This stage of the assembly is complete.
Store the rear wing in a safe place where
it won’t be damaged, with the rear wing
stays facing up.
Insert the stay’s pins into the holes in
the wing.
54
Hold the right rear wing stay and the rear
wing as shown. Align the projections on the
stay with the circled holes in the rear wing.
Legend has it that the design of
the Countachs distinctive
V-shaped rear wing (or spoiler)
was inspired by that of a
powerboat. Initially available as an
optional extra for the LP 400S in
1978, the original version of the
wing was xed, but later models
had adjustable wings, a feature
that is represented on your model.

STAGE COMPLETE
If it is dicult to push the stay into the
rear wing, place the rear wing on a at
surface, preferably covered with a
cloth, then push the stay down into it.
However, be careful not to apply too
much pressure when using this
method as it can damage the parts.

Lamborghini Countach LP 500S
The black radiator vents of the
LP500S’s longitudinal rear engine –
the initials ‘LP stand for the Italian
Longitudinale Posteriore – can be seen
clearly from this angle. The factory
name of Lamborghini’s original
prototype was simply LP 500, but the
title Countach – an untranslatable
Piedmontese expression of approval
for a beautiful woman – was given to
the model after legendary car
designer Nuccio Bertone said it
when he rst saw the new machine
in the early 1970s.

After removing the inner sponge, squeeze
the tyre a few times in your hands.
2
Brush the entire surface of the tyre with an
old toothbrush. This will remove any debris
left over from the moulding process.
4
Insert the inner sponge back into the tyre.
3
Remove the inner sponge from the rear
tyre. Be careful not to damage the sponge.

Push the wheel further into the tyre, being careful not to
damage either part.
Insert the rear wheel provided with Stage 01 into one side
of the tyre.

Your model replicates the exact design
of the Campagnolo wheels and Pirelli P7
tyres used by Walter Wolfs LP 500S. The
P7s had a very low (50 per cent) prole
– the ratio of sidewall height to tread
width – that oered signicantly
increased grip, especially when cornering
at high speed. The low prole of the
tyres also improved the LP500S’s top
speed. The proportions and style of the
LP500S’s wheels and tyres are accurately
reproduced on your model.

This stage is complete. Keep the wheel in a
plastic bag with the stage number written on it.
When the tyre is on the
wheel, hold the assembly
between your hands and
roll it back and forth to
ensure that the tyre walls
are fully seated in the rim.
9
Storage box
Throughout this series, you will receive many parts that won’t be
used immediately or that are sub-assemblies, such as the rear wheel
assembled in this stage. It is recommended that you use a storage
box, like the one shown here, to keep all of the parts safely and make
them easily accessible when needed.
Toolboxes are a good
example of the type of box
to use, as they have a lot of
storage space and separate
compartments in which to
organise the parts.
A small box with many
partitions, like the one shown
on the right, is ideal for
storing smaller parts, such as
screws and washers.
Store the parts from this stage
and Stage 01. Use tissue to
cushion any larger or fragile
parts, such as the bonnet.

Walter Wolfs exclusively built
Countach LP 500S was based on
Lamborghini’s earlier LP 500, the rst
working prototype of which was
released in 1971. Wolf reinstated the
prototypes powerful 5-litre engine
(the engines of Lamborghini’s
production models had been reduced
to 4 litres) and upgraded the wheels
to take racing-spec Pirelli P7 tyres.

Use side cutters to remove the 16 bolts A and
two bolts B. Each of the parts is moulded
onto a sprue with a thin section called a gate’.
Place the cutters sharp inner edges into this
gate to remove each part. To prevent the
parts dropping o and getting lost, place a
strip of masking tape along the side of the
sprue and parts, as shown.
3
When you have all the parts separated from
the sprue, keep them safely until you need
them – preferably in a compartmentalised
storage box, like the one in the photo.
2
The rst step is to identify the camshaft
covers bolts A and B, so you know which is
which before you begin the assembly.
Bolts A have shorter bodies than bolts B, as
shown by the enlarged inset photo.

Take the camshaft covers TL and TR
retained from Stage 02, and remove the
gasket strip attached to the back of each
one. Do this carefully to avoid damaging
the covers, and put them both safely to
one side as you will be needing them again
when you get to Step 10.

Lamborghini Countach LP 500S
The camshaft covers serve a vital role in
keeping the engines moving parts sealed
when in use, and are reproduced in your
model down to the smallest detail, such
as the silver bolts tted in this stage.
Camshaft covers
In Focus
Pick up the rst bolt A with the angled
tweezers, the jaws wrapped with some
masking tape or even double-sided tape for a
safer hold. Make sure the longer side of the
part, with the mounting pin (inset photo), is
facing outwards from the tweezers.
6
Place the bolt A into the indicated hole in the
camshaft cover TL, making sure that you have
the part orientated as shown in the inset
photo in Step 5.
5
When all the bolts A are in place, reseal both
camshaft covers with the gasket strips that
you removed in Step 4. Note the orientation of
the parts, as shown above – the circled hollow
mounting pins should t neatly into the
gaskets’ holes without needing to be forced.
Repeat Steps 5-8 to t all 16 bolts A into the
holes on the TL and TR camshaft covers,
circled in blue above. Leave the holes circled
in red empty for now.
Use a rm but not hard object to push the
bolt rmly into its hole (the end of a wooden
pencil would be suitable – do not use hard
plastic or metal for this).

8
Press the bolt further into the hole with
your nger or thumb, but be careful not to
scrape any of the silver paint from the part.
7
Mounting

11
Lamborghini Countach LP 500S
Hold the camshaft cover TR in between your
ngers and thumb, and lower it onto the
right-hand side of the cylinder head. Make
sure that the orientation of the parts is the
same as that shown in the photo.
11
Repeat Step 12 to t the camshaft cover TL
into the holes opposite the one tted in
Step 11.
15
Press the camshaft cover into place, so that
the hollow pins t into the holes in the
cylinder head (see the red arrows in Step 11
and the photo above).
12
As you did for the camshaft cover TR, press
the part into place so that its hollow
mounting pins are visible from the underside.
16
Holding the parts in place, turn the assembly
over. You will see the hollow pin sitting in the
hole in the cylinder head’s underside. Insert
one of the 2.3 x 6mm self-tapping screws into
this hole, and tighten it carefully with a
Phillips screwdriver.
13
Take two more 2.3 x 6mm self-tapping screws
and tighten them into the mounting pins to
secure the camshaft cover.
This stage is complete, so store all your parts
away safely until next time.
17
Repeat this for the second hollow pin
to secure the camshaft cover TR to the
cylinder head.
14
Again, check the
orientation against
the photo
STAGE COMPLETE
12
Lamborghini Countach LP 500S
To improve weight distribution and make
better use of the available space, the
Countach’s massive 5-litre longitudinal
engine is mounted facing the opposite way
to what you might expect – the gearbox is
positioned ahead of the engine, in between
the driver’s and passenger’s seats. A short
driveshaft runs from the gearbox to the nal
drive unit at the rear of the engine block, via
a sealed tube within the sump.
