Caution
: The OPC belt is extremely sensitive to
bright light and direct sunlight. Always leave it in its
protective bag until you’re ready to install it. Also,
handle the cartridge carefully. The belt is also
extremely sensitive to hand oils and scratches,
both of which reduce print quality.
If it’s not already
open, open the
printer’s front
cover, then the
top cover.
Rotate up the
two lock levers
(one on each
side of the OPC
belt cartridge
opening) to
prepare the
opening for the
cartridge.
Remove the
protective sheet
from the
cartridge, and
then pull out the
two orange
tension-release
spacer pins (one
on each side of
the cartridge).
»Note:
Save
the spacer
pins in case
you need to
repack the
printer later.
Caution
: Opening the front cover is necessary as it pulls the toner
cartridges forward slightly to make room for the OPC belt cartridge.
You could damage the OPC belt if you don’t do this.
Caution
: The cartridge should slide easily into the
printer. Don’t force it.
Holding the
cartridge above
the printer, align
the guide pins
on the cartridge
with the guide
slots in the lock
levers. The white
gear on the
cartridge goes
to the right, and
the green
surface faces
you.
Gently guide the
cartridge into
the printer.
Rotate the two
lock levers.

If it’s not already
open, open the
printer’s front
cover and
unpack the toner
cartridges.
Distribute the
toner in the
cartridges (hold
them with both
hands and
gently rock them
from side-to-side
5 or 6 times).
Pull the tab on
each cartridge.
Remove the
orange
protective cover
from each
cartridge.
»Note:
The
black starter
cartridge will
print 5,000
letter/A4-size
pages; the 3
color starter
cartridges
will each
print 3,000
pages (5%
coverage).
Caution
: Each toner cartridge has a colored label
that corresponds to a colored label to the right of
the cartridge slots. Always install the toner
cartridge in the slot with a label of the same color.
If a toner cartridge doesn’t slide in easily, don’t
force it. Check that you’re installing the correct
color toner cartridge into the correct slot. Each
cartridge is physically (as well as visually) keyed to
ensure correct installation. Inserting the toner
cartridges too far into the printer can result in
reduced output quality.
Install the four
toner cartridges.
Align each toner
cartridge with its
cartridge guides,
and gently slide
toner cartridges
into their correct
location.
Do NOT force
them. Toner
cartridges do
not snap into
place and may
not appear to be
fully inserted;
closing the front
door will guide
the cartridges to
their final
position.
Remove any
packing material
from the printer’s
waste toner
pack (bottle).
Ensure that the
waste toner
pack is re-
inserted into its
cavity when
finished.
Close the
printer’s front
cover.

Lower input feeder kit contents:
Input feeder unit
Letter/A4 media cassette
Two small metal brackets with thumbscrews
Two plastic side covers
»Note:
There may be other pieces shipped with the lower input feeder;
however, they are not required for this procedure.
Remove the feeder from the shipping carton, and place it on a flat surface.
Remove any tape and packing material from the feeder.
»Note:
Save the packing material in case you have to move the feeder to a
new location.
WARNING!
If consumables are installed, be sure to keep the printer
level when moving it to prevent accidental spills.
ACHTUNG!
Achten Sie bitte darauf, daß der Drucker mit eingebauten
Tonerkartuschen nur waagerecht transportiert wird.
Move the input
feeder to a table
or flat surface
near the printer.
Set the printer
on top of the
input feeder.
Be sure to align
the printer and
input feeder as
precisely as
possible.
Install the two
metal brackets
underneath the
side of the
printer.
Holding the
bracket at a
slight angle,
slide it up into
the hole under-
neath the printer
before setting it
to vertical.
Make sure that
the hole in each
metal bracket is
lined up with the
corresponding
hole on the input
feeder.
Use the thumb-
screws to attach
the two brackets
to the lower
input feeder.
Remove the
lower input
feeder cover
plate. You will
switch this cover
plate with the
one from the
printer after the
cables have
been connected.
Locate the cable
at the left rear of
the feeder, and
connect it to the
printer.
Reinsert the two
cover plates.
»Note:
If you move the printer with the lower input feeder
attached, lift the unit by the four bottom corners, not by the
feeder’s cassette slot and not by the printer itself.
Snap the plastic
side covers onto
the appropriate
sides of the
input feeder.
