Introduction

MLA and MLA Compact are the first products utilising a revolutionary Multicellular approach to sound distribution in large

venues.The MLAsystemprioritises thecoherenceandbalanceofsound whereitarrives atthe audienceareas ignoringthe

soundemittedfromthearray.IncorporatingMartinAudio’ssuperbacousticdesignthesystemmakesitpossibletoachievea

phenomenallyevendistributionofsoundtoeachand

everyaudiencememberandtoensureminimumsoundleakageintoareas

whereitisnotwanted,somethingthatnoothersystemcanoffer.



AboutThisManual

ThismanualexplainsindetailtheindividualcomponentsthatcompriseacompletesystemwhichmaybeMLA,MLACompact,

MLAMinioreven acombination ofallthree.System wiringand riggingisexplained andthetwo keysoftwarepackagesare

covered.Itisnothowevertheintentionforthismanualtobethesoletuto

rialmediumforthosewishingtousethesystem.Each

systemsaleisaccompaniedbyanextensivethreedaytrainingcoursewhichcoversusingthesystemincludingadayspenthands‐

onsettingupandde‐riggingasystem.Thereisagrowingbandoftrainedtechnicianswhohavecompletedthecourse.Inno

constructedpredominantlyfromhighgrade 18mmbirchplywoodwithriggingfabricatedfrompowdercoatedsteelandwith

decorativerubberendpanelswhichalsogiveimprovedstabilitywhenstackingonend.Astrong,widesteelbarhandlemakes

handlin

g safe and easyand the cabinet is coatedin a plasticised two partcompletely weatherproof textured black coating.

Together with the canvas weather cowl protecting the amplifier module from either excessive sunlight or precipitation the

systemcanbeusedoutdoorswithoutanyadditionalweatherproofingfo

rthearrays.

Rigging

MLA’srigginghasbeenderivedfromthehighlysuccessfulriggingsystememployedonMartinAudio’slinearraysystem.Thishas

provedtobepopular,quickandaboveallsafe.RiggingMLAwillbeinstantlyfamiliartoanyonewhohasriggedMartinAudio

systemsinthepast,wehavemadeafewminorimprovementstomake

iteveneasiertouseandithasprovedtobeincredibly

quicktoflyandland.

TheMLAsystemusesafrontriggingsystemwhichensuresthebestpossiblecouplingbetweencabinetswiththerequiredangle

adjustedusingtherearriggingpointswhichallowanglesfrom0.5°to7.5°.



Thecabinetsarejoinedusingmachinedquick‐releasepins.Thesehavespringloadedballbearingsattheendofthepinwhich

protrudebeyondthe outerdiameterofthepin thuslockingthem inplace.To releasethem,thecentralbuttonis depressed

whilstpullingthepinclearusingthewideflange.Thisisbestdonewiththeforeand

indexfingerspullingthepinwhilstyour

thumbdepressesthecentralbutton,averyquickandeasyoperation.Whenusingthepinstolinkcabinets,thecentralbutton

mustagainbedepressedsothepincanbepushedintoposition.Itisimportanttocheckthatth

ecentralbuttondoesnotremain

depressedonceyouhaveputitinplaceasthiswouldindicatethatthepinhasnotbeenpushedallthewayintopositionandthe

ballbearingsattheendofthepinhavenotbeenabletopopoutandlockthepininplace.Ifthepinisnotlockedthearrayis

unsafe.ThepinMUSTbereposi

tioneduntilitissecurelylockedinplace.



TheMLAhasanimprovedfrontriggingbracketwithabarthatrunsthefullheightofthecabinet.Thispreventsthecabinets

collapsing

downoneachotherwherethereismoreweightsupportedontherearpoint;althoughthismayonlymakeadifference
