SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
This product must be installed by a competent person in
accordance with the current editions of the IEE Wiring
Regulations (BS7671) and Buildings Regulations. If in any
doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
The 3 Pole Fan Isolator can be installed in bathrooms,
but only under the strictest of conditions. It must be out
of reach of any person using the bath or shower.
For guidance see the current edition of the IEE wiring
regulations (BS 7671).
To prevent electrocution, do not work on any appliance
live. Switch off the mains supply before commencing work.
If this product has a metal front plate it must be earthed.
To prevent fire hazard do not exceed the rated current.
When mounted using a metal back box the following
minimum box depths should be used: -
With a front plate of 9mm depth or greater - 16mm.
With a front plate of less than 9mm depth - 35mm.
44966 PL Ed.2
The back box for products having front plates less than
9mm deep needs to be installed 6 to 10mm sub-flush to
the wall surface.
Product and packaging should be disposed of via
standard refuse facilities at the end of their life.
PRODUCT FEATURES
This product is intended for use with extractor fans with or
without a timer.
It enables the fan to be isolated and subsequently
disconnected for repair or maintenance.
The switch has provision for a locking device (K4858 if
bought separately) to ensure that it cannot be accidentally
switched back on.
When the switch is in the off position, a hole at each end of
the switch actuator is exposed (fig. 1). The lugs in the jaw of
the locking device must be fully engaged in the holes to
ensure correct operation and fitment of padlock (fig. 2).
INSTALLATION GUIDE
1. Some products have the fixing screws clipped to the rear
of the product. These should be unclipped.
2. If replacing an existing isolator unit, always take careful
note of the cables and any terminal markings there may be
before removing the old unit. This should make it far easier
to install the new product.
234
3. Strip back the outer sheath on both load and supply
cables, then trim wires to approximate length to allow
the cable ends to reach the terminals.
SUPPLY cables are those from the distribution board,
LOAD cables are those going to the fan.
4. Carefully strip back the inner insulation of all cables to
expose 8mm of the conductor.
5. If an earth lead is present, slide a length of green/yellow
sleeving onto the bare earth conductors.
6. Connect the cables to the correct terminals, as shown in
either Figure 3 or 4 as appropriate. It can be seen that
the main difference is dependent on the circuit having a
timer, but the circuit may also be with or without a lamp.
Please also ensure the circuit complies with that from the
fan manufacturer.
7. Please note; the colour codes used in the UK prior to
April 2004 are as follows:-

BLACK = terminal marked ‘N’

used are: -
8. A length of green/yellow sleeved wire must be
connected to the earth terminal in the mounting box.
9. Tighten all terminal screws securely.
10.Carefully push the wired unit back into the back box,
ensuring the cables are not trapped or pinched.
11.Using the fixing screws provided, mount the switch onto
the back box. Do not over tighten, so as to prevent
damage or distortion to the front plate. Adjust so the
front plate is square on the wall.
CLEANING FRONT PLATES
In order to protect the quality surface finish of the front
plate, periodically clean with a dry lint free soft cloth. On no
account should abrasive or domestic cleaners be used.
