MechanicalInstallation
TheUHubisdesignedtobe mountedinastandard19”rackenclosure.
Wheretheprocessorisusedinafixedinstallation,aslongasthebottomunitissupportedandtherearenogapsbetweenunits,
itisacceptabletouseonlythefrontpanel19”rackholes
whenfittingitinastandardrackenclosure.IftheUHubismountedin
a mobile rack it is important that the rear or sides are supported with a suitable rack support bracket. Damage caused by
insufficientsupportisnotcoveredbythewarranty.
Topreventdamagetothefront
panelitisrecommendedthatplasticcupsorwashersarefittedunder neaththerackmounting
boltheads.
ItispossibletousetheUHubwithoutventilationgaps betweenotherrackproductsaslongastherearenoproductswhic h
generate extreme high temperatures, Amplifiers for example. If UHubs
are in the same rack it is essential that adequate
measuresforcoolingareprovidedinaccordancewiththeAmplifiermanufacturersguidelines.Thisshouldensureaminimumof
heattransfertotheUHub.

 

UNetisrunasaredundantloop,allUNetenabledproductshavetwoports.Port1ontheU
Hubwouldbeconnectedtoport1
onthefirstdevice,port2onthisdevicewouldlinkouttothenextdeviceandsoonwithafinallinkbacktoport2ontheUHub
to complete the loop. This allows the system to continue working seamlessly in
the event of a cable being damaged or
inadvertentlydisconnected.Datawillsimplyflowintheoppositedirectiontoallowcontinuouscommunication.
Audioconnectionsarecombinedwiththenetworkfeeds.Audioinput1isconnectedtoapairofspareconnectionsintheUNet
port1ODU.Thiswould
usuallybeusedasthe“send”tothefirstarray.Areturnfromthe arraywouldbeconnectedtothefirst
linkinconnection.Audio2iscombinedwiththesecondODUinthelinkedpairallowingaudiotobefedtoasecondarray,aside
hangforexample.The
networkreturnfromthisarraycomesbacktothesecondlinkin.Audio3isconnectedtothelinkoutof
thispairandcanbeusedtorouteouttoathirdarraysuchasthesubwooferstack.Finally,theUNetreturnfromthesubsis
connected
toUNetport2ontheUHubtocompletetheloop.

Thefirstoftheseiscombinedonto
theUNetPort1whichisconnectedtothefirstcabinetofthemainarrayviaaPWAXXXXXU
NettoUNet+AudioadaptorwhichsplitsthefeedfromtheUNetcabletoaUNetonlycableandanAESspecaudiocable

standard3pinXLR.TheXLRisconnectedtotheaudioinput.Theaudioisdaisychainedbetweencabinetsusing
standardaudiolinkcables.
WhenthefinalnetworkcableisroutedbacktotheUHubitisterminatedusingthefirstofthelinkpairs.Thelinkpairslink
the
networkconnections(firsttwotwistedpairs)butNOTtheaudiomeaningthatthelinkoutcanbeusedtorouteacompletely
independentaudiofeedconnectedtotheAudio2inputuptothesidehanginthesameway.
Thereturnfromthesidehanggoestothesecond
linkpairinputwiththeoutputalsocarryingaudioinput3tofeedthesubarray. 

TheHOT,+or‘inphase’connectionshouldbemadetopin2oftheXLRconnector.

UHubfeaturesa standard RJ45Ethernetport on the rearpanel using a NeutrikEthercon connector. Thisis wired using the
standardEthernetwiringprotocolsoanyofftheshelfCAT5EorbetternetworkcablecanbeusedtoconnecttheUHubtoyour
Ethernetnetwork.
Therearetwo

1. Power Inlet‐ The unit should be connected to a suitable mains electricitysupply using a
standard IEC power lead. The device has a switch mode power supply that is capable of
operatingwithanominalmainsvoltageof100Vto230V,50/60Hzwithoutreconfiguration.
TheIECconnectorshould
becompatiblewiththeretentionclipsoitcanbesecuredwiththe
cliptoensuretheconnectorcannotaccidentallydisconnect.

IPSelection
The UHub can communicate over the ethernet network which has been configured for static or dynamic IP. The default is
dynamicIPwherethenetworkhasaDHCPservertoassignindividualIPaddressestoallnodesdetectedonthenetwork.Thisis
extremelystraightforwardforaplugandplay
systemwhichiswhyDomesticroutersareconfiguredtoactasaDHCPserverby
default.Static IPremoves therequirement fora DHCPserveronthenetworkso isfrequentlythechoicefor moreadva nced
systems.
TheUHubcanbeconfiguredforStaticIP,there aretwomethods
toenablethis.Youwillneedtoknowtherangeforallother
productsonthenetworkandassignanIPaddresswrithingthesamerangebutwithanaddressuniquetotheUHub.
You can select the default Static IP address by using the IP Reset switch on the
front panel. Press and hold the switch for
approximately3secondsandtheUHubwillbe settoStaticIPwithanaddressof169.254.19.71.Thedefaultaddressgivesyou
theflexibilitytoconnecttotheUHubwithouthavingtoadjustyourPCLANsettings,ifthePC
isindynamicmodeitwillself
assign a link local address in the 169.254.xxx.xxx domain. If your network is configured for static mode, the UHub will be
immediatelydiscoverableaslongasyournetworkisinthe169.254.xxx.xxxrangeandaslongasthereisn’tanotherdevicewith
the
sameIP.TheprincipalintentionofthismodeistogiveyouimmediateconnectiontotheUHub,soyoucanchangetheIPto
anumberofyourchoice
YoucanalsochangetheIPmodeviaVuNet(SeetheVuNetchapter)usingtherightclickmenu.
Notethatifyouareinthe
defaultdynamicmodeandyou changetoastaticIPaddressoutsidethe169.254.xxx.xxxrangeyouwillloseconnectionwiththe
UHubuntilyoureconfigureyourPCtostaticmode inthesamerange.
Whenthe UHubhasbeensettostatic
IP,eithermanuallyorusingthedefaultstaticIPmode,theStaticIPfrontpanelLEDwill
illuminateyellow.
IPReset
IfaUHubhasbeenpreviouslyconfiguredforstaticIPitcanquicklybesettodynamicusingtheIPresetswitch.Theresetisa
recessedfrontpanelswitchashortpresswillreturntheUHubtodynamicIPconfiguration.ItcanthenbediscoveredviaVuNet
usingDeviceDiscovery,seetheVuNetchapterformoredetails.

