2.1 Blend Plate Motorization description
Description
Blend Plate Motorization allows for a blend plate or compatible lter to be moved in or moved ou t of the optical path between projector
and screen.
The Blend Plate Motorization cons ists of a motorized me chanical frame to which a standard Barco blend plate or 3D lter can be
xed.
The Blend Plate Motorization k its com e in two different versions: Landscape mo de (R989 82425) and Portrait mode (R98982426).
The landscape mo de version is compatible with the standard OS EM frame (R9898242 1) for static installation.
Depending on the Blend P late Motorization version, yo ur Blend Plate Mo
torization might look slightly different
from som e of the graphics used in this man ual. This however, does not have any effect on the functionality.
The d ifferences b etween both Blend Plate M otorization versions (landscape mode and portrait mo de) are illus-
trated throug h grap hics and/or con tent. If no version is specied in a procedure, it applies to both versions.
If a procedure applies to one version only, it is explicitly stated.

About this chapter
After unpacking the kit, the B lend Plate Motorization must be mechanically xed and electrically con nected. Then, the correct lter
must be installed in the frame and nally this lter mus t be me chanically aligned. Each of these procedures is described in detail in
this chapter.

3. Installation of the Blend Plate Motorization
3.2 Insta lling the Blend Plate Motorization
Introduction
The way to install the Blend Plate Motorization kit mainly depends on the dis play system. For this reason, three procedures are
listed below:
Installation on a standard OSE M (R98982421)frame;
Installation if no standard OSEM frame is available;
Additional xa tion in case of motion based application.
Installation on a standard OSEM frame
The procedure b elow applies to the Blen d P late Motorization Land scape version only.
1. Remove the blend frame (label A) from the standard O SEM frame (label C).

3. Installation of the Blend Plate Motorization
Installation if no standard OSEM frame is av ailable
It is required that the blend plate position in front of the p rojection lens is adjustable in six degrees of freedom (x, y, z, he ad, p itch,
roll) to align it to the projected light beam. Therefore the mechanical structure of the projector support must be extended with proles
(called “supports” in the procedure below) that are fully adjustable. If the B lend Plate Motorization is used with 3D lter ins tead of
blend p late, there is only this restriction: it s hould be po sitioned perpendicular to the light b eam.
1. Extend the existing me chanical s tructure with adjustable supports having four holes.
2. Fix the Blend P late Motorization kit to the adjustable supports using suitable bolts (M4), washers and n uts.

Additional xation in c ase of motion based applications
This additional xation (2 points) ha s to be done next to the s tandard xation (four points see above). It is required to have proles
that are adjustable in six degrees of freedom (x, y, z, head, p itch and roll) again.
1. Extend the existing m echanical structure with adjustable s upports having two holes.
2. Fix the Blend P late Motorization to the adjustable supports u sing two suitable bolts (M4), wash ers and nuts.
Tip: For dimensions, see the Appendix.

Note: This setup has been successfully passed a 3G peak 5–30Hz sine test and a 0.5Grms ( 5–1000Hz) random vibration t est
in both X /Y/Z axes.
3.3 Connecting the Blend Plate Motorization
The USB interfaces of the Blend Plate Motorization are bus pow ered ; com mu nication is therefore possib le as
soon as the USB connection is made, even if the DC power plugs are not connected. In the latter case it is
clear that the mo tors cannot b e actuated.
CAUTION: In the case where the Blend Plate Motorizations are co ntrolled by a customer made executable,
the US B con nection to the controlling compu ter may only be established after the FTDI driver is installed on
that comp uter. Also see "Control of the Blend P late Motorization without XDS RACU", page 18.
Connecting the Blend P late Motorization
1. Connect the pow er cord ( power plug label B) and the US B cord (USB type B plug label C) to t he Blend Plate Motorization.

2. Use a cable tie to x both cords to the provided xation point (label A on image 3-1 2 and image 3-13) in the way as visualized
on image 3-14 and image 3-15.
- This pr events the cords from accidently being unplugged;
- This prevents u nintentional disconnection in case of motion bas ed platforms;
- It still allows to quickly unp lug t he po wer cord incase of em ergency.

3. Installation of the Blend Plate Motorization
- to t he USB slot on the MCU ( if X DS RACU is available)
- or, to the USB slot on the computer that runs the customer-programmed con trol software.
Note: It is allowed to use a U S B hub to connect m ultiple Blend Plate Motorizations at the same time.
4. Connect the power cord (C13 plug) to the external power supply.
5. Connect the external power supply to the mains socket.
Caution: The mains socket must be installed near the Blend Plate Motorization and must be easily acc essible.
3.4 Aligning the Blend Plate Motorization
WARNING: Make sure not to m ove the lter into or out of the light path while aligning the Blend Plate Motor-
ization. For safety reasons, it should rem ain in t he selected p osition during t he full proced ure.
Introduction
Depending on the lter blend plate or 3 D lter the alignment is more or less critical. In case of blend plates, the Blend Plate
Motorization should have six degrees of freedom (x, y, z, head, pitch and roll), whereas in the case of 3D lters, the only restriction
is that the lter is positioned per pendicular to the projection light beam.
Aligning the Blend Plate Motorization with blend plate
It is assumed that the Blend Plate Motorization is in the position w here the blend plate has moved into the light path.
1. Align the y and z position in a way that the light beam hits the center of the lter ( = blend plate or 3D lter).

2. Align the x pos ition in a way that the light spot on the lter has the required size. A typical value is 18 cm wide.
3. Adjust the head and pitch to pos ition the lter perpendicular to the light beam.
4. Match the roll of the lter to the position o f the projector
