CONTENTS
The Observer Series Recorders consists of two (2) separate user guides:
1. Hardware User Guide
2. Configuration User Guide
This document is the Hardware User Guide. It provides wiring, installation, and components
description.
For system configuration, please refer to the Observer Series Configuration Guide.

Components
Front Panel
1 IR Remote Sensor The IR Remote Sensor receives
signals from the HVR Remote Control.
2 Status LEDs The Status LEDs illuminate to display
the current status of the HVR (see chart below).
3 USB Port Insert a USB flash drive to download events
quickly without having to remove the SD card or
hard drive, or upload firmware updates.
4 SIM Card Slot Not used.
5 Primary SD Card Slot Insert an SD card into the slot
until it clicks. To remove the SD card, briefly press it
in until it ejects.
6 Mirror/Secondary SD Card Slot This SD card can be
used for mirror recording or as a secondary storage
device once the primary SD card is full.

PWR DVR is receiving power
ERR Error may have occured

Rear Panel
1 WiFi Antenna Connector (SMA) Connection to an
external antenna for the internal WiFi module.
2 GPS Antenna Port Connection an external GPS
antenna.
3 A/V OUT Port Connection for optional CP4-series
monitors.
4 LAN Port Connection for IP cameras (requires external
POE switch or WiFi radio).
Default IP address: 192.168.1.100/10.100.100.1
5 Power Port Connection for the 41-PWRHRNS main
power harness.
6 AHD IN Port Connection for analog high definiton
(AHD) camera harness.
7 Sensor & Serial Port Connection for the sensor harness.

Installation
Security Cover
After connecting all needed cables to the rear of the HVR as shown in the wiring diagram (see page 5), snap the security cover into
place and secure it using the included security Torx screw.

Flat Mount
Secure the HVR to the surface with four (4) #10 machine screws with nyloc nuts, self-tapping screws, or rivets.
Ensure that the front panel of the NVR remains accessible and there is a minimum 2.5 inches of clearance for cables.
Do not install the NVR in an area of the vehicle cabin that could interfere with the safe operation of the vehicle.

Removing / Inserting the SD Card
WARNING: Do not remove the SD card until the NVR is turned off.
WARNING: Do not force the SD card into the slot upside down or backwards.
To remove the SD card from the NVR
1. Insert the key into the faceplate lock and turn it counter-clockwise.
2. Open the SD card slot door from the right edge.
3. Lightly push on the SD card until a “click” is felt, then allow it to spring out of the slot. The SD card partly ejects.
4. Pull the SD card straight out.
To reinsert the SD card into the NVR
NOTE: Ensure the SD card’s write protection slider is in the “unlocked” position.
NOTE: Use only SD cards obtained from Safety Vision.
1. Insert an SD card into the SD card slot label-side up, with the notch to the right, until it clicks in place.
2. Close and lock the SD card slot door.
