Lithonia Lighting VT5RT is a Class R Type ll Retrofit Kit that can be used to convert existing fluorescent lighting fixtures into energy-efficient LED fixtures.

This retrofit kit includes all the necessary components to convert a 2- or 4-lamp T8 or T5 fluorescent fixture to a single-lamp LED fixture, including a new LED light engine, ballast, and mounting hardware.

The VT5RT is designed for use in dry or damp locations and can be used in a variety of applications, including offices, schools, hospitals, and retail stores.

This retrofit kit will consist of:
(2) Lower end brackets (Note: Paint color depends on specific kit ordered. 2VT_R kits black; 2VT_RT kits white)
(1) Prewired electrical assembly with upper lamp holder brackets, lamp holders, ballast, and ballast disconnect
(1) Reflector
(1) Doorframe / trim / refractor assembly
(1) Hardware pack containing self-drilling tek screws, serrated washer head screws, and self-adhesive wire guides
(Job packs will have bulk-packed hardware with each pallet)
Note: 2VT_RT kits will also include (2) white molded trim strips shown below. Trim strips are not needed and are
not included in 2VT_R kits.
This kit is approved for installation in luminaires with steel housing construction (not aluminum),
having the dimensions shown, in dry or damp locations.
This kit is approved for use in air handling luminaires when the
intended air path is along the

Step One:
Locate the fluorescent lighting fixture that is to be retrofitted. Turn off power.
WARNING: Electrical shock can occur during retrofit component installation if power is not turned off.
WARNING: Installation of this retrofit assembly requires a person familiar with the construction and operation of
fluorescent luminaire electrical systems and the hazards involved.
WARNING: Unless otherwise instructed, do not make or alter any opening in the wiring compartment or any
electrical components during the installation of this retrofit assembly.
WARNING: Ensure that existing fixture is and remains properly connected to building ground. Use of any other
than the Lithonia Lighting supplied screws to install assembly may result in ungrounded fixture components.
Remove louver or doorframe from existing fixture. Remove lamps and set aside to be recycled. Remove existing
ballast cover.
Identify power supply wires to disconnect. Clip wire and prepare for conection to ballast disconnect.
Remove ballast, lamp holder brackets, and lamp leads as necessary to provide adequate clearance for kit
installation.
Recycle or properly dispose of all components removed from host fixture.
Step Two:
Install ballast / electrical assembly into existing
housing using provided tek screws.
NOTE: Install ballast as close as possible to edge
of channel flat to allow adequate clearance for
reflector. Upper end brackets hang freely during
ballast installation. See page 2

Step Three:
Assemble upper and lower end brackets. (See image)
Install assembled end brackets by sliding lower end
bracket flange between T-grid and lower frame of host
fixture, sliding back until assembly seats firmly against
host fixture end plate. Use provided tek screws to secure
end bracket assembly into position.
Complete wiring by inserting supply wires
into provided ballast disconnect. Use wire
management clip to position wires.

Step Four:
Install reflector:
Bend upper end bracket tabs down approximately 30° at one end as shown in detail A. Bend tabs
down 90° at opposite end. Place reflector inside of housing. Engage the reflector end with narrow
notches under the 30° bent tabs as shown in detail B. Rotate reflector into final position on the end
with the 90°
bent tabs and bend tabs up, temporarily securing reflector. Use provided serrated washer head
screws (4)
to permanently attach the reflector. Install lamps.

Step Five:
The trim assembly hinges and latches from either
side . Slide corner hinge into the slot in one if the
end brackets and repeat on opposite end.
Close door and rotate cam latches into cam latch
receiving slot. Verify cam latches are properly engaged
and door is secure
Optional Step to Install Trim Kits (lensed troffer application):
The 2VT8RT / 2VT5RT Relight Assembly is shipped with two flexible reveal cover trim pieces. Some
installations in existing lensed troffers can leave unsightly gaps between the side rail of the Relight door frames
and the existing housing, which can leave old hinge and latch points exposed. The trim kit is designed to cover
these to insure an attractive installation.
To install, slide the ends of the trim piece under the Relight end brackets as shown in in the photo. When they
are fully in place, slide the notch of the trim piece towards the end bracket to fully seat the part. The part is
flexible so this step can typically be completed either before or after full installation of the Relight assembly.
