Configuring Xcelerator IP with Cbeyond’s
BeyondVoice
TM
with SIPconnect service
July 2007
Introduction
Configuring Vertical’s Xcelerator IP PBX for use with Cbeyond’s BeyondVoice with
SIPconnect service offers you and your customers significant cost and voice quality
benefits over using one of the legacy interfaces with a gateway. This document
illustrates the requisite steps to get the Xcelerator IP to register with the BeyondVoice
with SIPconnect service. It narrowly focuses on this scope and should be used in
conjunction with the general Xcelerator IP configuration and installation documentation.
SIPconnect is an industry standards-based approach to direct IP peering between SIP-
enabled IP PBXs and VoIP service provider networks. If you would like more
information about the SIPconnect Interface Specification, which was defined by the SIP
Forum in their Service Provider to IP PBX Interoperability Task Group, go to
http://www.sipforum.org/sipconnect.
Pre-Requisites
Before using this document, it is required that the implementer be qualified in
configuring Xcelerator IP.
The Xcelerator IP Firmware must be v1.5.4.0 or higher.
Constraints
The interoperability testing performed did not include any STUN or fax testing. It is
recommended that you use the analog ports on the IAD, that Cbeyond supplies with the
service (two of the analog ports are complementary), for faxing. Also, it is strongly
recommended that if a firewall is used on the customer premise, it should be SIP-aware
(ALG compliant).
How to configure Xcelerator IP with Cbeyond’s BeyondVoice™ with SIPconnect Service
1. From the main Xcelerator Web page Click on the Voice area to access the Trunk area
then click on the IP Trunks to setup the SIP trunks.
2. Fill out the Phone Number and User Name fields with the number that is provided to
by Cbeyond. This field is the same value as the Auth ID field. This information is
supplied to you by your Cbeyond Service Coordinator and can be found on the
SIPconnect Settings section of the Install Profile. Cbeyond refers to it as the “PBX
Username”. It is typically the ten digit billing telephone number.
3. The Auth ID and Auth Password are used for digest challenge provided to you by
Cbeyond. The Auth Password is supplied to you by your Cbeyond Service Coordinator
and can be found on the SIPconnect settings of the Install Profile. Cbeyond refers to it as
the “PBX Password”.
4. Fill in the SIP proxy with the “SIPconnect Domain” information that is provided to
you from Cbeyond Service Coordinator and can be found on the SIPconnect settings of
the Install Profile. The field is specific to your market (sipconnect.mkt0.cbeyond.net
where mkt is “atl” for Atlanta, “lax” for Los Angeles, “ hou” for Houston, “dal” for
Dallas, “den” for Denver, “chi” for Chicago, “sdg” for San Diego, “det” for Detroit, etc.).
5. Enter “3600” in the Register Expires field. It is important that it is updated from “60”
seconds so that the Cbeyond network doesn’t get flooded by registrations.
6. Leave the Port information for the SIP Proxy at its default value of 5060.
7. The Outbound Proxy and corresponding port can be left blank unless the service
activation specialist instructs that they should be filled out and provides the needed
values.
8. Only one of your SIP Trunks should register with the Cbeyond SIPconnect service. If
this is the first IP Trunk you are setting up, verify that the “Register Status” is set to
“On”. If you have already set up the IP Trunk that registers to the service, any other IP
Trunks that you set up should have a “Register Status” of “Off”.
9. Verify that the IP Trunk you setup is registered by going to the Diagnostics menu and
checking the “IP Trunk Line [x]:” status. It should be “IDLE”.
