Thedockisaportableexpansionmodulethatenablesyoutoeasilyconnectyournotebookcomputertothe
Ethernetandmultipledevices,suchasaHighDenitionMultimediaInterface(HDMI)monitororprojector,a
headsetandmicrophonecombojack,andUniversalSerialBus(USB)devices.ItprovidestwoUSB3.0
connectorsforhigherbandwidthandbetterperformance,andtwoUSB2.0connectorsforcommonUSB
devices.ThedockalsosupportsGigabitEthernetspeedwhenyouconnectittonetworks.
YoucansetupyourworkareabyconnectingyournotebookcomputertothedockwiththeOneLinkcable,

Thischapterprovidesinformationaboutusingtheheadsetandmicrophonecombojack,USBconnectors,
GigabitEthernetconnector,andHDMIconnectoronthedock.
Youcanconnectdevicestotheappropriateconnectorsonthedockwhileyournotebookcomputeristurned
on.Normallyitwilltakeseveralsecondsforthenotebookcomputertorecognizenewdevices.
Usingtheheadsetandmicrophonecombojack
Theheadsetandmicrophonecombojackonthedockisa3.5mmheadsetandmicrophonecombinedjack.
Itonlyworksforthestandard3.5mmheadset,microphone,orspeaker.
Tousetheheadsetandmicrophonecombojackonthedock,connectyourheadset,microphone,orspeaker
totheheadsetandmicrophonecombojackonthedock.
Notes:Theheadset,microphone,orspeakerconnectedtotheheadsetandmicrophonecombojackonthe
dockisautomaticallyenabledafterthedockissuccessfullyconnectedandrecognizedbyyournotebook
computer.However,ifyoucannothearanythingfromyourdevice,dothefollowing:

Tochargeadevice,connectthedevicetotheUSB3.0connectorwithbatterychargingfunctiononthe
dockusingaUSBcable.
Notes:
MostdevicescanbechargedbytheUSB3.0connectorwithbatterychargingfunction,butsomedevices
withspecialcongurationmightnotbecharged.
Thechargingtimevariesdependingonthedevicecongurationandtheenvironment.
UsingtheUSBconnectors
TousetheUSBconnectors,connectaUSBdevicetoanyofthefourUSBconnectorsonthedockwitha
USBcable.
WhentheUSBdeviceiscorrectlyconnectedtoaUSBconnectoronthedock,aninformationwindowwill
bedisplayedintheWindowsnoticationarea,indicatingthattheUSBdevicehasbeenconnectedtothe
computer.

TousetheGigabitEthernetconnectoronthedock,connectthedocktoanetworkusinganEthernetcable,
andwaituntilthedockisfullyconguredbytheWindowsoperatingsystem.

AccessConnections
program.
UsingtheHDMIconnector
ThevideooutputconnectoronthedockisastandardHDMIconnector.TousetheHDMIconnector,connect
anexternalHDMImonitortothedockusinganHDMIcable.Youalsocanconnectanexternalmonitorwitha
VGAconnectortothedockusingtheHDMI-to-VGAadapterthatcomeswiththedock.
Youcanadjustvideosettingstocustomizetheuseofthedock.Formoreinformation,seeChapter4
“Workingwiththedock”onpage9.
Note:Forbetterperformance,occasionallyadjusttheexternalmonitortorealignitssettingswiththevideo

Thischapterprovidesinformationaboutthevideooutputfunctionofthedockandinstructionsonhowto
congurethedocktoyourneeds.
Understandingthevideooutputmodes
Thedockworksinthefollowingthreevideooutputmodes:
Extendmode
Whenthedockisinextendmode,itsplitsyourdisplayacrosstwomonitors.Yournotebookcomputer
monitorbecomestheprimarydisplayandtheexternalmonitorbecomesthesecondarydisplay.By
default,theexternalmonitordisplayisontherightsideofthenotebookcomputermonitordisplay.
Inextendmode,youcandraganddropwindowsfromonedisplaytotheother.Also,youcanincrease
yourproductivitybydoingthefollowing:
Readinge-mailsononedisplayandopeningtheattachmentsontheother
Expandingaspreadsheetacrosstwodisplays
Increasingyourworkareabyputtingallthepaletteandtoolbarsontheotherdisplaywhenyouare
doinggraphicsediting
Keepingthedesktopononedisplayandwatchingvideosontheother
Mirrormode
Whenthedockisinmirrormode,itclonesyournotebookcomputerscreentotheexternalmonitor.The
dockautomaticallyselectsthesettings(screenresolution,colorquality,andrefreshrate)fortheexternal
monitor,whichwillenablethebestresolutionbasedonyournotebookcomputer.
Single-displaymode
Whenthedockisinsingle-displaymode,itenablesyoutoshowyourdesktopononlyonescreen.

Thepowerindicatorofthedockisnoton.
Ensurethatyouhavecorrectlyconnectedthepowersupplytothedockandaworkingelectricaloutlet.Do
notuseanypowersupplyotherthantheoneprovidedwithyournotebookcomputer.
Iconnectthedocktomynotebookcomputer,butthedockdoesnotwork.
Tosolvetheproblem,dothefollowing:
1.Ensurethatthepoweradapteriscorrectlyconnectedtothepowerconnectoronthedockandthe
dockiswellpoweredbyanacpowersource.
2.Ensurethatthedevicedriverofthedockiscorrectlyinstalled.Ifnot,installthelatestdevicedriverby

1.Ensurethatthedevicedriverofthedockiscorrectlyinstalled.Ifnot,installthelatestdevicedriverby
followingtheinstructionsontheWebsiteat:

2.Enablethebuilt-inaudioconnectorsonyournotebookcomputerbydoingthefollowing:
a.Right-clickthespeakericonintheWindowsnoticationarea.
b.SelectSounds,andtheSoundwindowisdisplayed.
c.ClickthePlaybacktabtoselectabuilt-inaudiodevice,andthenclicktheRecordingtabtoselect
anotherbuilt-inaudiodevice.
Notes:
Toapplythenewsettings,restarttheapplicationsthatareusingtheaudiodevices.
Thesettingsyouhaveadjustedwillbesaveduntilyouchangethesettingsthenexttime.
ThedockcannotconnecttotheInternet.
