Unpack the
printer and
remove the
plastic covering.

With the help of
another person,
grasp the four
bottom corners
from the right and
left sides, not
from the front and
back.
Set the printer
down on a sturdy,
flat surface.

Remove all
packing tape and
lower the multi-
purpose tray.

Open the side
and front doors of
the printer.

Unpack the toner
cartridge and
remove the
protective paper
sheet from the
drum shutter.
Holding the toner
cartridge
horizontal, shake
it 5 or 6 times to
evenly distribute
the toner.

While holding the
orange handle,
gently push the
toner cartridge all
the way into the
printer.

Gently pull out
the toner
cartridge sealing
tape.
Close the front
and upper left
doors of the
printer.

Use a coin to
unscrew the rear
side fuser plug.

Open the paper
tray by grasping
the handle and
pulling the tray
toward you.

Gently lift the
length guide and
slide it to the
right to the
correct paper
size.
Press down the
gray handle of
the width guide
and adjust to the
correct paper
size.

Align the four
corners of the
paper and place
it in the tray. The
paper should fit
easily between
the guides.
Make sure the
paper is not bent
upward by the
guides and does
not exceed the
maximum limit
marks.

Adjust the side
guide and the
length guide to
the edges of the
paper stack.
Insert the
correct paper
size label into
the slot on the
front of the tray,
then push the
tray back in until
it latches.

Connect your
printer to the
appropriate host
communications
cable.

Connect the
power cable to
the printer and
then plug the
printer into the
appropriate
power supply.
Turn the printer
on.

Operate the printer within a temperature range
of 50°–90.5° F (10°–32.5° C) and a relative
humidity range of 20%–80%.
Install the printer on a hard, level surface
capable of supporting the 91 lb (41 kg) printer.
The printer must be placed within 1.5° of level.
Allow enough space around the printer to allow
adequate ventilation and easy servicing.
Use a properly grounded AC outlet with a line
voltage of 100 V, 120 V, or 220-240 V, ±10%.
Maximum electrical current required during
operation is 10 amps for a 100 V system, 8.3
amps for a 120 V system, and 4.5 amps for a
220-240 V system.
Recommended frequency is 50–60 Hz ±2 Hz
for a 100 V system, 60 Hz ±2 Hz for a 120 V
system, and 50 Hz ±2 Hz for a 220-240 V sys-
tem.

duplexer into the

feeder.

duplexer cable

sideways, insert
it into the slot on
the lower end of

supporter up
and down to
break the plastic
connection.
Repeat this step
to break the

connections.

Lift up the filler
panel as shown
to remove it from

Insert the cutter/
supporter into
the slots at the
front end of the
duplexer. It is
used to support
the face-up tray.

Insert the two
thumbscrews
into the face-up
tray holder.

Attach the face-
up tray holder to
the printer and
tighten the two

up tray onto the
holder.

Make sure the

unplugged from

communication
cables.
Unpack the
HCIF and its
parts, and
remove any
packing material
or tape.

Lock the front
roller on the
HCIF.
Make sure the
connecting
cable is fed
through the
cable notch on
the rear of the
HCIF.

With another
person, lift the
printer and lower
it onto the HCIF,
while noting the
alignment of the
covers of the
printer and
HCIF.

Pull the lower
tray of the
printer all the
way out until it
stops, then lift it
up slightly to
remove it.
Remove the top
tray of the HCIF,
using the same
technique.

Attach one
mounting
bracket to the
left side of the
printer/HCIF
frame and
secure it with a
thumbscrew.

Attach the other
mounting
bracket to the
right side of the
printer/HCIF
frame and
secure it with a

stopper and

envelope stack
with the flap up
and the long
edge first.

guide in so it

the edge of the

HCOS off of the
pallet and stand
the box to a
vertical position.
Open the box
and unpack the
HCOS and its
components.

Install the
vertical transport
onto the top of
the printer.

Lock the rollers
on the printer.

Pass the locking
bar under the
printer and hook
it into the center
slot on the left
side of the
printer.

On the right side
of the printer,
push up the
locking bar
supporting unit
to fit the tabs in
the slots behind
the printer cover.

Attach the align-
ment bracket
with the two
thumbscrews on
the right side of
the printer.

Raise the
horizontal
transport, then
flip down the two
supporters so
that it remains
horizontal.

Move the HCOS
close enough to
the printer for
cable
connection.
Make sure the
HCOS and the
printer align
correctly.

Plug the power
cable of the
HCOS into the
power outlet on
the printer.

Extend the
locking bar and
insert the end
into the opening
on the bottom of
the HCOS.

Gently push the
HCOS towards
the printer until
they lock in
place. Make
sure the
horizontal
transport is
positioned
correctly on the
top of the printer
and its far end
goes securely
into the vertical
transport.

Insert and
tighten the
locking screw to
secure the
HCOS to the
printer.

Plug the
interface cable
of the HCOS
into the output
connector on the
printer.
