When installing the TZM 1612 unit, please read this handbook carefully.
The manufacturer shall not be held responsible for damage due to use, even
correct, of its products.
The data and characteristics of the product may be modified without prior notice.
According to the protocol used, the messages exchanged between the host and TZM1612
are amongst the following control characters:
- command from host to TZM1612:
STX ADDR command ETX
- reply of the TZM1612 to the host:
STX ADDR reply ETX
The character STX corresponds to 02 hex,
the character ETX corresponds to 03 hex,
the ADDR field is the address of the TZM1612: from 30 hex to 37 hex (or from 0 to 7 in ASCII)
The contents of the command and reply fields are the same as the commands indicated
above for the RS232 protocol except for the CR character (hex 0D) which is omitted in this
case.
8.1 COMMANDS MANAGED
The commands that can be sent via RS485 are all those envisaged for RS232 except for the
"Set RS485 communication parameters" command:
- video and audio switching command
- video switching command
- audio switching command
- status request
- creation of a preset
- recall of a preset
- firmware release identification request.
- global status request
- set switching through blank time
- switching through blank time request
Example: in this case the format of the video switching command will be as follows:
STX ADDR VXXYY ETX where: V is the character Hex 56
XX is the output (from 01 to 12)
YY is the video input (from 01 to 16)
The TZM1612 matrix replies:
STX ADDR ACK ETX where: ACK is the character Hex 06
if the command has been performed correctly
STX ADDR NACK ETX where NAK is the character Hex 15
if transmission errors have been detected or incorrect parameters.
Therefore, the switching command of video input 5 to bus 4 for the TZM1612 with address 2
will be as follows:
STX 2 V 04 05 ETX (in Hex code: 02 32 56 30 34 30 35 03)
the matrix will reply with:
STX 2 ACK ETX (in Hex code: 02 32 06 03)

- This handbook and
the certificate of conformity.
- The infrared remote
control (OPTIONAL).
The main
cable
The TZM 1612 is a 16X12 matrix per RGBHV signals plus associated audio.
The possibility of programming output 12 as preview promotes extremely versatile use of the
matrix in certain multi-media applications.
The matrix can also process Y, Cb, Cr signals.
The possibility of saving and recalling 8 configurations via the keypad, serial line or IR remote
control makes the TZM1612 highly versatile in presentation environments.
The TZM1612 features through blank switching mode.
The switching time is user-selectable to adapt more precisely to the characteristics of the
destination.
This solution makes it possible to avoid the annoying effects that are typical of LCD devices
when a signal is switched at their input.

e) Setting of switching time from keypad:
The TZM1612 performs through blank switching. Switching time can be selected by the user
for improved adaptation to the characteristics of the destination.
This important feature avoids the annoying effects that are typical of LCD devices when a
signal is switched at their input. As each LCD has its own response time, for optimal
switching, the user can modify blank duration from 0.3 to 2 seconds.
Four times can be set: 0.3 sec.; 0.5 sec.; 1 sec. and 2 sec. as per the table below. A flash of
the built-in led of buttons IN13÷IN16 indicates that the command has been saved.
The time set remains the same also for subsequent power-ons.
MODE+IN13 0.3 sec.
MODE+IN14 0.5 sec.
MODE+IN15 1 sec.
MODE+IN16 2 sec.
To display the switching time at which the TZM 1612 unit is working:
-LOCK the MODE button.
- Observe the built-in leds of buttons IN13÷IN16. The led of button IN13 indicates the
shortest time while that of button IN16 indicates the longest time.

According to the protocol used, the messages exchanged between the host and TZM1612
are amongst the following control characters:
- command from host to TZM1612:
STX ADDR command ETX
- reply of the TZM1612 to the host:
STX ADDR reply ETX
The character STX corresponds to 02 hex,
the character ETX corresponds to 03 hex,
the ADDR field is the address of the TZM1612: from 30 hex to 37 hex (or from 0 to 7 in ASCII)
The contents of the command and reply fields are the same as the commands indicated
above for the RS232 protocol except for the CR character (hex 0D) which is omitted in this
case.
8.1 COMMANDS MANAGED
The commands that can be sent via RS485 are all those envisaged for RS232 except for the
"Set RS485 communication parameters" command:
- video and audio switching command
- video switching command
- audio switching command
- status request
- creation of a preset
- recall of a preset
- firmware release identification request.
