OPERATION OF AIR HANDLING UNITS
AND ACCESSORIES
WARNING
Before taking the air handling unit into
operation fit any unused connections with
protective mesh.
In addition, all electrotechnical and me-
chanical safety devices must be
installed before taking the air handling
unit into operation.
– Before opening the unit check that its power has been
disconnected.
– Take care when opening the isolating valves for the hot
water to the air heater. There is a risk of water hammer
or steam discharge.
– When servicing or inspecting the unit, turn off the
safety switch before opening the inspection doors.
Reset all safety devices before restarting.
– The clearance in front of electric heaters and electrical
cabinets shall conform to applicable electrical safety
regulations.
– Use the control panel to stop the unit.
– The unit’s hatches are fitted with locking handles.
Ensure that the unit is always left locked, and that the
keys cannot be accessed by unauthorized persons.
– Do not open inspection hatches when the unit is in
operation.
– Use protective gloves during installation and service.
1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Installation may only be
carried out by qualified personnel.
VDI 6022
eCO TOP is designed in accordance
to hygiene standard VDI 6022 and
is easy to clean with no place where dirt can accumulate. Non-
metallic part, have been chosen as proven free of micro bacterial
or mold growth.
Following the VDI 6022, AHU should ensure a physiologically
favourable indoor climate and a hygienically perfect indoor air
quality.
The eCO TOP is designed in order, not to endanger health, not to
disturb the condition and the thermal comfort, not to lead to odour
nuisance and to prevent exposure and impact of inorganic and
organic pollutants.
The casing is approved for T2 / TB2.

COMPONENTS
The unit can be supplied in left-hand or right-hand configurations.
Refer to the order code in Technical catalogue.
2. DESCRIPTION OF THE UNIT
FANS
The unit has two plug fans with EC motors.
PLATE HEAT EXCHANGER
Counterflow plate heat exchanger with bypass damper.
FILTER
Bag filter class (F7) ePM1 50% on both outdoor and extract air.
POST HEATER, HOT WATER
Hot water coil containing copper tubes and aluminum fins. Pipe
connection Ø 12 mm. Freeze protection temperature sensor or
freeze protection thermostat is included.
POST HEATER, ELECTRICAL
The heater for size 03 and 04 is built-in. For size 06 the heater is
duct mounted.
CONTROL SYSTEM
The ISYteq control system is integrated with the unit and is ready
for use with a large number of functions.
INTERNAL SILENCER (ACCESSORY)
An internal silencer can be fitted in the supply air inside the unit.

SOUND TRANSMISSION
When a unit is positioned next to a wall, low frequency sound can
generate vibrations in the wall, even if the sound level from the
unit is acceptable. Generally the unit should be positioned against
a wall to a room that is not sensitive for noise. When this is not
possible the unit should be positioned 400-500 mm from the wall.
Duct lead-through must be designed with care so that rigid con-
nections between the duct and wall do not occur. In addition, the
seal around the duct must be carefully installed to prevent the
transmission of noise to areas. For sensitive installations it may
be a good idea to connect ducts using flexible connections.
If the floor structure is weak, noise can be transmitted to other
areas in the building. Use of a heavy insulating mat can prevent
that problem.
TRANSPORT
Use a fork lift truck, pallet truck or platform trolley for transport on
site. The unit can be lifted from the front or from the side.
To move size 06 through a 900 mm opening remove the door and
the center strut. See section 12.3.

SPACE REQUIREMENTS
Make sure that it is enough space around the unit for routine
service work, such as replacing filters and cleaning the fan and
casing.
Consideration has to be taken for future replacement of
com ponents.
PLACEMENT
The unit can be placed directly onto the surface if this is flat and
horizontal, otherwise use adjustable feet.

4. CONNECTIONS
4.1 DUCT CONNECTIONS
Size 03 (Ø250 mm) and 04 (Ø315 mm) have circular duct connec-
tions. Size 06 has rectangular duct connections (600 x 300 mm).
4.2 POST HEATER, ELECTRICAL
The electrical post heater for size 06 is duct mounted, see sepa-
rate instruction.
4.3 POST HEATER, HOT WATER
Connect the pipes for the heating coil inside the unit according to
pictures below. View from top.
NOTE! To avoid freezing the temperatures for frost
protection must not be set too low. If the building
has to be left unheated for long periods during
winter, the water must be drained from both the
pipework and the heating coil.
WARNING! Wear protective gloves
when using a fin comb.
Warning - hot water!!
FläktGroup takes no responsibility neither for
the connection of air heaters to the heating
system, nor for damage or injury caused by
incorrect planning, installation or maintenance
of this system. Pipework, valves etc. are to be
designed due to pressure drop and function, not
the dimensions of the air heater connections. The
weight of the pipe work system with components
must not lay weight on the water coil.

