Late-Breaking News
Windows 2000
Localized Versions
On a system with Windows 2000 Korean, Japanese, or Simplified Chinese, the Windows 2000
interface will display in English after completing Setup. Windows 2000 will display in the proper
language after you restart the system for the first time.
BIOS Changes
To run Windows 2000 on your system, you may need to make some changes in BIOS Setup.
To enable USB function:
Under Advance Chipset Setup, change USB Function to Enabled.
To enable ACPI before installing Windows 2000 for the Hibernate and Standby features:
Under Advance Chipset Setup, change ACPI Control Register to Enabled.
Under Power Management Setup, change ACPI Aware O/S to Yes.
Under Plug and Play Setup, change Plug and Play Aware O/S to Yes.
See the System Board Manual for more information on running BIOS Setup.
Power Management
Using current versions of Hardware Monitor and ECC Memory Monitor software prevents the use
of Hibernate or Standby modes. Updated versions that allow the use of these modes will be posted
to the Support pages on the World Wide Web (http://www.intergraph.com/ics) when available.
You cannot use Hibernate or Standby modes on a system with the following video controllers:
Intense3D Wildcat 4105, 4000, 3510, 3410, 3400
RealiZm II VX113, VX113A
Device Manager
If your system has a SAF-TE card installed on the RAID disk drive cage, Device Manager displays
the card under ? Other Devices. Despite this designation, the card is working properly.
2
Device Manager may display an error (!) for the VGA Controller on the following video
controllers. You may ignore this designation, as it does not affect their operation:
Intense3D Wildcat 4105, 4000, 3510, 3410, 3400
RealiZm II VX113, VX113A
Reinstalling Wildcat Graphics Drivers
If you reinstall Windows 2000 on a system with Intense3D Wildcat graphics, you must install the
driver software for the Wildcat graphics controller after completing Windows 2000 Setup.
To install Wildcat graphics driver software in Windows 2000:
1. Log on to Windows 2000 using an account that has administrative privileges.
2. Right click My Computer and go to Manage » Device Manager » Other Devices » Video
Controller » Driver » Update Driver.
3. When the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard displays, click Next.
4. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended), and then click Next.
5. Make sure the appropriate search location is selected, and that Disk 1 of the driver media is
loaded in the appropriate drive; then click OK.
6. Under Driver Files Search Results, click Next to start the installation.
7. Insert Disk 2 when prompted, and then click OK to continue with the installation.
8. Once the driver successfully installs, click Close.
CAUTION Windows 2000 recognizes the dual pipelines in a Wildcat 4110 or 4210 graphics
controller as two devices. Repeat Steps 2 through 7 to complete the installation for
the VGA-compatible video controller driver.
9. Restart the computer.
BIOS Requirement
BIOS version 1.30B or later is required for Windows 2000.
Windows NT
Setup and the Network Controller Driver
CAUTION When going through Windows NT Setup (for the first time or to reinstall Windows
NT), do not let Setup auto-detect and configure the system’s network controller. If
you do, the system may fail to operate correctly.
3
When going through Setup for the first time on a system running Windows NT Server, do the
following when asked if you want Setup to search for the network adapter:
1. Click Select from List and then click Have Disk.
2. In the text box, replace A: with \winnt\pro100plus, and then click OK. On a system with
Japanese Windows NT Server, replace A: with C: and then click OK.
3. When prompted to select the OEM option, click Intel PRO Adapter and then click OK.
When going through Setup at all other times, complete Setup without auto-detecting the system’s
network controller. When Setup completes, install the network controller driver software manually
from diskette.
The network controller driver software is in the PRO100PLUS folder on the system’s driver CD.
First see the README.TXT file for information on creating a driver diskette using the MAKEMS.BAT
program. Then see the MS.TXT file for information on installing the driver software using Network
in the Windows NT Control Panel.
After installing the network controller driver software, see the System Guide for information on
configuring networking. When installing network protocols (such as TCP/IP), you can install them
from C:\WINNT\I386 on your system.
Setup and the SCSI Controller Driver
If you reinstall Windows NT, you must install the SCSI controller driver software from diskette.
You cannot install it from the system’s driver CD.
System Hardware
Boot Hang
Your system may hang intermittently while booting, following the display of the “Z” logo with a
blinking cursor, or after scanning devices connected to the SCSI controller. If this happens, restart
the system and run BIOS Setup. Go to Advanced CMOS Setup and set Quick Boot to disable,
then save the change and exit from BIOS Setup. This procedure marks unused IDE ports as “not
installed,” so you must repeat it if you add any IDE devices later.
Mylex RAID Controller
If your system has a Mylex RAID controller, you can press ALT+R during system boot to run RAID
configuration utilities. To ensure your system can do this, restart the system and run BIOS Setup.
In Advanced CMOS Setup, set 2nd Boot Device to SCSI, then save the change and exit from
BIOS Setup. For more information on Mylex RAID configuration, see the Mylex documentation
delivered with the RAID controller.
