This document is the Hardware User Guide. It provides wiring, installation, and components
description.

Installation
The Observer 4120 is shipped with a base containing an
integrated cooling fan. Ensure the cooling fan power
cable is connected to the cooling fan power port.
Remove the Security Cover and open the faceplate as
described on the following page. Secure the 4120 to a
flat surface using appropriate fasteners.
NOTE: Ensure that the front panel of the HVR remains
accessible, there is a minimum 2.5 inches of clearance for
cables, and there is adequate space to provide air for the
cooling fan. Do not install the HVR in an area of the vehicle
cabin that could interfere with the safe operation of the
vehicle.
Security Cover
After connecting all needed cables to the rear of the DVR
as shown in the Main Wiring Diagram, secure the Security
Cover with the included screws as shown in the diagram.

Hard Drive Removal
To remove the hard drive from the HVR:
1. Ensure the HVR is powered off.
2. Insert the key into the faceplate lock and turn it
clockwise.
3. Open the faceplate latch on the right side of the
HVR.
4. Pull the hard drive firmly and straight out.
SD Card Removal/Insertion
The SD card can only be accessed when the faceplate is
open.
Do not force the SD card into the slot upside down or
backwards.
Ensure the SD card’s write protection slider is in the
“unlocked” position.
1. Open the SD card slot door from the left edge.
2. Insert an SD card into the SD card slot label-side up,
with the notch to the right, until it clicks in place.
To remove the SD card, press the SD card as far as it will
go in the slot, then allow it to “spring” out.
3. Close the SD card slot door.
To reinsert a hard drive:
1. Push the hard drive firmly all the way into the DVR.
2. Secure the faceplate latch.
3. Insert the key into the hard drive lock and turn it
counter-clockwise.

1 - Removable Hard Drive - The hard disk drive (HDD)
provides the main storage for recorded data.
2 - SD Card Slot - Insert an SD card into the slot until it
clicks. To remove the SD card, briefly press it in until
it ejects.
3 - USB Port - Insert a USB flash drive to download
events quickly without having to remove the SD
card or hard drive, can also upload firmware updates
and configuration files. A USB mouse may also be
attached to navigate menus in collaboration with an
external monitor.
4 - IR Receiver - Point the remote control at the IR
receiver to enter commands and change settings in the
configuration menus.
5 - Status LEDs - The Status LEDs illuminate to display the
current status of the HVR. See chart at right.
1 - Power Port - Connection for the UPS and main power
harness.
2 - Serial Port - Connection for the I/O hub and ALM
extender harness.
3 - Panel Port - Connection for the SV-CP4-HYB monitor.
4 - USB Port - Connection for optional USB accessories
including the Fireproof back-up data box.
5 - LAN 1 Port (RJ45) - Connection for optional network
accessories.
6 - LAN 2 Port (RJ45) - Connection for the POE Smart
Switch IP camera hub. The Smart Switch MUST be
connected to the LAN 2 port.
7 - AV Port(s) - Connections for the analog camera wiring
harnesses.
8 - Fan Power Port - Power connection for the fan
integrated into the base.
9 - GPS Antenna Port - Connection for the external
antenna to accompany the internal GPS module.