PREVENTING FREEZING
There is a risk of freezing in the hot water coil at low outdoor
temperatures. This can cause water damage. The risk can
appear:
1. if the temperature of the water is too high. The risk increases
in spring and autumn. Adjust the water temperature in relation
to the outdoor air temperature.
2. if the post heater is oversized. Decrease the temperature of
the water to increase the water flow.
FINS
Any deformed fins can be adjusted using fin comb EQAZ-14.
Pipe connections. Freeze protection sensor is factory mounted on the outlet
pipe of the coil. Right hand version shown.
VENTING
The air must be properly vented from the system to ensure good
function. The venting is made through the pipe system.

When installing a 3-way valve check as follows:

4.6 DAMPER
Duct mounted damper with a spring return on/off actuator. The
actuator has to be connected to the terminal block in the electri-
cal cabinet. Size 03 and 04 have circular duct connections and
size 06 has rectangular. The damper is designed for duct insula-
tion of up to 50 mm.
4.7 SILENCER, DUCT MOUNTED
Size 03 and 04 have circular duct connections and size 06 has
rectangular. Fire resistance rating EI30. The distance to the fan
has to be at least 300 mm.
4. CONNECTIONS
4.4 COOLING COIL, WATER
The cooling coils have circular duct connections with rubber
ring seals. For size 06 a converter from rectangular to circular
is available as an accessory (RDTZ-24). The cooler has to be
installed horizontally and the distance to nearest bend has to be
at least 600 mm. Venting and draining is carried out via the pipe
system. The pipe connection, Ø 22 mm, is located on the outlet
end, is smooth and is intended for a compression fitting. The
drainage tray is in stainless steel and has an R 1/2” connection.
Maximum operating pressure 1.0 MPa and maximum operating
temperature 150° C.
4.5 VALVE AND VALVE ACTUATOR
ACTUATORS FOR HEATING AND COOLING
Connected to terminal in electrical cabinet. Stroke length 5.5 mm.
Intended for assembly on 2-way and 3-way valves of the type
VVG44 or VXG44.
ACCEPTED INSTALLATION METHODS
VALVE FOR HEATING AND COOLING
The valve and valve actuator can be easily installed without
special tools. A particle filter should be fitted before the valve to
extend its service life.
2-WAY VALVE VVG
The flow is increased by turning the spindle inwards, the flow is
reduced by moving the spindle outwards. Note that the 2-way
valve cannot be used as a 3-way valve.
The flow direction is indicated by an arrow.
ACCEPTED INSTALLATION METHODS

The bypass is closed by turning the spindle inwards, the bypass
is opened by turning the spindle outwards.

Units with built-in electrical heater, main supply

Units with hot water coil can be supplied with
1x230 VAC ±10%+N+PE, 50Hz.
Units with duct mounted electrical heater can be supplied with
1x230 VAC ±10%+N+PE, 50Hz.
Units are not available for 3x230 VAC ±10%+N+PE, 50Hz.
Connect main supply to terminals U, V, W, N and PE, located on
the control plate.
The cables on the outdoor unit must enter the flange from below.
Maximum external fuse is 16A.
To be able to make the entire unit power less, an external safety
switch must be installed on main supply.

6.6 TEMPERATURE SENSORS
The unit is provided with:
- Supply air sensor located at supply air spigot.
- Outdoor air sensor located at outdoor air spigot.
- When using cooling coil or duct mounted post heater a supply
temperature sensor is supplied for duct mounting.
The unit-mounted supply temperature sensor is then used to
measure the temperature before heaters or coolers.
- Room sensor is supplied when the unit is configured for room
temperature control. The unit-mounted extract temperarure
sensor is used for various functions depending on the
configuration of the unit.
- The room sensor is intended for wall mounting and needs to
have good air circulation and not direct sun light. Cable is not
included.
- When using preheater or customer chosen, a facade
temperature sensor is supplied.
6.7 HUMIDITY SENSORS
Room sensor is supplied when the unit is configured for room
humidity control. The sensor measures also temperature and its
configured as shown below.
6.8 PRESSURE SENSORS
When configured for pressure control, two pressure sensors for
duct mounting are supplied.

The sensors must be zeroed during commissioning. They should
then be zeroed annually. The sensors should have been energized
for approximately one hour before calibration is carried out. After
that, remove the hoses from the sensors. To start calibration,
press the push-button next to the pressure range jumpers. The
red LED lights up and goes out after about a second. Reassemble
the air hoses.

