Grid Plus 1-10V Analogue
Dimming Controller for HF
Fluorescent Ballasts
Please keep this leaflet for future reference
APPLICATION
This product must only be connected to the Low Voltage, 1-
10V Control Terminals
of a compatible High Frequency
Dimmable Ballast. The ballast must be compatible with
variable resistor dimming control.
The minimum box depth required for this product is 40mm.
This product does not include a mains ON/OFF switch for
turning HF ballasts on or off. This must be achieved via a
separate, suitable mains rated switch.
This product must not be connected to the mains supply.
This product is not a tungsten lamp dimmer.

Available with appropriately finished knobs to suit different
front plate finishes in the MK ranges, e.g. Edge, Albany,
Chroma, Logic Plus, etc.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
This product is a low voltage controller and must not be
connected to the mains supply.
This pr
oduct must be installed by a competent person in
accordance with the current editions of the IEE Wiring
Regulations (BS7671) and Buildings Regulations. If in any
doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
To prevent electrocution, do not work on any appliance live.
Turn off the mains supply before commencing work.
If this product has a metal front plate it must be earthed.
To prevent fire hazard do not exceed the rated load
specified for the product.
Waste electrical products should not be disposed off with
the household waste. Please recycle where facilities exist.

INSTALLATION
To install this product in a MK Grid Plus System, please refer to
the Grid Plus System instruction leaflet.
1. Remove the knob from the shaft by gently pulling it away
from the controller (this is only necessary if using the
controller in Front Plates which are more than 2 Modules in
width).
2. Ensure that the Grid Plus Mounting Frame is installed into
the appropriate Mounting Box in accordance with sections
D1 to D5 of the Grid Plus System Instruction Leaflet.
NOTE: Minimum internal box depth required is 40mm.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
Use a 2 core cable for connections to the Dimming Controller,
as specified by the manufacturer of the High Frequency
Dimmable Fluorescent Ballast.
If the Dimming Controller is installed alongside a mains rated
switch to provide ON/OFF function for the HF Ballast, then the
insulation for the cable used to connect the Dimming
Controller must be rated for mains voltage.
CONNECTION TO A SINGLE BALLAST
Connect the terminal on the ballast marked + to terminal 1 of
the controller.
Connect the terminal on the ballast marked - to terminal 3 of
the controller. See fig. 1.
CONNECTION TO MULTIPLE BALLASTS
Depending on the ballast type, up to four ballasts can be
connected to this unit. See fig. 2.
Connecting more than four ballasts may limit the dimming action
to only the fully anticlockwise part of operation.
Connect the + terminals of the ballasts together, and connect
to terminals 1 and 2 of the controller, together.
Connect the - terminals of the ballasts together, and connect
to terminal 3 of the controller.
Do not mix + and – connections on the ballasts, or the circuit
will not function properly and the ballasts may be damaged.
MULTIPLE BALLASTS - ADJUSTMENT OF BEST FUNCTION
OF THE CONTROL KNOB
1. Turn the main control knob fully clockwise
2. Turn the preset control PR2 fully clockwise (see diagram on
page 6), using the trimming tool provided.

3. While observing the light output from the fluorescent lights,
slowly turn PR2 back anticlockwise until a slight reduction in
the light level is noticed. Turn PR2 back slightly. This is the
best setting position for the unit.
ADJUSTMENT FOR MINIMUM LIGHT OUTPUT
When the control knob is set to minimum, this unit is factory set
to produce a 1V level on a single ballast.
To increase the minimum light level, adjust the preset control
PR1 clockwise (see diagram on page 6), using the trimming
tool provided or anticlockwise, to reduce.
Excessive force can damage the preset controls. Adjust
car
efully and by using the tool provided.
