Correct use
The VTB180-2 is an photoelectric proximity sensor with background sup-
pression for the optical, non-contact detection of objects, animals and
persons. The sender and receiver are integrated into a single housing unit.
Due to the angled arrangement between the sender and the receiver, it is
possible to blank objects that are outside the scanning range. The light
beam output by the sender is reected by the object to be detected. The
receiver evaluates the reected light.
Starting operation
1 Check the application conditions such as size and reectance capacity
of the object as well as background inuences and compare with the
sensitivity characteristic curve of the VTB180-2.
2 Direct scanner onto the object to be probed. In the horizontal / vertical
direction, determine the on / o switching point (Display - LED orange)
and select the central position.
Remove object and set sensitivity to “max.”
Background is not detected: setting is completed.
Background is detected: reduce sensitivity until switching output
changes. Position object.
If object is not detected, turn sensitivity control in the direction of
“max.” until the switching output changes.
Remove object. Switching output changes: setting is completed.
Switching output does not change: background inuence too strong.
Check setting and application.
Maintenance
SICK light barriers are maintenance-free. We recommend doing the
following regularly:
- Clean the external lens surfaces.
- Check the screw connections and plug-in connections.
No modications may be made to devices.
Installation instructions
The included mounting nuts can be used to secure the dierent housing
versions due to the M18 thread type.

Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Die VTB180-2 ist ein optoelektronischer Reexions-Lichttaster mit Hinter-
grundausblendung und wird zum optischen, berührungslosen Erfassen von
Sachen, Tieren und Personen eingesetzt. Sender und Empfänger sind in
einem Gehäuse untergebracht. Durch eine gewinkelte Anordnung zwischen
Sender und Empfänger wird die Ausblendung von Objekten außerhalb des
Tastbereichs ermöglicht. Der vom Sender ausgebrachte Lichtstrahl wird vom
zu detektierenden Objekt reektiert. Der Empfänger wertet das reektierte
Licht aus.
Inbetriebnahme
1 Einsatzbedingungen wie Größe und Remissionsvermögen des
Objekts sowie Hintergrundeinüsse überprüfen und mit der
Empndlichkeitskennlinie des VTB180-2 vergleichen.
2 Taster auf Objekt ausrichten. In horizontaler / vertikaler Richtung
Ein- / Ausschaltpunkt (Anzeige – LED orange) ermitteln und Mittelstel-
lung wählen.
Objekt entfernen und Empndlichkeit auf „max.“ stellen.
Hintergrund wird nicht erkannt: Einstellung beendet.
Hintergrund wird erkannt: Empndlichkeit reduzieren, bis Schaltaus-
gang wechselt. Objekt positionieren.
Wenn Objekt nicht erkannt wird, Empndlichkeit (Drehknopf) Richtung
„max.“ drehen, bis Schaltausgang wechselt.
Objekt entfernen. Schaltausgang wechselt: Einstellung beendet.
Schaltausgang wechselt nicht: Hintergrundeinuss zu stark.
Applikation und Einstellung überprüfen
Wartung
SICK-Lichtschranken sind wartungsfrei. Wir empfehlen, in regelmäßigen
Abständen
– die optischen Grenzächen zu reinigen,
– Verschraubungen und Steckverbindungen zu überprüfen.
Veränderungen an Geräten dürfen nicht vorgenommen werden.
Montagehinweise
Die unterschiedlichen Gehäusevarianten können aufgrund der M18 Gewin-
debauform mit den mitgelieferten Montagemuttern xiert werden.