6. CONNECTION OF EXTERNAL COMPONENTS
6.9 AIR QUALITY SENSORS
Instead of external supply air duct pressure sensor an air quality
sensor can be connected to either measure the CO
2
or VOC.
6.10 EXTERNAL CONTROL/EXTENDED FUNCTIONS
The unit can be controlled by an external source, e.g. push but-
tons to activate profiles and profile bypasses. External control
inputs can also be used to vary fan speed from a remote source.
For configuration see chapter 9, control functions.
If configured, External Stop is a NC circuit which lets the unit
operate according to the current profile number. If the contact is
open, the unit is switched off and a message is shown on the
HMI.
External Control contacts are used as
1. NO circuits activating configured profiles with Ext. Control 1
being low and Ext. Control 2 high priority.
2. Push button circuits activating a profile bypass for a configured

Please note that only two functions can be configured at the

6.11 FIRE PROTECTION FUNCTION
Two external fire alarms can be connected to the unit to stop it in
case of fire by using universal analogue inputs. Smoke detectors
and fire dampers cannot be connected directly to the air handling
unit, a separate fire system is needed.
Several functions which are activated if fire alarm is triggered
can be implemented. Therefor the fan speeds can be set inde-
pendently or completely stopped if needed.
6.12 SUMMARY ALARM
There are two separate alarm outputs for indicating A- and
B-alarms. Both can be connected as either NO or NC potential
free contacts.

STARTING THE UNIT
When the electrical connections are made and all the accesso-
ries are mounted the unit is ready to start up.
1. Turn the safety switch to 1 (ON).
2. Start the unit (see chapter 8).

Check that all dampers opens and closes correctly.

Check that valve actuators for heating and cooling works correctly.

The measuring pressure, Dpm, is the difference between the
pressure in the empty section at the fan inlet and the pressure
inside the inlet cone. A manometer (RDTZ-56) can be connected
to view the measuring pressure. This is used as a reference for
monitoring the unit. Connect hoses with 4 mm diameter between
the nipples on the top of the unit and the manometer, see Fig. 1.
If the unit is supplied with Constant Air Volume control the air
flow can be read in the control panel.

8.1 GENERAL
HMI
This section introduces the touchscreen control panel and the
web configurator, also known as the ‘Human Machine Interface’,
or simply HMI.
The HMI serves two main purposes: To provide information about
the current operational state of the unit. To allow the unit to be
setup and configured.
TOUCH SCREEN TIPS
To select an item, touch the centre of the icon or option. Do not
press too hard, the touch screen is sensitive enough to pick up
light, firm touches. Use the tip of your finger or the back of a pen-
cil to touch the required option. Be careful not to touch any other
options.
CLEANING THE SCREEN
Disconnect the power cord (this is in most cases the ethernet
which provides PoE). Gently wipe the screen with a soft, dry
non-abrasive cloth. If the marks remain, moisten the cloth slightly
with a detergent that is designed for touchscreens and wipe the
screen gently from top to bottom. Never use other detergents, as
these may contain ammonia or other additives.
IMPORTANT:
• Never spray or pour liquids directly on to the screen.
• Do not clean the screen while the system is on.
CONVENTIONS USED WITHIN THIS MANUAL
The following buttons and symbols are universal and available on
many menu pages.
Use the wheel to change any time
settings.
Home button, leads back to highest menu of
current view.
Time schedules, edit profile switching times
and summer/winter changeover.
Down button, scroll down the menu bar.

Trend logs, view and export sensor and actua-

Operating data, configure assemblies, control
functions and operations. Available with Opera-
tor rights or higher.
Settings, configure general device and user set-
tings. Main settings of the device for communi-
cation, User, Hardware and Diagnosis.
Active alarms, recognize and acknowledge
alarms. Press this symbol if it indicates alarms
with a red marker (also indicating number of
alarms). Critical errors, marked red, will stop
the unit, while non-critical will still appear but
will not stop the unit from its normal function
(marked orange).
Tile menu, overview of setpoints and actual
values. Easy and quick setting of setpoints and
control types.
User login, higher access rights available. This
will offer more screens, configurations and set-
tings if access rights are high enough.
Use the calendar to change any date
settings.

8.2 COMMISSIONING, SETUPWIZARD
The Setup wizard can be run on the touch display or via a web
browser on a computer with Ethernet connection to the unit. Type
the IP address 192.168.0.1 in the address bar of the web browser.
TO LOG IN AND SELECT LANGUAGE
• Enter user name ”Admin” and password ”Admin” and select
”LOGIN”.
If the entered information is incorrect, a notification appears. If the
entered information is correct, the Setup wizard starts.
TO NAVIGATE THE SETUP WIZARD
At the bottom of the screen there are four navigation buttons.

