Your Rat Zapper Classic will need a clean-up once in a while.
How do you know when it’s dirty?
Here are a few signs:
The red LED light is ashing and there’s nothing inside and
you hear a buzzing or zapping sound or the red LED light
is ashing when you rst turn on your Rat Zapper Classic.
These signs suggest that some moisture or material is
bridging the metal plates, which creates a false signal to
the Rat Zapper Classic’s techno-brain.
Cleaning your Classic is easy:
1. Turn the power switch OFF and remove the batteries;
2. Get a shallow disposable tray into which your Rat
Zapper Classic can t;
3. Fill the tray with approximately one-inch of warm
water and a squirt of un-scented dish detergent;
4. Immerse the lower portion only of your Rat Zapper
Classic in the pan for one hour;
5. Use a small, disposable, soft brush to gently clean
around the metal plates;
6. Gently ush out the bottom of the Rat Zapper Classic
with fresh water (no water in the upper compartment,
please!);

Rats and Mice are nocturnal. That means while you sleep, they play and look for a meal. So, how do you locate
their favorite hangouts? Look for droppings along baseboards and look for points of entry. Place your Rat Zapper
Classic lengthwise against a wall or other barrier in the area of suspected rodent activity, but don’t turn it on yet!!!
(First read the Baiting Strategies and Rats are Savvy sections, below).
Place 4 “AA” alkaline batteries into your Rat Zapper Classic
which will provide approximately a whole year of stand-
by power. The battery compartment is located between the
power switch and the front of the Rat Zapper Classic under
the battery cover. Replace the batteries when necessary with
Energizer or other comparable high quality alkaline batteries.
Once you’ve placed your Rat Zapper Classic in your high-
trafc rodent zone, it’s time to bait it. We’ve carefully
researched dry pet food and found it an excellent lure.
Other dried baits (nuts, dehydrated fruit, etc.) can also work
well. The method of baiting, however, will be different for
mice vs. rats.
Goopy Bait Note: Please don’t place moist or goopy bait in
your Rat Zapper Classic unless you place it in a plastic container,
like a medium plastic bottle cap, and then slide it to the back
of your Rat Zapper Classic. (Otherwise you may goop the
electronics and/or falsely trip the system.)
Creeped out by those unpleasant
or hard-to-reach places like attics,
basements, and garages. So are we!
That’s why we designed the Rat
Zapper Rat Tale. It is a 12-foot long,
thin, exible extension that enables
ideal placement. All you do is plug the cord into your Rat
Zapper Classic so you don’t have to go into those yucky
places to check your trap!
The red LED light is your kill indicator and when it’s
ashing, it’s time to empty your Rat Zapper Classic. Turn
the power switch to the OFF position and go ahead and
look inside. It’s okay, honest! There will be no disgusting
blood or gore like other traps. The Rat Zapper Classic
is designed to provide you with the most humane and
environmentally friendly means of pest “E-Rat-ication.”
(Sorry, couldn’t resist).
To bait for rats:
1. Making sure the power is OFF, place a few nuggets
of bait inside the unit, then slide it to the closed end of
the chamber;
2. Then, place a few nuggets about one-inch inside the
open end of the chamber;
3. Allow them one free meal! Once a rat goes in and
chows down on all the bait, usually in one or two days,
your Rat Zapper Classic is ofcially “scented” and that
rat and his brethren will be back for a shocking dining
experience.
4. Replace only the bait in the back of the chamber;
5. Turn the unit ON. (The red LED light on top should
blink once indicating the power is on and the batteries
are good.)
Rats are wary critters and they’ll initially avoid anything new in
their environment. Good news is we’re smarter than they are! It
may take a few days or nights for the rst rat to enter your new
Rat Zapper Classic, but be patient! If you believe a new form
of bait might work better, go ahead and try something new to
If you have a mouse in your house (super small droppings as
compared to rat droppings, which are about the size of half a
raisin) simply:
1. Making sure the power is OFF, place a few
nuggets of the bait inside the unit and slide it to
the closed end of the chamber;
2. Turn the unit ON. (The red LED light on top
should blink once indicating the power is on and
the batteries are good).
If mice are in fact present, you should have results tonight. If
you’re not certain you have mice or if you know you’ve got a rat
problem, follow the Rats Are Savvy steps in the following section.
If the red check light does NOT come on when you turn the
power switch to the ON position, or if the light is dull when
it blinks once, replace your batteries.
attract the rat into your Rat Zapper Classic. Outwit them by
taking the following extra ve simple (but hugely important!)
steps to lure them inside your Rat Zapper Classic.
