Insulation Resistance Measurements
Measurements at 200MΩ/250V
This is the voltage used for the majority of insulation resistance tests on
normalinstallationrequirements.Tomeasureinsulationresistance,press
thetestbuttontoturnonthetester.
TheLCDwilldisplaytheinsulationresistance.SectionVIIindicatedthat
subdivisionoflargeinstallationsmightbenecessarybecauseofthelarge
numberofparallelinsulationresistance.Insuchacase,aninstallation
maybedividedintosections,eachbeingseparatelytested.Eachsection
musthaveatleastftyoutlets,anoutletbeingaswitch,socket,lighting
pointetc.Aswitchedsocketcountsasoneoutlet.Theminimumaccept-
ableinsulationresistanceis1MΩ.
Foralargeinstallation,thecapacitanceoftheinsulationwillbehigh,and
itwilltakelongerforittobecomechargedbythedirecttestingvoltage.
Becarefulnottotakeareadinguntilthereisasteadyreading,indicating
that the charging process is complete.
Note:Thechargestoredintheinsulationwillbedischargedautomatically
whenthetestbuttonisreleased.Becarefulnottoturntherangeswitch
knobwhilethetestbuttonispressed,ortheinstrumentwillbedamaged.
Measurements at 2000MΩ/1000V
Somespecicationsrequiretestingat1000V.Thisvoltagemustalsobe
selectedwherethesupplyvoltageoftheinstallationisbetween500Vand
1000V.First,settherangeswitchto1000Vandthenproceedasindicated
inabovefor500Vtesting.