• To confirm all settings in the current step of the Setup wizard
and go to the next step, select save (A).
• To skip to the next step in the Setup wizard without saving any
changed settings, select skip (B). It is recommended to use the
skip function if you want to use the preconfigured settings and
be sure that you do not change anything.
• To cancel the changes made in the current step of the Setup
wizard and restore the previous settings, select cancel (C).
• As you go through the Setup wizard, the headings in the list
on the left side of the screen become green. To go back and
change already made settings, select a green heading.
• To exit the Setup Wizard, select exit (D).
LANGUAGE SETTINGS
• Select a flag to select the corresponding language and select
save to go to the next step.

This step in the Setup wizard lets you select and configure the
components that are installed in the unit. The first tab (A) is
selected automatically. To move between the tabs, select save or
skip. Tabs with completed settings become a darker color. Click a
completed tab to go back and change already made settings.
1. Select the correct sensor settings from each dropdown
menu.
2. Click the pencil icons (B) to do additional settings for those
sensors.
Note: If you continue the Setup wizard without selecting the
pencil icons and changing the settings, the default settings from
the factory are used. When there are pencil icons in the Setup
wizard, always select the pencil icons and make sure that you
have the correct settings.
3. Select save or skip to go to the next tab, (C), to configure
external controls such as push buttons or similar devices.
External controls can trigger a single command like a profile
bypass or alarm.
a. Select the pencil icon for additional settings. For example,
you can set a bypass timer or change the notification class
and the alarm text of an external alarm input.
4. Select save or skip to go to the next tab, (D), to adjust the
settings for the coils.
a. Select the dropdown menu to select the type of coil.
b. Select the pencil icon to do additional settings for the
selected coil.
5. Select save or skip to go to the next tab, (E), to configure
one or two fire inputs and up to three scenarios for what will
happen if one or both input sensors are triggered.
6. Select save. There is no option to skip to the next step.

CONTROL SETTINGS
1. Select the dropdown menus and select the correct
alternatives for your unit regarding supply- and extract fan
controls and temperature, humidity and air quality controls.
2. Select save.

EDIT PROFILES
You can configure up to five profiles. There are separate profiles
for Boost and Standby/Off. You can create individual time
schedules for each profile.
• You can change the name on all profiles except the Boost
profile. The Boost profile starts the unit before the set start time
to make sure that the temperature is correct at the start time.
• It is necessary to have a profile for night operation. In the night
profile, set the temperature control mode to Nightpurge and
select to enable the unit via temperature control.
• The profile tab on the far right is for Standby/Off. To activate
room frost protection for Standby/Off, select to enable the unit
via temperature control.
1. Configure the profiles as is necessary for your unit
application.
2. Select save.
UNIT OPERATION SCHEDULER
This step lets you create a weekly schedule where you can select
different profiles for different time periods. The profile for unit off is
applied to the whole week until you add other profiles.
1. Select the week day for which you want to add a profile. A
popup with three icons appear.

2. To edit an already added profile, select that profile. A popup

This step lets you configure how the unit starts depending if it
is summer or winter. You can set the temperature threshold, the
startup delays and the damper delay. Make sure that the settings
are correct for the local weather conditions.
• When the start up settings are finished, select save.
• If you are not sure how to do these settings correctly, select
skip.
TO SET DEFAULT PAGE AND FINISH THE SETUP WIZARD
1. Select Control schematics or Dashboard to select the default
page for the user interface.
2. Select save. A notification asks you to restart the unit to
apply all settings.
3. Select save to restart the unit and load the selected default
page.

8.3 HOME SCREEN
It comes in handy to have the tile menu set as home screen
as setpoints can be easily edited here. Nevertheless, also the
flow chart of the system could be the default page so note that
following descriptions are related to tile menu. From the Home
screen it is possible to determine how the unit is operating as
well as navigating to further screens, from which additional needs
can be configured.
BASIC FUNCTIONS
The following figures show the basic settings a user can control
from the tile menu if he is logged into an account with Operator or
Admin rights. Rectangle tiles shown in this description will further
be categorized as control tiles, while square tiles will be called
auxiliary tiles.
Setpoint for supply air volume flow/pressure. Also displays
current air volume flow/pressure and fan control loop. Press to
change setpoint manually.
Setpoint for extract air volume flow. Also displays current air
volume flow and fan output signal. Press to change setpoint
manually.
Setpoint for temperature control. Also displays current
temperature. Depending on configuration this view might change
(e.g. separate setpoints for heating and cooling). Also shows
the control type at which temperature the unit is controlling (e.g.
extract air).
Controller mode. Can be set to only heating/cooling, night purge
or automatic. Automatic will react to profile and summer/winter
changeover settings.
Current active profile. Also displays next switch in time schedule
and corresponding profile. Set to automatic to use time schedule
or select a profile manually.
Setpoint for humidity control. Also displays current humidity.
Depending on configuration this view might change.
Setpoint for outdoor air amount (damper state). Also displays
current value. Depending on configuration this may react to air
quality.
Setpoint for air quality. Also displays current air quality. Depending
on configuration this can be active or passive control.

