Thischapterprovidesinformationonhowtousetheheadsetandmicrophonecomboconnector,Gigabit
Ethernetconnector,DVI-Ivideooutputconnector,andUSBconnectorsonthedock.
Youcanconnectdevicestotheappropriateconnectorsonthedockwhileyournotebookcomputeris
started.Normallyitwilltakeseveralsecondsforthenotebookcomputertorecognizenewdevices.
Usingtheheadsetandmicrophonecomboconnector
Theheadsetandmicrophonecomboconnectoronthedockisa3.5-mmmicrophonecombinedstereo
line-outconnector.Itonlyworksforthestandard3.5-mmheadsetormicrophone.
Tousetheheadsetandmicrophonecomboconnectoronthedock,rmlyinsertyourheadset,microphone,
orspeakerintotheheadsetandmicrophonecomboconnector.
Note:Theheadsetandmicrophonecomboconnectoronthedockisautomaticallyenabledwhenyouhave
successfullyconnectedthedocktoyournotebookcomputerandinstalledthedevicedriver.However,ifyou
cannothearanythingfromtheheadsetconnectedtotheheadsetandmicrophonecomboconnectoronthe
dock,youcanmanuallyenabletheheadsetandmicrophonecomboconnectoronthedock.See“Manually

TousetheGigabitEthernetconnectoronthedock,connectthedocktostandard10Mbps,100Mbps,or

TheGigabitEthernetconnectiononthedockfullysupportstheThinkVantage
®
AccessConnections
TM
program.
UsingtheUSBconnectors
TousetheUSBconnectors,connectaUSBdevicetoanyofthefourUSBconnectorsonthedockwitha
USBcable.
WhentheUSBdeviceiscorrectlyconnectedtoaUSBconnectoronthedock,aninformationwindowwill
bedisplayedintheWindowsnoticationarea,indicatingthattheUSBdevicehasbeenconnectedtothe
computer.
UsingtheDVI-Ivideooutputconnector
YoucanconnectoneexternalmonitortothedockbyusingtheDVI-Ivideooutputconnector.Youdonot
havetodisconnectthedockfromyournotebookcomputereachtimewhenyouconnecttheexternal
monitortotheDVI-Ivideooutputconnector.
TousetheDVI-Ivideooutputconnector,connecttheDVIcableoftheexternalmonitortotheDVI-Ivideo
outputconnectoronthedock.
YoualsocanconnectanexternalmonitorwithaVGAconnectortothedockbyusingaDVI-ItoVGAadapter.

Whenthedockisinextendmode,itsplitsyourdisplayacrosstwomonitors.
Therearethreeoptionswhenyouareusingextendmode:
Extend:Whenyouselectthisoption,yournotebookcomputermonitorbecomestheprimarydisplayand
theexternalmonitorbecomesthesecondarydisplay.Bydefault,theexternalmonitordisplayisonthe
rightsideofthenotebookcomputermonitordisplay.
ExtendTo:Whenyouselectthisoption,yournotebookcomputermonitorbecomestheprimarydisplay
andtheexternalmonitorbecomesthesecondarydisplay.Youcangivethemonitoritsownframebuffer
throughthesubmenuoptionsRight,Left,Above,andBeloworthroughdragoperations.Thedisplay
spaceisacontinuousarea;therefore,windowsandobjectscanbemovedbetweendifferentdisplays.

Thedockenablesyoutoselectatargetcolorqualityfortheexternalmonitordisplay.Theavailableoptions
are16-bitor32-bit.Bitmeansthecolordepthofthedisplay.Thedefaultandrecommendedsettingis32-bit.
Tosetthecolorqualityoftheexternalmonitor,dothefollowing:
