Thedockisaportableexpansionmodulethatenablesyoutoeasilyconnectyournotebookcomputertothe

Ethernetandmultipledevices,suchasaDisplayPort

,DigitalVideoInterface(DVI),orVideoGraphicsArray

(VGA)monitor;aheadset/microphonecomboconnector;andUniversalSerialBus(USB)devices.Thedock

providesfourUSB3.0connectorsforhigherbandwidthandbetterperformance,andtwoUSB2.0connectors

forcommonUSBdevices.ThedockalsosupportsGigabitEthernetspeedwhenyouconnectittonetworks.

Thischapterprovidesinformationonhowtousethedock.

Whenthedockisreadyforuse,thedockiconisdisplayedinthetaskbar.Clickthedockicon,theThinkPad

OneLinkProDockwindowisdisplayed.Youcanﬁndthefollowingfourfunctionicons:

•ClicktheicontoopentheScreenResolutionwindow.Youcanchangetheappearanceofyour

displays.

•ClicktheicontoopentheSoundwindow.Youcanconﬁguretheaudiosettings.

•

ClicktheicontoopentheNetworkandSharingCenterwindow.Youcanviewyourbasicnetwork

informationandsetupconnections.

•ClicktheicontoopentheDevicesandPrinterswindow.Youcanaddorconﬁgureadeviceorprinter.

Youcanconnectdevicestotheappropriateconnectorsonthedockwhileyournotebookcomputeristurned

on.Normallyitwilltakeseveralsecondsforthenotebookcomputertorecognizenewdevices.

Usingtheheadset/microphonecomboconnector

Theheadset/microphonecomboconnectoronthedockisa3.5mmheadsetandmicrophonecombined

connector.Itonlyworksforthestandard3.5mmheadset,microphone,orspeaker.

Tousetheheadset/microphonecomboconnectoronthedock,connectyourheadset,microphone,or

speakertotheheadset/microphonecomboconnectoronthedock.

Notes:Theheadset,microphone,orspeakerconnectedtotheheadset/microphonecomboconnectoron

thedockisautomaticallyenabledafterthedockissuccessfullyconnectedandrecognizedbyyournotebook

computer.However,ifyoucannothearanythingfromyourdevice,dothefollowing:

Tochargeadevice,connectthedevicetotheUSB3.0connectorwithbatterychargingfunctiononthe

dockusingaUSBcable.

•MostdevicescanbechargedbytheUSB3.0connectorwithbatterychargingfunction,butsomedevices

UsingtheUSBconnectors

TousetheUSBconnectors,connectaUSBdevicetoanyofthefourUSBconnectorsonthedockwitha

USBcable.

WhentheUSBdeviceiscorrectlyconnectedtoaUSBconnectoronthedock,aninformationwindowwill

bedisplayedintheWindowsnotiﬁcationarea,indicatingthattheUSBdevicehasbeenconnectedtothe

computer.

UsingtheGigabitEthernetconnector

TousetheGigabitEthernetconnectoronthedock,connectthedocktoanetworkusinganEthernetcable,

andwaituntilthedockisfullyconﬁguredbytheWindowsoperatingsystem.

Note:TheGigabitEthernetconnectoronthedockfullysupportstheThinkVantage

AccessConnections™

program.

UsingtheDisplayPortandDVI-Iconnectors

TousetheDisplayPortconnector,connectanexternalDisplayPortmonitortothedockusingaDisplayPort

cable.TousetheDVI-Iconnector,connectanexternalDVI-ImonitortothedockusingaDVI-Icable.You

alsocanconnectanexternalVGAmonitortotheDVI-IconnectorthroughaDVI-ItoVGAadapter.

Note:Forbetterperformance,occasionallyadjusttheexternalmonitortorealignitssettingswiththevideo

outputofthedock.Formoreinformationabouttheadjustmentprocedure,refertothedocumentation

Thischapterprovidesinformationaboutthevideooutputfunctionofthedockandinstructionsonhowto

conﬁgurethedocktoyourneeds.

Understandingthevideooutputmodes

Thedockworksinthefollowingthreevideooutputmodes:

•Extendmode

Whenthedockisinextendmode,itsplitsyourdisplayacrosstwomonitors.Yournotebookcomputer

monitorbecomestheprimarydisplayandtheexternalmonitorbecomesthesecondarydisplay.By

default,theexternalmonitordisplayisontherightsideofthenotebookcomputermonitordisplay.

Inextendmode,youcandraganddropwindowsfromonedisplaytotheother.Also,youcanincrease

yourproductivitybydoingthefollowing:

–Readinge-mailsononedisplayandopeningtheattachmentsontheother

–Expandingaspreadsheetacrosstwodisplays

–Increasingyourworkareabyputtingallthepaletteandtoolbarsontheotherdisplaywhenyouare

doinggraphicsediting

–Keepingthedesktopononedisplayandwatchingvideosontheother

•Mirrormode

Whenthedockisinmirrormode,itclonesyournotebookcomputerscreentotheexternalmonitor.The

dockautomaticallyselectsthesettings(screenresolution,colorquality,andrefreshrate)fortheexternal

monitor,whichwillenablethebestresolutionbasedonyournotebookcomputer.

•Single-displaymode

Whenthedockisinsingle-displaymode,itenablesyoutoshowyourdesktopononlyonescreen.

Rotatingtheexternalmonitordisplay