Bypass current profile for a certain number of minutes by another
profile.
Change configuration of profiles. Unit needs a switch of profile
before applying changes to current operating profile.
The home screen will always contain at least 3x3 tiles. If the
configuration doesn’t include enough settings this tile will be used
as a placeholder.
CHANGING CONTROL TILE VALUES
To change the basic settings mentioned above there can be two
different ways. Press a control tile and one of the following menus
show up.
Setpoints are changed by using the control wheel, which can
easily be dragged to the desired value. Also, the up and down
arrows allow accurate setting by predefined steps. The amount
of each step depends on the control value that is edited (e.g. air
volume flow steps are 100 m³/h, regarding this is the determined
unit for air volume flow).
Control types are changed by using an option dialog, from which
the user can choose a preconfigured number of behaviours.
USING AUXILIARY TILES
Auxiliary tiles do not allow individual changes to the current
operation of the unit but most of them have a temporary or
permanent effect on its behaviour.
Profile bypass Allows to run another profile for up to 60 min
(5 min steps) and switching automatically back
to time scheduled profile afterwards.
Edit profiles Change profile settings as shown before in the
SetupWizard.

8.4 TIME AND DATE, LANGUAGE, BASIC SETTINGS
If you want to change time and date, language and basic settings
as shown in the SetupWizard there are two ways of doing so.
First way is easy but limited in possibilities of detailed settings.
1. Log into an account at Operator level or higher.
2. Press the Settings button in the menu bar.
3. Select Configuration.
4. Run the SetupWizard again by using the description above.
The second way will not lead through each desired setting but
allows additional detailed settings.
TIME AND DATE, LANGUAGE
1. Log into an account with admin rights
2. Press the Settings button in the menu bar.
3. Select Configuration.
4. Press Device.
5. In this menu you can set Device information, language,
synchronize time with your pc or an interface and change
web configuration.

5. In this menu you have the possibility to change the settings
of several protocols/interfaces such as TCP/IP, Modbus,
BACnet, Fieldbus and RS485.
USER SETTINGS
1. Log into an account with admin rights
2. Press the Settings button in the menu bar.
3. Select Configuration.
4. Press User.
5. In this menu you can change user settings of lower or equal
access level and edit your own user account by changing to
the next tab.
CONTROL TYPES
See chapter 9 for detailed information about configuration of
control functions.
TIME SCHEDULE
1. Log into an account with admin rights
2. Press the Time Schedule button in the menu bar. Depending
on your HMI and the screen size it might be necessary to use
the Down button.
3. Select Unit Operation Mode Schedular with the symbol on the
right to open another window. In the web HMI this may
require to manually allow a popup to open, depending on your
browser settings.
4. Configure the profile time schedule easily by clicking a period
and selecting the profile to be active. The following menu bar
will appear.
a. Press ‘+’ to add a new changeover at the point you clicked.
b. Press the pencil to edit the currently selected time schedule.
c. Press the two sheets to copy currently selected time
schedule to another day.
d. Press ‘-‘ to delete currently selected profile from the time
schedule.
e. Press the arrows to quickly change the start of currently
selected profile.
f. Press ‘x’ to close the menu bar.
5. Use the Exception tab to plan dates or even date ranges with
different behaviour to your normal time schedule.
6. Save your configuration with the green checkmark and close
the window with the red ‘x’.
7. Similar functions are available for a winter/summer
changeover by selecting Change Over Schedular in the Time
Schedule menu.

If an alarm occurs, it is indicated by a red marker at the alarms
symbol in the menu bar. Also, the number of alarms is displayed.
Pressing the alarm button leads to the alarms overview.
Select the blue info button on the right to see more details about
the alarm. Critical alarms automatically stop the unit until they are
fixed. If the issue is solved in alarms menu the error is scored out.
By clicking the checkbox of the alarm, you can now acknowledge
it, which sets the unit back to normal operation.
After solving and acknowledging all errors the alarms menu
should show no active alarm anymore.
