper ”ON/OFF EXT-TERM CAN” to ON (datanet module RS485/CAN)
4 Calibration
See the menu Technical / Calibration / Production / Silo / Silo
Enter the weight of the silo content at calibration.
(The more weight in the silo, the more precise the calibration will be.
Min. 100kg).
It is possible to make an offset to render the current indication from
the silo correct (the offset weight of the silo).
During calibration, the computer will generate an alarm for Missing I/O. This is normal and due to the fact that
the communication between the computer and the weighing module is disconnected
Max. 200 meters

The calibration value should only be changed in connection with calibration as a subsequent
change will have an influence on the silo content view.
Figure 1: Calibration of weighing module
Do the following to calibrate the weighing module
1) Make sure that the green PWR lamp emits light constantly (must not flash).
Yellow TX lamp and green RX lamp must flash right from the beginning.
2) Set switch #1 to ”S” (= setup) and #2, 3 and 4 to NORMAL.
3) Press the RESET button for 1 sec.
4) Wait 4 sec. until the red BUS lamp switches on* and emits light constantly
(must not flash).

5) Select the load cell input to be calibrated (only one at a time):
Silo#1: Set switch #3 to “A”
or
Silo#2: Set switch #4 to “B”
6) Make sure that the silo is empty (TARA).
7) Set switch #2 to “C” (= Calibration).
8) Wait until yellow TX lamp switches on *.
Red BUS lamp switches off.
9) Load the silo with a known test load
(the available weight at the time of the calibration).
10) Wait a few seconds until the weigher has settled at a cetain weight.
11) Return switch #2 to “NORMAL” position.
If the green RX lamp switches on, the calibration is accomplished OK*.
12) Return switch #1to NORMAL.
13) Return switch #2, 3 and 4 to NORMAL.
14) Remove the test weight from the silo (cf. item 9).
15) Press the RESET button.
This routine saves the TARE and TEST calibration values in the weighing module.

4.1 Error during Calibration
*) In case of an error, the RED+YELLOW+GREEN lamp will flash.
The calibration can fail
if switch 1 or 2 is not set correctly.
if the scale is defective or if there is no connection to the scale.
if the value with the test load (calibration plumb) is too light.
The test load must be min. 1 per mille and max. 10 per cent of full load. Full load is 2 mV/V.
Example: If the load amplifier is e.g. connected to four load cells, which give 2 mV/V at 2000 kg, the
calibration plumb must weigh min. 8 kg and max. 800 kg.
if errors occur when data are saved.
The error can be remedied by:
Setting switch 1, 2, 3 and 4 to NORMAL.
Pressing the RESET button.
Repeating the calibration.
