iFlash SM-Direct Card Reader Installation Guide
Congratulations on purchasing the iFlash SM-Direct USB Card Reader!
The iFlash SM-Direct Card Reader works with USB enabled Microsoft Windows 98,
ME, 2000, XP, and Mac 8.6/9/X and higher systems. This installation Guide contains
all the information you need to install your iFlash SM Card Reader.
A. Windows Users
To install the iFlash SM Card Reader on Windows 98/98SE
:
1. Do not Plug the card reader into the PC’s USB port before the installation is
completed.
2. Insert the Driver CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
3. The CD-ROM will auto-run and pop up a Driver Installation Manual Window.
4. In the Driver Installation Manual, select “Smart Media”.
5. The driver installation program will run.
6. Follow installation instructions accordingly to complete the driver installation.
7. Reboot your computer.
8. Plug the card reader into your computer USB port.
9. A new removable drive is added to you computer. The card reader can now be
used as any other drive on your computer.
10. Insert Smart Media card, then you can access files in your card.

To install the iFlash SM Card Reader on Windows Me/2000/XP
:
1. Plug the card reader into your computer USB port.
2. It is fully Plug & Play in Windows Me/2000/XP, no driver installation needed.
3. A new removable drive is added to you computer. The card reader can now be
used as any other drive on your computer.
4. Insert Smart Media card, then you can access files in your card.
B. Macintosh Users
To install the iFlash SM Card Reader on Mac OS 8.6
1. Insert the Driver CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
2. Double click the CD-ROM icon and choose “Smart Media”
3. Double click “USB Card Reader” and follow installation accordingly to complete.
4. Reboot your computer.
5. Plug the card reader into your computer USB port.
6. A new disk is added to you computer. The card reader can now be used as any
other drive on your computer.
7. Insert Smart Media card, then you can access files in your card.

to download the latest driver.
To install the iFlash SM Card Reader on Mac OS 9 and OS X
Note: Please go to Mac website to update the Mac OS to the latest version.
1. Plug the card reader into your computer USB port.
2. It is fully Plug & Play in Mac OS 9 and OS X, no driver installation needed.
3. A new disk is added to you computer. The card reader can now be used as any
other drive on your computer.
4. Insert Smart Media card, then you can access files in your card.
C. Removing your SM card from the iFlash SM-Direct USB Card Reader
To remove the Smart Media card on Windows system
1. Close any files that are opened and reside on the Smart Media card.
2. Wait until the green LED Activity light stops flashing, then you can remove your
card safely.
To remove the Smart Media card on Mac system
1. The Smart Media card must be “ejected” or “un-mounted” by dragging the card’s
disk icon into the trash.
Caution: Failure to properly “eject’ the card before removing the card from the card
reader could cause data loss or corruption.
